There's something about how Duncan responds to a person's ideas and questions with such sincere intensity. Being heard, real genuine responses and excitement. Acknowledging that he's just a flawed human like all of us but there's a joy in looking for the answers. What a treasure he is. LOVE them both, Lex and Duncan.

I know no-one will read this, but I just want to share. I lost my parents as a kid, both from cancer. My dad when I was 8 and my mum just after my 19th birthday. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer soon after my dad's death. I was too young to fully understand how fortuante we eventually were at the time, that she fully recovered, and I'll always cherish those extra years together. Unfortuanetly, the cancer returned a few years later. Long story short(ish) - I just want to say how greatful I am for the final episode of The Midnight Gospel. As tough as it is to watch, I repeat it often. It's one of the few things that consistenly brings me to tears in a cathartic, healing way. You express the words and goodbye that I didn't have the chance to. So, yeah, thank you Duncan for making me feel less alone. And I'm sorry for your loss. Lots of love.

This guy hit the spot on the depression topic, people who have ADHD will relate heavily, it's a weird feeling to have. Sleeping from 5 AM to 4PM and still being tired. Longing for things you would normally do but feel like you can't handle. I have ADHD and i go through depressive episodes and the suicide option always freed me in a weird way. I never wanted to do it and i never will but knowing the option is always there is suithing in a weird way. I guess it's a way of finding power over something when you feel like you don't have any power over your own life. I always tend to go outside into nature when i enter such an episode since it's really calming and helps me go back to baseline.

Well said. I'm sure other people experience this as well but I don't think it gets talked about enough is the shutting yourself off from friends/family and having them upset with you because they feel neglected or avoided which only makes you feel worse about yourself. I've recently came out of one of my spells of depression and just knowing it can creep back up on me at any moment makes me enjoy my break from it even more. It's such a rollercoaster

This is so true!!! People in my life do not comprehend what it’s like to truly experience deep ADHD. I tell people how I am so bone tired, whether I sleep 15, 8 or 4, I just continuously feel so exhausted. If it weren’t for medication, it’s so hard to exist day to day. It’s hell. I as well as experience episodes of deep depression, but again, the medication has helped mine so much. But it’s interesting I’ve come across your comment because I haven’t heard anyone talk about still being exhausted even after getting a long stretch of sleep. The wanting off myself but won’t, it’s like a double edge sword, but I feel like doing so because it feels to me that life is just so complicated, when it shouldn’t be so. Like I just can’t get anything right, I’ve failed and fail at everything so what’s the point of living? Sh- sucks ass. Smdh. Consistently living in a self prison.

Two of my favorite people talking about life, depression, and family helps humble me in my own arrogance. I always believe in myself too much, which leads to complacency from my arrogance. Duncan, I am a former Vet, 2 kids serving now. I have been hospitalized now over 15 times. I always thought I was just drunk or PTSD but now we know there is something wrong. The VA said, Bipolar, major depressive disorder, borderline personality disorder. They gave me tons of medication. Nothing worked. I don't know what works for everyone else. I had to close my business and buy a 5th wheel. I moved to the farther place I could think of. I left for Maine. I live in the woods now with my dogs. I haven't left these 5 acres in over a year. I don't have it worked out but at least I am not cutting myself and wanting to kill myself every day. When that feeling hits me sometimes I still cut but I watch country music reaction videos, drink my beers and have a few smokes. I found something to make me laugh and sing. I don't know if it will all work out but I am hanging on. I appreciate your testimony and just know some friends I've lost and some vets that have been lost, I am still pushing on!! Thank you brother.

I love when Duncan reaches a wider audience who might not be familiar with him. I've been a big Duncan fan since way back around 2010....in the Lavendar Hour days(his first podcast). It's funny though....I've seen/heard _very little_ of his stand-up. While he is incredibly funny, I think of him more as some kind of existential philosopher than anything else. Deeply wise, compassionate, unfiltered, and very funny. With a healthy dose of verdant psychedelia...bordering on wild-eyed cult leader vibes. :] All that to say.....Duncan Trussell is hands down one of my favorite humans to have ever humaned. I feel lucky to have stumbled across him all those years ago. He's had a legitimately big influence on my life over the past decade plus.

The way Duncan describes depression (around 2:15min) is so raw and accurate... in some strange way it actually makes me feel relieved. Like okay, Im not just lazy, unmotivated and without discipline..... BUT, I need to force myself do the little things that eventually compound and push through the darkness. Depression is such a scary and crippling thing , Iv quit smoking after over 25 years for 30 to 40 smokes a day, Iv gone from 28% body fat to jacked with abs before, Iv started my own business from nothing..... Iv done these things that take an immense amount of disciple, drive and consistency before so I know I can again BUT, just leaving the house in the depths of depression,.... now that is truly mammoth undertaking. I appreciate you Gentlemen, this has lifted my spirits today.

I saw Duncan live several years ago and was in standing room and was starting to feel an edible kick a bit too hard in as my back and legs were giving out making me wonder if i would make it until he came on and then his pre-set ohm began and as he went through the audience he ran up to me, only possible due to the particular spot I was standing in, and he stared me in the eyes while waving an incense stick around which i knew was something special i would talk about in years to come and was my main story for night and immediately the standing room spot became the best spot I could have asked for and the prior discomfort became worth it and an important part of the overall experience. It feels as if it was a lesson I deeply needed to learn as well. I can't think of any other person who could have taught me a lesson with a pre show ritual that is goofy on the surface. Marvelous human being.

The last episode of Midnight Gospel impacted my life like nothing else in the world. Whenever, I experience something powerful, it normally tends to fade away with time and I forget about it but this one stuck with me. I watched it two years ago and I've still carried on the lessons I learned from it. It also changed my relationship with my mother and made it stronger especially cause we watched it together. I put on Korean subtitles for her cause her English isn't so great. We were in tears hugging each other and telling how much we love each other. It hit her even harder cause she understood the underyling Buddhist precepts as she is a Buddhist herself. Guys, stop sleeping on this show, you'll learn a lot. Just be open minded.

The experience of actual pain in life is pure ecstasy because it will bring the opposite reaction which is pure bliss.
