Great video. As a male I've always considered it weird how much fuzz many others (men as well as women) make about shaving their body hair. A certain degree of body hair is what makes part of the difference between being a kid or an adult person. That's simply it. And, looking at the topic from a very personal perspective: as a male I feel attracted by women, *not* by little girls. Simple as that. So women out there: by proud of your body hair, whether you shave it or not, whether you show it or not.

I have not shaved in about two years and the longer this time goes by the more absurd the idea of shaving gets. It was a challenge to stop because, like you, I started as soon as I started developing body hair and the process of going from shaven to not shaven is a bit uncomfortable. You have to wait for your stubble to grow out and then soften. But once I got over that hump I don't notice my body hair at all (except when the breeze goes through my leg hair, I love that feeling). People are very silly when they are confronted with something they aren't used to but like you I have not had anyone (in real life) ever comment on my body hair except to compliment it because I think secretly, a lot of women want to stop but that deep seated insecurity around it is very strong. I do still feel insecure but it slowly fades a little more with each passing day and that has actually benefited immensely on a psychological level. So thanks for the video! Solidarity Sister!!

I also started shaving as puberty hit. And continued till my early 20s. In college, i wrote a paper about arm pit hair, and I needed to question a lot of men. The majority of the answers were things like, she looks pre-pubesent or younger, and I was sickened over this and stopped shaving everything. I wanted to weed out those men who were secretly looking for a childlike girl and wanted to date men looking for a woman. It worked like a charm. The shallow men faded out of my life. I realized most men's products were ONLY deodorant...while most women's products (actually, all of them that I can find in a typical store), were BOTH deodorant and antiperspirant...and it is the antiperspirant which can possibly be bad for your health. So...not only can men have body hair without judgement, but they are allowed to sweat and SHOW IT, as long as they don't smell bad...but women aren't even allowed to show that they sweat. This video means so much to me, Eva. Now I know I no longer alone in this situation. The whole burden of removing bodily hair has haunted most of my life growing up. I used to hate myself so much for being more hairy than other girls (actually, that contributed to me hating my whole being as a female). I only wore long trousers or shirts with long sleeves all seasons despite living in tropical area. Always stayed alert about my arm movements to avoid accidentally revealing my "dirty" part. Friends made fun of it, family kept reminding about maintaining a girly image so as not to offend anyone. I spend hours plucking all the hair out, which, you know, was not really a comfortable process, and I had to keep doing that every two weeks since the growing hair was so itchy (not to mention to in-grown hair). My relatives, out of worry for my lack of womanhood (they had good intention), pressured me to undergo a laser removal that was unimaginably expensive yet ineffective. At some point, I had enough of this cumbersome crap and just let my hair grow back again. To be honest, it just feels so natural and I think I will keep it that way from now on, although there will be someone who loves to mock this decision of mine and deem me unworthy of a woman (unhygienic, lazy, monkey-alike and whatever mean stuffs they can come up with). I don't have any agenda of being a radical role model or else, I just want to live my life and stay true to myself. But every now and then, these unreasonable social pressures can get a better of you and make you feel so isolated. The pressure of having my hair removed is still there, but now I know what is best for my body and never let that sways me into conforming to nonsense any more.

My only issue was with women with hairy legs that wore sheer hosiery, but I got used to it. As I started having sexual relationships, the smell of a hairy armpit drove me crazy. Must have been the pheromones!!! Nowadays when I see a woman in public with hairy armpits, I see someone that is confidant and sure about herself. Shaving is just no fun, regardless of gender. Eva sounds like she has more important issues to deal with. I'm not sure why anyone finds the need to comment on any other person's appearance. This is something I definitely reassessed during the pandemic. I realized how many chemicals I was putting on my skin and how much my skin was getting damaged and getting ingrown hairs and such and my sensitive skin was just not happy. I switched to more natural products, cut out the chemicals and cut way back on shaving. I just give my skin a break until it starts to bother me. Such a better balance for me... plus a huge time saver.

