Have you noticed the trope that's like in a love triangle, the first love interest gets the girl most of the time? It's happened so much that every time I start reading a love triangle I just sigh and wait for the inevitable. It's like the authors were like "I mean, we were set with the romance, but how about we just spice it up a bit". Please stop. It's spicy enough as is, trust me.

+Cheshire Keira EVERY TIME! It's so annoying always knowing from the first page how the romance is going to end up D:
@keirad.44899 жыл бұрын
+readbyzoe I will say, throne of glass has so far really impressed me with the love triangle stuff because for some reason I ship Chaoleana and I know it's probably not endgame, I do know, and it might just be because there are so many different love interests but honestly, have no idea who she'll end up with. At this point it's more of a love hexagon.
@readbyzoe9 жыл бұрын
+Cheshire Keira That's one of the reasons I love the series so much! Romance isn't the main focus of the book, but it's still a big component and now it's become sort of a mystery to solve to see who she'll end up with. I love rooting for my favorite (I'm a Dorian girl) and seeing how her relationships with each person evolves!

I get you with the high fantasy thing. My parents just love that genre and you look at their book shelf and think wow, that's a lot of books and then you realise no, no, it's just like five GIGANTIC HIGH FANTASY BOOKS. Seriously, they're huge. They think I'm such a weak reader because I won't go anywhere near High Fantasy. I just don't like elves, dwarfs, goblins, witches, giants whatever. They're just a nope for me.

+Courtnay Plus Gentlemen Bastards isn't your traditional high fantasy setting with elves, dwarves, witches etc. It's kinda like game of thrones in that the world isn't smothered by magic and fantasy elements, it's done a lot more subtly. I strayed away from high fantasy for ages as well cause I personally always considered medieval style fantasy settings with wizards and dragons to be tacky and off putting, but trust me books like those are a lot more traditional and stereotypical and the genre spans much farther than that.

I've noticed a lot of people don't like high Fantasy. but I love it. I first got into reading when i was going through a difficult time in my life, when for over a year my only friend lived two hours away and my parents where fighting. (i was in grade 3). so when i read, I tried to escape reality, which i managed to do. and i kind of slowed down my reading, sticking to the same two series, the school for good and evil, which i read as they where being released and the How To Train your Dragon series, which i started reading after book 9 came out. when i went into high school, my parents divorced and my best friends left the country without warning or way of communication and i haven't heard from her since. it made me fall into a depression. THAT'S when i really started reading again, and same as before, it was to escape how horrible my life had become. two series that really helped me here where the Throne of Glass series and the His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire) series. I even read Harry Potter (which i had been avoiding because of what i heard about the fandom. i picked up the first book when the Fantastic Beasts movie came out) after a close childhood friend recommended it to me and i got the first one spontaneously from my mum. other things i read where the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon) and when i was younger, the Deltora Quest books. I've never been able to read and enjoy books that are just, normal, i guess? books set in our world with nothing different. or books with to much romance. as an Aromantic is just turns me off the book. does anyone else here like High Fantasy?

If you want to dip your toes into high fantasy, I would recommend a four book series by Terry Brooks called the Heritage of Shannara series. Start with "The Scions of Shannara", then "The Druid...", "The Elf Queen..." and "The Talismans..." He's written a TON of books in this world, but this particular set of four books can stand on its own. I read it in middle school, and just re-read it last year. STILL incredibly interesting, there were times I couldn't put the book down. You don't necessarily need to read anything that comes before it chronologically, because Brooks is really good at explaining these connections between people and places. GIVE IT A GO!

you should finish the 5th wave :) i have a rule that I have to get to page 100 or 120 of the book before judging it. that I should get to page 100 or 120 the first day I read it because that's where the story mostly unfolds or that's where the main story of the book starts or that's where I get the hang of the plot and rules of the story. another reason is that when I slump on reading like finish 2 chapters a day i never get to really finished the book at the end. so i need to know the real story the day I first read it and have a night thinking about what other events yet to come or how it will unfold completely then I'm sure that I'll get to finish that book in 3 or 4 days.

For your fear of high fantasy books I highly recommend the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson! There's only 3 books in the series, they are chunky but they read pretty fast! The world building is great and pretty easy to follow and there's a lot of action and feels. Plus one of the pov characters is a teenage girl, so it's not like you suddenly have to try and relate to a bunch of middle-aged men (which is sort of my struggle with a lot of adult literature tbh).

If you want to get into high fantasy, try Brandon Sanderson's the reckoners series (steelheart is the first book) and then maybe go to the emperor's soul and elantris is a good book. Then you can get in to some other of his series, but read some of his books that are not in an incomplete series. It's sometimes hard to get into them, but it's worth it. You know, I've a pretty complicated relationship with the twilight saga...I used to love it when I was 14-15, but as I grew up I started to pretty much hate it. I don't like the writing style, although the host, which is also from stephanie meyer, is one of my favourite books, but I really hate the plot and the relationships between the characters, I deeply believe that they are really unhealthy. But the worst thing about this saga, in my opinion, is the character of Bella; her actions and thoughts aren't good exemples to follow, she's really emo and annoying, in my opinion...but please don't hit me for this! XD

That being said I respect you opinion and understand that not everyone likes the same things. I love your videos!

I couldn't read the Maze Runner but the movie was really good. And I really don't like Divergent so I kinda agree with you about the Tris thing

The first movie was kind of accurate to the book but the second one was awful.

You should read the fifth wave because the movie is my favorite movie in the world and its not so good in the begging but in the middle it's a total twist and everything gets way way better

I attempted to read Maze Runner and got about 4 pages in and couldn't do it. The dialogue and writing just annoyed me! I decided to watch the movie instead and it was so much better!! I also don't plan to read The 5th wave. I just feel as if it isn't worth my time and I could just watch the movie. I haven't read Miss. peregrine's home for peculiar children only because it's not exactly the kind of book I would read. I do want to try it out though because Jesse loves it so much!

I'm the kind of person to respect other people's opinions even if I don't agree with them....... It's totally ok that she doesn't like miss peregrines home for peculiar children....I'm definitely not annoyed with that....definitely not questioning her taste or good common sense...I'm ok... She likes twilight and not MPHfPC?.....but- WHY?

The love triangle in Throne of Glass though...Like, Crown of Midnight was...I loved it cause my ship was sailing and the Queen of Shadows came and it sank...x"D...But for some reason I really shipped Manon and Elide....and Manon and Dorian...I'm conflicted on this one and has anyone ever thought that if Manorian sails (Manon is immortal, Dorian is not immortal) like how's that gonna work?? I'm reallly scared that some of my favourite characters might die....oh gosh... x""( I can't right now.

a good fantasy author i would really recommend with a bit of romance, some realism (or the feel of it) and a really good plot- i would recommend Maria V Snyder. i have finished reading her last book in her latest trilogy. i just couldn't put it down and have re-read it like 3 or 4 times this year. It is an amazing story ark with twists and turns all the way through as well as many parts that make you laugh or gasp. the first book is poison study followed by magic study then fire study. then on the authors website there are 1 or 2 short stories including 1 for the 1st chapter of book 1 written from the 2nd main characters point of view. then the next trilogy done about another character from the 1st trilogy is storm glass, sea glass then spy glass. then again another short story online. then the new trilogy is shadows study, night study and dawn study. I recommend these books to several people.
