As a kid, I always got so frustrated when I couldn't get my barbies to pose the way I wanted them to. Also, my favorite Barbie sets contained lots of little things, realistic details and the barbies had multiple layers of removable clothing on. Screw the whole 'kids don't care about articulation and clothing'-thing, that was all I wanted as a kid.

“kids don’t want articulation” is a transparent excuse. They just wants to produce cheap cheap dolls that parents will buy without thinking about it. Kids are totally disappointed and bored by stiff, dull dolls. I always tell parents, don’t buy your little kids cheap dolls from the dollar store. You’re teaching your kids that dolls are garbage.

Same Barbie to me was older when I was a kid. I always thought she was in her 20’s. Now she’s a teen. They even say she is in the new series. When I was a little girl, what pulled me to the Fashionistas line was the fact that they had joints and pretty clothes. I remember the flash Fashionista game that was about posing them for a magazine shoot, spent hours. Also dolls wearing high heels didn't affect me as a kid. All the dolls wore high heels and I grew into a ballet pumps and flip flops kind of girl with no animosity against doll heels.

Unpopular opinion: I dislike people who made a big deal out of the moment when Barbie started to have flat feet. She wore flat shoes since the 80s for sure (maybe even earlier). Just because she didn't have flat feet didn't mean she only wore high heels and supported that idea. Also I dislike people forgetting that Barbie had dolls of colour since the 60s.

Kids for sure want removable clothes and articulation. Changing the clothes of a doll is a HUGE part of the appeal. Also, Mattel’s quality is hitting the floor because they’re scared to lose money. If the doll is cheap to produce, you won’t lose as much money when the doll flops. But they don’t understand that people will buy the dolls if they were made well!

They keep trying to make the product "fresh" and "relatable." Name changes are one of the easiest (and laziest) ways to do this. Doesn't cost much money to do compared to actual mold changes, and it has a chance to get the parent to jump and purchase simply because they can't recall if their kid already has one of these... smart, really, to follow generational popular name trends. Seems silly, but kids are very focused on "cool" names. Parents are too.

( I’m actually planning to do a little photoshoot with them.) As for the high heeled shoes, I actually don’t mind it so much that they have flats, I agree that Cinderella should definitely have heels, but the others, I’m okay with the flats, I guess it’s mostly cause I myself can’t wear high heels. I agree, I forgive a lot of sins cause I love the Barbie as the princess and the pauper ! 😁 Now, as for Bratz being better then Barbie, I honestly cannot say whether I agree with that or not, cause my mom Never allowed me to own any Bratz dolls, so I’ve never actually played with one, my mom didn’t like the way they looked.

Ok, the BMR1959 line is exactly what I've always asked for: fashionistas with mtm bodies and outfits with at least two pieces with no printed on details, and accesories. And their outfits having that big logo all over the place is because they replicated the logomania trend that big brands popularized a couple years ago. Sometimes I feel doll collectors get too caught up in the hype or the new doll/line at the time and are not really being critical of what product they’re putting their money into. We should be asking for more articulation & better quality in the dolls especially with the prices going up. And yes to EAH & Bratz being the superior dolls 🙌🏼 & why? Easily because of QUALITY & details! 💯

I always loved dolls that had fluid movement. As a child, most of my Barbies were the ones with pose-ability. I even used to snap the knees and elbows of the ones that weren't posable. My mom eventually stopped buying me the ones that weren't more flexible because she got tired of fixing the others. To this day, I'm still the same way. About the kids not liking articulation, as someone who owned mostly Barbies as a kid, my opinion is valid. I had only one Barbie doll that had great articulation, I simply found her more fun to play with because it was much easier for her to sit down, unlike all my other Barbies that didn't have knee joints. I agree with the whole thing about Barbie being older. To me growing up it made sense that she would be at least 25 due to all the jobs she has had over the years many of which requires some kind of a degree & being that she's been a college cheerleader and graduated several times I always assumed that she was in her 20's especially because of some of her fashions seemed more mature then what I've seen teenage girls would wear growing up. To this day that's how I still pretty much see her as & all of my characters in my Barbie collection are at least 21 & up. Now in regards to the BMR dolls I believe the inspiration is more western urban 90's fashion. I'm from NYC & a 90's baby myself so as soon as I saw it I totally knew what they were going for but I understand how many might feel especially if they've never really grew up surrounded by that kind of aesthetic but to kinda give you an idea of what they were going for I'd suggest watching a few clips from shows like In living color, Martin, Living Single, family matters & the fresh prince of bel air just to name a few because theses shows in particular were & still are extremely popular especially amongst the black community and influenced this kind of fashion/style. I personally only got the one you have with braids because that's the one I liked the most but will admit that the others aren't really a priority for me to get but still appreciate that they took this approach because it's really outside the box in comparison to what they usually do.

I 🖤 ever after high. It was so adorable and the outfits were so freaking cool. The Mad Hatter girl had high heels that were shaped like teacups! & I also hated princess and the pauper, but mostly because my sister used to watch it over and over again.

Finally somebody mentions Novi stars!!! For a while I thought I was the only one who even heard of them. Im not a big collector, i'm only 18 and don't have much money to spare but I was obsessed with them because they all had so many cool original ideas and something about the designs always hit the right spot for me. I miss seeing them in stores so much because it was the only doll line I was up to date with. I wish they'd come back. Same with the old monster high and ever after high, the dolls I see in stores now just feel so bland compared the the dolls I grew up with.