Body hair is actually on our bodies to help prevent bacteria from getting into those areas. It is a natural protective mechanism to prevent infections.

also, i noticed hairy people who shower and smell better than some shaved people i encountered. bodily odor is more a consequence of health problems than hair. their hypocrisy is obvious, why they would not allow women to be bald or men to have long hair? sociocultural complexes and stereotypes, sometimes even superstitions. centuries in the past females were hairy and men especially with their beards. if hair was the cause of bad smell then why pets or animals covered with more hair never smell worse somehow? sweat smells differently for each person and hair is not what causes it, with or without hair sweat remains on skin or clothing and that smell persists regardless

In the winter I take extended breaks from shaving. It's very freeing. I've been swimming at an indoor pool to train for a race and decided not to trim down there. I was shocked by the amount of thought that went into whether or not I should trim my bikini line before going to swim laps. You're right, hair just needs to be normalized to the point where we don't spend so much mental energy on it as a society. There are much better uses of our time. Thank you for making this video! Can you do one on makeup? I hate makeup so much. Why as women are we pressured to paint our faces to be accepted?

Exactly! What a waste of time and money to shave and apply makeup! Women should not be coerced to slather dangerous chemicals on their skin. I moved from Los Angeles area to Northern California foothills in 2008, and I'm so glad that most women in my area don't wear makeup - and they are beautiful. What a relief to live more simply and use my energy and time on important things. I love watching Eva because she is so natural and beautiful and REAL - such an inspiration!

Just like how many women aren't into short or skinny or fat guys. Or guys with with long beards or piercings or lots of tattoos. Or who are massively balding, but dont feel like shaving it all off. If it's ok to not date those guys, it's ok for guys to not date 'natural women'. Since people can't change what we are attracted and unattracted to.

Haven't shaved for years and im way more comfortable for it. I have really sensitive skin and no matter which razor or shaving products I used, I always ended up with sore pits and waxing wasnt working for me either. So I stopped. Best decision ever. I couldn't give a monkeys what other folk think and I'd tell them so if they commented negatively! I've always disagreed with the saying 'Beauty is only skin deep' because to me, true beauty comes from within. I first had my unibrow plucked when my mom dragged me along to a "beauty specialist". Since then, I plucked my unibrow because of social pressure. But actually, I always loved my unibrow. Half a year ago I transitioned to cutting my unibrow instead of plucking it so the hairs would normalize and recently I stopped cutting it! I still groom it though. I am so happy, because I find my unibrow super beautiful. It is part of me :) I actually also find armpit hair really beautiful, your video gave me the idea to really stop shaving it instead of shaving it now and then :) Unfortunately my leg hair will never be beautiful again after years of epilating, so I will have to keep shaving that :(. If you have beautiful leg hair and maybe want to regrow it some time, don't epilate!

I’m with you, Sister!! Not shaving my armpits has been so liberating!! That and allowing my belly to be soft and comfortable instead of intentionally sucking it in and/or squeezing it into tight pants. Getting to a point where you realize “these rules on how to be a woman suck and I’m not f*cking doing it anymore” is the most powerful feeling
@celinefuchs4095 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this video! I’m sorry for those who sent such negative comments. Last year I went on a camping trip, and I remember one of the girls on the trip really wanting to shave, because, if I correctly picked up on the context, I think she felt very uncomfortable for not having shaved in a while, and I remember just feeling sad that she felt like she needed to shave. Me, at that time, I couldn’t care less. I always disliked shaving because it took so long and I almost always cut myself. It seemed less hassle to just leave it. I did like the feeling of smooth skin, but I didn’t like that feeling of needing to shave anytime a stubble showed up. A random carpool conversation my freshman year in high school normalized not shaving, at least in winter, and I started doing that, thinking I could get away with it and not have people notice. And I mostly did. When I learned about the Gillette marketing scheme a few years back, I felt like I finally had the reason I needed to not shave just because I felt like it, and to only shave when I wanted to. (Which, to be clear, sometimes I do want to, I like the look and the feel, just not enough to do it all the freakin time.) And that has been mostly my mentality since. I think I do still feel some social discomfort if I don’t shave in summer, particularly armpit hair, and I’m living in a new (to me) culture right now where body hair isn’t as prevalent to begin with, but also tank tops are not as common over here, so we’ll see what my shaving situation looks like come the warmer months 😅

