UNPLUGGED: The Bad System of Altar Calls

I was this every Sunday altar call goer. Not anymore because now i understand the sheer foolishness of my actions.

The thing that always got me was that in my childhood church, was that the elders in my family thought that Communion was a big deal in that they MADE us go to altar kneel and take it when it was the children's turn.

I left as well when my husband was sick, we were sick and shut in. Once he passed I joined Koinonia Christian Center on line.. those of us not in that area, we belonged to the E-church. So I listen to sermons from there and also from Sir Walter Jones. I hear other sermons as well, all of these online services are teaching services.

I didn't wanted to say what's Church because I don't want to feel like I bashing the Church and I grew up with these peoples so I respect them. I love and enjoy Mr SWJ Show and been learning more better.

Thank you for covering this much needed subject. I rarely participate in a altar call. unless I feel the need. God hears me whenever I speak to Him and knows exactly what I'm going through. I don't feel the need to expose myself publicly.

From my years of being in holiness churches, the most effective altar call was one on one with an altar worker as opposed to a mass “repeat the sinners prayer”. And yes, follow up is a must.

F/up yes! Not just phone. Invite public meeting at library, church, coffee, shopping etc. build a consistent relationship/discipleship. Hard to do in masses. Just sayin🙏🏾

@@angelamartin2336 Great idea! May be easier said than done. Sometimes I question if it’s an ego thing to see 20+ people at the altar saying they want to be saved. Is it really about discipleship??

In my experience, the altar call only seemed to work with guys who came out the street life who had no church background whatsoever, who were invited or wandered into church. I have several friends who testified to me as such.

What should the term be called to invite folk for intercessory prayer,laying on of hands to receive the baptismy if the Holy spitit and healing, You are correct, to have a deliverance ministry requires that you live a consecrated life and totally surrendered. It still needs to be done because Jesus has given us the power to do JUST WHAT HE DID.

The alter call in the Old testament was written our LEARNING. Not for us to practice! Romans chapter 15 verse 4. There is no such altar called in the body of Christ. Today if you would hear his voice harden not your heart! Hebrews chapter 3 verse 15. I am a man that is without EXCUSE.
