@Andrew i once did a solo q gold to gm with mercy to see if it was possible, and i took a more shotcall role during the climb and because of that i now have a firmer understanding of the different ranks. In gold i found the biggest problem was people didnt trust their teammates. For example some supports such as moira will always dps in gold and rant about how they carrying the team at the end of the game that they won or better yet whilst losing start blaming dps and focus too much on gold medals. Tanks aren't much better and dps because they dont get the support or space required will always go on wild flanking missions. In my personal opinion if you want to climb start being extremely optimistic (talking up hype) and yelling at the team with a *cheerful playful* voice; to push forward kill x y and z, get point. Trust your teammates and they'll learn to work together. Of course always climb with just getting better mechanical skills but that was not the point of this comment.

Honestly the reason players get stuck in gold or plat is because they are too busy evaluating the team and not themselves. I watched a stream with xQc, he reviewed a gold tank main who blamed his dps for not killing anything; yet he didn't push shields down to make space, he only ulted when (as orisa) when no one was around and then yelled at dps for dying... well xQc said it best, "As tank you're giving your team a fork when they need a hammer"

The difference in call outs made by Kabaji versus lower ranks is huge. In the first few games he is almost the only one calling out, but his team listens to him and creates this team work that makes it work. Amazing

Going against Tracer, shoot shoot melee and do 90° blinks Going against Cree jump back, you don't always have to blink back Know when you can rely on your healers and when you cannot. If you can't, you need to rely on health packs 90° pulse bombs/blinks are good to go for because the enemy will strafe in a straight line towards you instead of side to side Waiting for rally armor to fade away before a team fight isn't a bad idea Shoot shoot melee and blink going against Genji Know your health pack locations Play high ground and around walls when going against Roadhog (it's harder to land hooks) Always melee recall against enemies Don't just rapidly blink, pace your blinks in certain situations to bait out abilities Look for targets that are out of position Duel Reaper at a distance and move unpredictably Keep an eye on your cooldowns before you engage a target 2cp defense has the better spawn so it's okay to trade with the enemy. Tbh I don't understand why people think McCree is a good counter to tracer. The only time I lose a 1v1 against a McCree is when the McCree flanks me and gets a drop on me. As a tracer, I have 3 blinks + a recall. The McCree only has a flash. WAY harder for the McCree to land the flash.

Right? It is so discouraging when you have the game of a lifetime and still lose. He is literally twice as skilled as his opponents and still lost 2 games in placement. He did everything possible to keep his teams afloat and it isn't enough. While I do believe "your SR depends on you and your play" overall, this shows that on a game-by-game basis your skill/strats/heroes may not matter if your team doesn't do well. I propose "skill rating" in a team-based game is misleading. A more apt name would be "competitive rating"