I'm not sure that "society" is to blame. There's a financial incentive at play that is shaping the views of much of society. Pornography is big business, and pornographers will do what they think will sell their product most profitably. Since they are selling sexual fantasy, they cater to the fantasies of their customers. Many of those customers still have a fascination with their first sexual partners, back when they and their partners were still children. So porn caters to their childish fantasies by presenting them with shaven women. Maybe it's because I never had sexual experiences with pre-pubescent women, but I don't find shaven bodies attractive. I find most pornography gross: it feels like it is encouraging child sex predators to believe their thoughts are acceptable.

Nicely done Eva! You touched a nerve there...LOL For me, I don't care if a woman shaves of not. None of my business unless we're a couple...and then, I'd still leave it to her, as it's her body and her choice. Would it bother me? Nope. I've dated women who didn't shave their legs/armpits. They were just as beautiful to me as those I've dated who did shave. So I say, if it works for you, do it! If it matters to someone you love...certainly talk with them, but in the end, it's your/their body....the decision stays with you/them. I have a hard enough time dealing with my own hair...haha.
@erikstorm8935 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely agreed, its their body. But, with that said, I can understand if someone doesn't find it physically attractive and chooses not to date them. And I'm not talking about breaking up after being a serious couple already. But during the early dating period, or before going out at all. Basically - physical attraction matters. Just like how it's ok for women to not date short guys, skinny guys, fat guys, dudes with long beards, etc. Or even guys who aren't very physically fit (the 'gym bros'). Everyone has their own standards, as high as it may be. A lot of those 'natural' women probably wouldn't date a guy shorter than them or too skinny or too thick. And that should be absolutely respected. We can't change what we are attracted...and unattracted to.

I stopped caring what other people think of me in my late 20s (30 years ago). If you’re relying on others to help make you happy then you’ll likely never be truly happy. Spend your teens and early 20s finding out who you are and follow that inner compass. I tend to gravitate toward others who don’t care what people think about them. A woman with hairy pits or no makeup is obviously such a person. That pulls me in, not turns me away. You definitely follow your compass, and I like where it’s pointing. That’s the number one reason why I subscribed. You said recently that you’ll be taking a break. I’ll be here when you get back. Enjoy!

Me too, when really thinking about the social norms on women vs male body, in this case body hair, I cant actually believe the excpectation that women are expected to be hairless, which is unnatural and so ridiculous. This is quite unbelivable honestly that there are people out there commenting on womens body hair. In my teenage years when I saw women with normal body hair on their legs and armpits, I was so astonished and really wanted to have their courage because I was too afraid of what people think. After long winter is Estonia, I still did razor my legs because I just get too distracted and wanting to pick these out when I see my legs. I resonate with you a whole bunch Eva!

I absolutely agree with everything you said. Over lockdown I let my hair grow out and had that realisation that I was only ever shaving because I thought that’s what I “had to do” and actually we’re all essentially ‘brainwashed’ into doing something that, most of the time, we’re not really conscious of. I’ll never forget one day, I had a sleeveless top on and my dad sat at the table with me, and I decided that I would just shed light on my armpit hair because he was bound to notice it. Initially he looked taken a back but I had a feeling he wouldn’t really know what to say. Turns out, later that day he kept going on to my sister how I was “letting myself go” and making it very clear he was put off by it. It was hurtful to hear but I just remind myself that MEN have body hair ANYWHERE IT GROWS and it is of no mind to anyone, so women SHOULD HE EXACTLY THE SAME. Hair grows on our heads so it should be allowed to exist on our bodies too!!

