I like this movie because it uses jumpscares really appropriately. Like when the little girl turns around and sees the villain in the beginning and there's a jolt of music. There's no artificial build, it's just a jolt. That's a really accurate simulation of what it would feel like if you turned around and saw some crazy looking guy in real life. I also like the psychic stuff. I just wish it wasn't so mismarketed because now we have a ton of people expecting your typical "scary" horror movie, and now they say the movie Longlegs is a boring piece of crap.

Jeff your passion and insight for movies and all things physical media is second to none, great job as always! Much love from a fellow New Englander.

Wasn't it weird that the cop guy never mentioned his daughter's BDay was on the 14th

Have booked to watch Longlegs as part of a three movie triple-bill at the cinema this weekend. Tron: Legacy in IMAX with Laser 3D and Twisters in IMAX with Laser GT on the UK’s widest screen. 😎

I’m a fan of horror and I thought that this was incredibly unsettling. I enjoyed it, but I thought the second and third acts negated all of the intrigue and suspense of the first one.

When horror movies try to use the literal devil, it sorta loses me with a few exceptions (The Witch for example). The idea that he uses these spheres inside replica dolls that some dude makes and another person tricks people to letting them into the home and it works immediately on the family... it's just... why? lol I can't suspend my disbelief enough to let that spook me. I just laugh thinking about the silliness at least within the context of the movie. If a religious figure came to my door I wouldn't even answer or if I do it'd be a quick "no thank you". Jeff as you point out it's so weird the movie hits us over the head with "hey this dude has an age appropriate daughter with an upcoming birthday" yet the dad character doesn't seem to give a shit, it's like it's not even a thought in his head which the movie might try to justify because he's anti voodoo?. They needed to make the dialogue that tells us his family could be a target be more subtle to make the ending feel earned or make Harker noticing and revealing to him the pattern happen too late for them to even stop it. I like movies that can play with us and then leaves us wondering if it was or wasn't the devil/a demon. We need a movie that uses angels/christianity tbh because like you were saying about Perkins talking about people doing awful things through history in the name of God. Nicholas Cage did good except for maybe 2 scenes where he went too far into the Cageyness with the singing/yelling. Overall the vibes and acting was great. Just not a fan of the mechanics of the plot and/or the editing. Marketing did a better job of unsettling me tbh.

Hi Jeff, love your channel. I especially enjoy the content involving origin stories like the Blockbuster one and the disc wars, etc…I also really like the informative shows where you delve into the technology. I would love for you to do a show on the manufacturing and distribution of blu-ray and 4k discs. If anyone would have the insider information on this I feel it would be you. I have returned so many discs that are scratched and I would really like some insight into why this is. Well, keep up the good work, thanks. Jason

Would be funny if Lee is or was the "doll" her mother would bring in.

I think the things that don’t add up for you are just plot conveniences in order to tell the story he wanted to tell.

I had high hopes for this movie and ended up not really enjoying it. Why did Long Legs go after Harker? She had no dad. It makes no sense. Plus, the movie holds your hand too much and foreshadows way too much.

its a very meh movies for me. Especially at the opening where the FBI girl stood against the window before entering the house when her colleague got shot. It immediately shouted to me Hello B grade movie !!!

I’m honestly baffled by the near universal praise. Yes the atmosphere was unsettling and the cinematography was incredible , but the plot becomes nonsensical. And why would a little girl ask a woman that she just met (even though she’s her dad’s colleague) if she’ll come to her birthday party? Fifteen minutes in it gives away what the climax will be. Also the whole “hail Satan” was far from subtle. It’s frustrating since this was my most anticipated and the marketing was the best I’ve ever seen, but the more I think about the movie and how much better it could’ve been, the more I dislike it. Maika Monroe still rocks though

Nicholas Cage delivers a delightfully maniacal performance as the serial killer, but unfortunately, he's barely in the movie. The rest of it is dogshit, reminiscent of a poor imitation of Se7en and Silence of the Lambs, with a story that unfolds so incoherently that it's forced to include a scene solely dedicated to explaining the plot of the movie. The movie thinks it's smart and clever but it's really neither.

Yeah it's a weird cocktail of Seven, Silence of the Lambs, Hereditary, and maybe The Witch? Seven and Silence for the FBI/detective stuff, Hereditary for the machinations of this ritual/process, The Witch for the vibes and ending reveal.
