Happy New Year Kyra, Harley and AAF Fam! 🎉 Do you know that y'all have more Snow than we do here in Wasilla, Alaska!? We've barely had any snowfall, and crazy warm days, it's absolutely BONKERS of a Winter here so far ( last year we had about 54" at this time, now only 4")😳, we all just want our deep snowfall so we can play with our winter toys (aka snow machines)!! Lol So sorry to hear about Thor, sounds like y'all did everything you could, we all know how much you love your sweet animals. Prayers the rest remain healthy and happy in the beautiful snow. So much YES to the new schedule you mentioned, what a treat and great way to spice things up, I honestly feel like it is gonna be a GREAT decision and Blessing! Stay warm, safe, and as always, stay blessed. 🎊🎆❤️🇺🇸

🐐Awww sad to hear about Thor. Great diagnosis, really important to have basic vet skills with animals as the veterinary folks can’t always get there in time. I had Goats for nine years (Alpines) so smart… fences need to be Horse high, Hog tight and Bull strong.🐐Famous for getting out! Don’t sweat the loss of followers, that said, I really like your idea of setting a schedule and posting different topics on different days👍🏼Thanks for sharing the Snow diamonds ❄💎truly beautiful. 🤗💖🙏🏼

Thank you so much! And I absolutely agree about the fences! Tricky little buggers they are lol!

@@Anarchyacresfarmstead yep! And for the record “Makita warrior” here, they’re more comfortable to use over long haul projects imo, though the DeWalt batteries seem to last longer.

Makita and Ryobi here mostly. Though do have quite a few Parkland which are Lidls own brand I think..surprisingly last well for their price.

a winter without snow is like pancakes without syrup today for the first time ever I made the perfect pancake. 10" glass bowl (oven safe glass) 3/4 cup pancake mix & water 2 1/2 minutes microwave oven!

I agree goats are a high Maintenace animal. My Niece had a couple one was REALLY dumb and half blind (rescue) and one winter (we live in Northern South Dakota, and it was REALLY cold that winter) he fell asleep in the watering bucket and drown the water froze with his little head in it. In the morning my poor Niece found him out in the barn ... sad

Oh geeze! That’s so sad! But not surprising with goats 🙈

Sorry about Thor. I lost my buck over the holiday and it’s hard on the heart every time. I keep saying I am done because they are not as hardy as people think and they have no will to live once they get ill. To get the medical attention is a true struggle to. You have to be prepared to do all shots and understand the signs of illness and the correct treatment for the illness. Sadly they have taken away the ability to get the meds needed unless you have a vet and as you said they are hard to come by now. Hope everyone else stays healthy!

Oh I’m so sorry for your loss of your Buck. My husband has felt the same way about goats, he used to love them but now hates them because of how fragile they are. But I feel like every loss is a lesson. It’s a hard lesson, but a lesson nonetheless the less.

If I was starting over, I’d get sheep, not goats. It’s the difference between keeping Peking ducks or Muscovy. They eat trees you don’t want, especially if you try to protect them. Jump out, climb out. Are too cute and pet like to harvest them without heartbreak, unless you don’t castrate them… but they are the only animals I castrate because they stink if you don’t. Sheep have great milk, generally leave trees alone, fence easy, give wool, take the cold and heat better, etc.

I used cordless tools in construction every day for decades. My choice was Makita more often than not . They just lasted for me but every brand has or used to have variations in the quality of construction of the individual tool and that made a huge difference. I would almost swear our horses prefer temperatures in the 20s. I just lost a big flaxen chestnut walker. It would be in the teens or 20s and give him a fresh 10inches of powder snow and sunshine and he would just show and glow. All of our horses seem to like cooler weather.
@AnarchyacresfarmsteadКүн бұрын
Thanks for the tool input! And I totally agree about the cold temps. Sorry about loosing your horse.

You are spot on,goats are among the easiest farm animal to have up and die on you! Its important for non goat owners to understand goat polio is not related to human polio,and is not trasmissable between species. Id disagree to a point about sheep though, theyre one purpose and pleasure in life seems to be to practice dying,ideally in the most inconvienient or public spot they can find! Guess your wind sock mic isnt great, but hey, wind noise doesnt bother me..its farm life folks ;) 😉 ps happy new year!
@AnarchyacresfarmsteadКүн бұрын
Good point about polio. And I think with the sheep, getting genetics that are naturally pest resistant is key. The average sheep might be more similar to a goat, I’m my personal experience they’re a hardy lot.

Goats are one of the hardest critters to raise. I just spent 4 days trying to save my guy Thomas from a horrible case of frothy bloat. Its chronic so it'll come back in a month. Its a cycle and it's exhausting. I have cattle and 10 head of cattle is easier than 1 goat.