I had a similar upper lip hair incident when I was a pre-teen. An aunt pointed it out to me in disgust. It really hurt me because I had not realised that it was something awful to have. I was so ashamed. Now in my early forties I shave it off whenever I remember to do it. I don't pay much attention to it. I don't pluck my eyebrows and I don't wear makeup. Now I have decided to stop colouring my hair. I'm in the process of going gray. Gray hair is also a taboo on this day and age. People compliment me on my face skin, maybe it looks healthy because I don't apply any toxic products on it. Who knows. Maybe it's a vegan diet full of antioxidants. 10 years ago I bought an epilator and I shave my legs and armpits with it whenever I remember to do it. In winter I don't shave my legs at all. I will try to grow out my armpit hair it sounds interesting and natural. Maybe we are meant to have hair there for a reason. The hair in the privates is meant to be there to protect you against infections. So why remove it? I don't do it. We live so far away from the natural world... We have lost contact with what is true and real.

Eva, I've watched a LOT of your videos and I never noticed this "issue" so the only reason I did is because you brought it up. I have to laugh at the women who MUST shave and lather their faces with goop in the name of beauty. If you think about it, doing that DOES NOT encourage them to feel good about themselves. So basically what the beauty industry is doing is shaming women and telling them they are ugly and to be beautiful they have to be fake. I had a christian friend who used to wear lots of it but after talking to me and being encouraged she lightened up and even went without. Her confidence increased as well as her self estem. Another example is from highschool. I had a classmate who was drop dead gorgeous or so I thought then I saw her sands makeup and Im not lying, I thought she was someone else! The thing that bugged me was she was naturally very good looking but I guess because of society's pressure she had to wear make-up. Such a shame. Ladies, if people dont accept you for you then they arent worth your time or friendship. Take that to the bank! If God wanted women without armpit hair He would have made them not have it. To shave under the arms is therefore NOT NATURAL. Besides when the arms are down which Im guessing is roughly 90% of the time no one notices anyway.

"If God wanted women without armpit hair He would have made them not have it. To shave under the arms is therefore NOT NATURAL." That's not a valid argument. If God didn't want people to die in horrible ways, he wouldn't allow it right? Hmm ... Strange reasoning. Fiction. "Besides when the arms are down which Im guessing is roughly 90% of the time no one notices anyway." True. But when somebody does, he or she is not the abnormal one. Woman with gigantic armpit hair is really unattractive. 90 percent of guys will think that. They won't say it in your face, that's all.

@@SalmonFume What a weird thing to write... and why wouldn't God want people to die in horrible ways anyway? Has God talked to you? lol Forget about God now, let's put it this way: "If it wasn't natural for women to have armpit hair, then they wouldn't grow hair there". Done.

You approached this issue so well. Sorry you've been bullied for simply growing your body hair. My adult daughter has never shaved, and doesn't give a crap about anyone's opinion. It's not unhygienic if we bathe regularly. It's all good. I have to shave my lower legs or they get unbearably itchy, but I might see if I can push past the initial itchiness of.growing out my pits. You're an inspiration.

I am 72 and havn't shaved for 30 years. At first my kids said ( Mum You don't shave your legs) but over the years the hair has gone blond and not very noticable and now no one says a thing. I am a modern Grandma and love sleeveless dresses and because it has been so many years the hair is bearly noticeable not like when you shave every couple of days to keep smooth legs or smooth armpits. To me it was just a waste of time and I have better things to do. My husband was all okay with it. The best thing is to never start as it just makes the hair grow darker. I do feel sorry for the young girls today who start and have all those years ahead of them shaving.

thank you Eva for this video. I shave like most women. And like you I still remember when I shaved for the first time because of the pressure from outside. It's terrible, I already had 4 ingrown hairs in my bikini area (intimate area) which I had to surgically remove because there were large painful abscesses. A lot shaved hair also usually grow into my skin (also on the legs), which is very painful. Then i did a laser treatment (expensive) and they burned the entire skin in my intimate area. It was horrible and again very painful. I hate that we women have to do this just because of advertising, fashion or custom. You can be proud of yourself because you just have the courage to don't shave it! ultimately every hair on us is natural and normal. it's disgusting that you get so much bad attention to your armpit hair in the comments on yt. All the best, you brave Eva. It was nice to see the hairy lovely Vilk again ❣

Ahh I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through all that pain! Sounds awful. And indeed we do many things in the name of beauty that don't make much logical sense (myself included). As long as we're aware of the context and all the triggers that lead us towards certain choices, I think that makes a huge difference already!