4:55 Nikki is actually a different character! She's originally one of Skipper's friends, so I always imagined her age being between Skipper and Barbie, similar to Summer in her original depiction :) 9:33 I'm literally the exact opposite haha, EAH has never really appealed to me because I'm not big into princessy stuff, moreso all things multicoloured and wild... Also diversity of characters! I also LOVED Novi Stars and did my own take on a reboot for it a wee while ago! 11:50 Same here! Barbie was always on her 20s for me... 12:45 Nope not just the songs haha, it has some of the best characterisation and talent behind it too!

Very nice video, keep making more like this 😄 Well, I agree with your unpopular opinions, but I disagree regarding to EAH and MH, since MH is my ultimate favorite doll line, it's my biggest doll collection 😜. I remember being so excited when they were released, it's always resonated a lot with me, I love their concept, style, and how different, unique they are. I've never really been a Bratz fan, always liked Barbie more. But I saw a while ago the Bratzillaz, guess they were released when MH was trending. I love their glass eyes, I like their fashions too. From what I saw, these dolls look to be of good quality, I would buy them. Was thinking, maybe a little part of the reason they cheapen the quality is because of parents. I've seen many parents' reviews on sites and to my surprise, many were complaining about naked dolls, like, children take the dolls' clothes off and then it's naked around the house, so so many of the parents get relieved if the doll has molded on fashions. But that's so... 😅 It's so much better articulated dolls with actual clothes, not painted on outfits. ✌😉

UNPOPULAR OPINION: dolls are just dolls and should be used for fun and not taken seriously. As a Puerto Rican little girl, I always knew Barbie’s body proportions were not realistic and her skin was as beautiful as Nikki’s (or Christie’s) or Teresa’s skin color! If the doll came with skimpy or more reserved clothes, I loved her regardless. Still do, really ❤️

I agree with one of your posters. Bratz had some colorism issues. I find it interesting as Mattel tries to be inclusive the quality of the brand has decreased. No one seems to talk about that. The flat feet versus high heels. It's all too much. Dolls don't dictate how children see themselves. Its a toy. Parents, teachers, media, friends influence children. They put away toys by a certain age unless they don't. No one is becoming a doctor because an inanimate object influenced them. Or we would have adults runnings around brandishing swords saying I have the power.

I only just found your channel, hence the commenting on old videos. But I was today years old when I learned that Barbies have no articulation in the knees any more. When I got my Gymnastics Barbie in 1995 or so, I was besotted with the extra articulation and just how much she could move. In contrast, I had a few cheap dolls with no articulation in the knees, and they always felt very lacking. Kids absolutely want articulation!

For those who don’t get Bratz. The reason why I LOVE bratz is because they are so INCLUSIVE, every line will always include characters with different skin tones, eye and hair colours. Literally anyone could find a bratz doll that resembles them. What I love is how diverse they are and how they appreciate different cultures and countries in their fashion. That’s why I personally love the genie magic line, each girl wore henna tattoos and embraced fashion trends worn in south asia. Even the Tokyo a go go collection showcased Japanese street wear. Their like a fantasy you’re not meant to see them as REAL people I mean they made babyz which could ride on motorcycles, they’re meant to be fun. I love how they always bring quality with their dolls, there’s always additional outfits, jewellery, accessories and charms that you could use personally. They always gave 100% in their packaging, play sets and media, even when their popularity decreased.

I agree with the articulation/painted on clothes. The painted on clothes is so bad, as a collector it's put me off getting a couple dolls I've seen, I don't want to add that to my collection. I also agree with preferring Ever After to Monster High. Don't get me wrong, I knew of Monster High first, and have two Draculaura dolls which I love to bits, and two cheaper ones, Klawdeen and Gigi Grant (both of whom suffer from bad glue seepage), but Ever After High appealed more to me, and I have got most of the Spring Unsprung collection. Briar Rose and Holly O'Hair are my grail dolls. My unpopular opinion is: Hairdorables is better than LOL dolls. What I love about the hairdorables is the hair is amazing. I just recently got my hands on the whole Hairmazing wave one collection and love them to bits. I've yet to get an LOL Surprise doll, but I'd love to get my hands on the Class Prez doll off of Amazon.

Law student: yes part of the reason is cost but actually an even greater issue is that the articulated limbs create choking hazards. Huge product liability issue. Has nothing to do with what children like but rather protection from suit of oarents. The bigger the parts, the less number of parts, the better. Bratz are superior. They were on their way to being iconic but injunctions will not only snatch a crown but decimate it.

First, I’m with you on Ever After High. I love Monster High, but I’ve always been more into fairytales and the story with its characters was more intriguing to me with the Royals and Rebels. But I always hoped for that Monster High/ Ever After High crossover! And on the topic of articulation, I always played with my more articulated Barbies more, they were always the heroes in my play time stories since they could do more stuff (and it was more realistic to me since they could do more poses) And funny story: I was working a summer camp activity where kids had to pull a mystery item out of a bag for an improv game and one little girl pulled out one of my older articulated Barbies I put in and she was in AWE of her articulation. She just wanted to play with her and make her do different poses. So yes, kids today LOVE articulated dolls, it was honestly so cute her reaction 😂

I loved the detail put into EAH clothes and bought 2 of the boy dolls from the series, but I could never get over the huge heads of the girls. They were oversized and too round to me, but I always loved the details. I didn’t like the BMR fashions, but I still want the dolls to customize. Bratz were a lot of fun when I was growing up, but due to their outfits my mom refused to buy me some of them. I wish more playline dolls were articulated! I remember being a kid and so happy the first time I got a doll with jointed elbows! She could move a lot more and it blew my mind. I hate heels, have since I was little, so the flat feet don’t bother me, I just wish they had more footwear options.
