If you ever watch news in the West they never ever mention the context. They never say that 80-90% of Palestinians prefer the Right of Return (turning Israel into an Arab state) over peace and statehood. An excerpt from the book by Hadrian Relandi "A Tour and Census of Israel 1695" In Gaza for example, lived approximately 550 people, fifty percent Jews and the rest mostly Christians. The Jews grew and worked in their flourishing vineyards, olive tree orchards and wheat fields (remember Gush Katif?) and the Christians worked in commerce and transportation of produce and goods. Tiberius and Tzfat were mostly Jewish and except of mentioning fishermen fishing in Lake Kinneret - the Lake of Galilee - a traditional Tiberius occupation, there is no mention of their occupations. A town like Um el-Phahem was a village where ten families, approximately fifty people in total, all Christian, lived and there was also a small Maronite church in the village (The Shehadah family). Relandi found NO Arabs in Palestine.

The ONLY counterpoint I will make is that a large or significant number of Arabs in newly formed Israel were asked to stay and I think sign peace agreements with Israel, many did so. I read that when the Arab High Command asked them to leave their villages, it was NOT for their safety but because they were considered TRAITORS for not carrying out sabotage and injury on their Jewish neighbors. If Hamas wins, THEY LOSE. There's 2 million Arab-Israeli citizens who would likely face "extreme punishment", along with Jewish people, and the Left would not care.

@@alimo8502 That is exactly what happened to Jewish people post ww2, they were displaced and were not allowed to enter many countries including Britain. The Neuremburg trials and compensation didn't start until years later in the 1950's. Palestine, specifically Gaza started a war with Israel, and Israel, as stated by International law, if they win, has absolutely every right to aquire that territory, as they should, despite them saying they don't want it. Most of the population 81% of Gaza come from refugees. A good proportion of them from Egypt and Jordon, and most of them from 1930's and 40's onwards. They are not a homogenous "ethnic" or "cultural" group, they are a mixed group of ethnic Arabs who share a "political" ideology. You should understand that fact and make the distinction more than you do, because to not acknowledge it, means you building your narrative on a fallacy, as their propoganda machine has done, saying that they are the indigenous people of Israel is simply not true. Not even close. After this is over, it will take negotiations with those nations to take some of these people in. I dare say the international community will also take them in. My country has already accepted 865 visa applications. It is very clear, they will NOT make a peace treaty, and likely never KEEP a peace treaty, and it is absolutely unfair and unsustainable for the Israeli people after decades of attacks, violence, stabbings, suicide bombings and now this massacre, to be expected to live with that threat into all perpetuity. It would be far better for Palestinians, instead of being under the yolk of evil, self serving men, who keep Palestinians poor, wanton and in a continual state of maryrdom to achieve their own self serving ECONOMIC and POLITICAL agenda, a chance to assimilate and prosper elsewhere. It would be better for them, for their sons, their women and better for their children, who are their future. Somewhere better, where they aren't force fed an ideology of hate from birth, and somewhere where they can heal and achieve self determination on their own merits, instead of sucking at the teat of welfare as they have and do for decades, and somewhere where thry aren't expected to die for their government. I'm sorry but she is right. You should perhaps seek out Palestinian opinions outside Israel and Gaza, people that know Hamas, and lived with Hamas and now live in Europe or the states and are thriving prospering. They have a different take on it, and their stories are worth listening to.

There has never been a Palestinian State. Why should Israel unilaterally create a Palestinian State within its borders, when Palestinians currently have not requested their own state within the land of Israel? The Palestinians were given an enormous opportunity to demonstrate the ultimate exercise in self-government in 2005. Israel withdrew every last vestige of Jewish and Israeli government presence from Gaza, leaving the Palestinians to govern Gaza as they saw fit. This was the ultimate occasion to demonstrate to Israel and the world, the Palestinian desire to exercise self-determination in an independent state, willing to live in harmony with neighbouring Israel, with no desire to be a continuous threat to the security of Israel and its citizens. It would not be unreasonable, to assume that the Palestinians are not willing to take up the mantle of an independent Palestinian State, that would not be a threat to the security and well being of Israel and its citizens.

@@OpinionGuy-cq8hp Correct, it was held in trust by the allied powers after the defeat and collapse of The Ottoman Empire. The Jews were desirous and in desperate need of self determination after 1500 years of suffering persecution and discrimination. In good faith the Jews consented to a substantially smaller state than originally mandated, while the Arabs were more concerned with completing what Nazi Germany had initiated, than pursuing self determination. Even today their focus is to destroy the State of Israel, and annihilate the Jews. So much so that they are not even pursuing self determination through a two-state solution, with the goal of living peacefully alongside the Jewish nation.

Thank you Dr Wilf for this fascinating and very candid talk. Oct 7th was a wake-up call for many of us Israelis belonging to the peace camp. Dr Wilf has been an activist in this camp for decades. We long for the day, as Dr Wilf says, that the basic belief that Israel cannot exist as the homeland for the Jewish people is finally truly uprooted from the Palestinian society. Until that day comes, we, unfortunately, will continue living by our swords, and the Palestinians, by their own choice, will continue their suffering. Gaza could’ve become the Singapore of this area, but instead the Palestinian people had made their choice and will continue paying the price for that choice, because we’re not going anywhere.

Radical left in the West supports all radical movements, including radical Islamists like Hamas.This phenomenon is not new, but it`s history has not been handled in the media. Radical Islam refers to a set of extremist beliefs, behaviors and ideology within Islam. The Western radical left started to cooperate closely with Palestinian terrorist organisations already during the1960`s.The Soviet Union financed them both. This started first in France, West Germany and Italy, but spreaded fast to all Western countries. So Palestinian terrorist organisations and the Western radical left have cooperated already close to 60 years.This is why I am not surprised about the support Hamas gets from today`s Western radical left.
@DevilHorst11 ай бұрын
Why do people always need to make such broad statements? I don't know what media you consume but I can point you to a number of major publications that talk about this. For example, in Germany the connections between the radical left group RAF to Palestinian militants is well-documented through bestselling books like "Der Bader-Meinhof-Komplex". There was even a popular movie on this. You may believe this is not sufficiently reported but to claim that "no media" tackles this is simply wrong.