@@UnpluggedEva thanks for your answer and you are so right. once we realize why we are doing such nonsense we can change and be who we are. I wish you and Vilk all the best. Enjoy your time so good as possible. much love from Switzerland ❣

I’ve realized an interesting attitude in myself over the past few months, and am curious if others can relate…the past few years while I was living in the US I rarely shaved, sometimes in summer but even then I didn’t always care when my body hair grew long. Took a while to get to that comfort point, but I just really didn’t enjoy shaving as it took so much time and I often nicked myself, and eventually became comfortable with only shaving once in a while, when I felt like it (because sometimes I do 🙂) However, since moving to South Korea last August, I’ve noticed that shaving, or at least having an appearance without body hair, is more common among both girls AND guys. (At least among celebrities…) And, funny enough, I’ve noticed that I am more open to the idea when it’s not just girls and women who are socially expected/encouraged to do it. It’s not just for shaving, the same goes for makeup. Few Korean guys wear makeup daily, but it seems to be more normal for guys to wear basic makeup here. So I feel more comfortable occasionally wearing makeup. Perhaps it’s a bit strange, but…yeah, I have noticed myself being more open to things like shaving and wearing makeup if it’s acceptable/sometimes encouraged for both guys and girls to do it. (Even if I still don’t do it often lol.)

Quite a lot of my female friends don't shave and I love that they don't care about others views on their bodies. I'm a female and I shave purely because I like the feeling of being shaven not for anyone else just for me. The point is it should be a choice for us not other people's opinions on our bodies, it's so dumb others think they can make us feel bad for our choices on things that don't affect them

Mindboggling comments. The body is a very personal thing. It's nobody's business. Seriously. Unreal. People forget we are mammals, we are human animals. We have Hair! Naturally EVERYWHERE on our bodies!! It's NATURAL, commenters get over it. Millions of Woman worldwide DO NOT SHAVE off their naturally growing human hair! And that is a beautiful thing.

I absolutely love the angle you took to present this.....and I love when people do things against the norm that disgust those that are so stuck in the norm to accept anything else. I am greatly a "less is more" type when it comes to body hair. I myself am quite hairy. I keep a beard mostly because I don't like my face without it lol but I hate hair on the sides of my head and have either been close to bald or a mohawk style cut for most of the past maybe 36-37 years. I shave my arms and keep almost everything else trim (including my pits! but my legs are not so hairy to bother me) Personally, as a fan of yours, I don't think shaved pits fits your character!! Haters gonna hate...You Rock Eva!!

Thank you for sharing your personal story. ❤ I totally agree with you. I had some similar experiences when I was younger and also when I was in my mid-twentys my ex bf told me to shave, because to him it was disgusting... But I decided to do it only if I feel like I should do. Like if it starts itching or something like this. I personally feel less sweaty if I grow my hair a little bit longer. And luckily my bf now, don't mind it at all. 😊

I used to wax my legs and shave my armpits. With age, I started having belly hair too, below and around the belly button. With recent health troubles, I’ve not been physically able to remove ANY hair on my body. The first times I went to doctors or acupuncturists with my very hairy legs, I was so embarrassed. Well guess what, they didn’t care at all, and even told me that they’ve seen even more hairy woman legs (I’m still struggling to believe it’s possible lol). So now, I don’t care at all that health professionals will see my hairy body 🤷♀️😊 Though I still care about society look and I’m not yet comfortable enough to show my body hair to regular people, and I hide it with clothes. I do want to get more comfortable, at least with my armpits.

There does seem to be double standards though in the way people look at that lol. If it's in some progressive or neo-hippie area, it's looked at as a lifestyle choice. If they're women from some redneck trailer park, or from the Appalachian boondocks, then "they're unkept and dirty. And must be something wrong with them."
