I kinda wonder how powerful Finn and Jake would’ve have been had they not abandoned the idea of learning magic because even without magic they are capable of some crazy things I mean Finn outright made a psychic arm once and Finn obviously has some cosmic importance. And when they learned magic they didn’t lose their minds like some magic users

This is very similar to the concept of CHIM, Amaranth and The Godhead from the Elder scrolls series. The Primordials all seem to be personifications of fundamental concepts of the adventure time universe. In which case, coconteppi must be associated with one or more of the fundamental concepts of magic, perhaps madness? Anti-magic, on the other hand, is most likely associated with different concepts than magic, making reality more ridged and well defined or perhaps forcing a different point of view on anything exposed to it.

Until Golb digested the crown back it's wishing state, as Betty specifically said, it was governed by the original Gunther's wish. He wished to be the ice king, a good ice king, one that loved his Gunther. That's why Simon became the ice king. Penguin Gunther on the other hand, also received the crown in its wishing state after Golb spat it out, and being in exactly the same situation as the dino Gunther, he happened to have had the same wish. Plus drums I guess.

It's interesting, a number of other comments described CHIM from Elder Scrolls, but nobody mentioned Azathoth, which directly inspired it. Azathoth, also called the Blind Idiot God, the Deep Dark, or the Cold One, is the being at the core of existence, outside the universe. All of reality, including itself, resides within its dream. Its presence is all-encompassing but it doesn't have real consciousness or agency within its dream. Its form is described as a giant sentient black hole dripping pieces of itself in all directions into the void, but it is constantly changing and shifting. It is constantly surrounded by cherub-like beings, playing flutes and pipes in a desperate hope to keep it asleep for all eternity. It is both the most and least powerful entity in all of existence, and if it ever wakes up, there will be no more existence.

So magic is basically people realizing there existence than stretching said existence into a malleable force that is ultimately dependant on the negative emotion they now feel instead of hope and other emotions that come from being normal people. And how strong you are in magic is determined by how much of this reality you truly Accept. If you accept all of it you become a true controller of your reality whale if you can only grasp say a single sentence of this truth it basically gives you a small amount of mastery over ones existence.

I actually think the connection between a wielder of magic being sad/mad which fuels them is that these two states of mind tend to separate the user from reality which as you said is how magic works. Madness being mentally out of touched with the existence around you seeing things that are not there and reacting in ways that seem absurd. Sadness can bring that also as depression tends to make people fear or feel things that's contrary to their surroundings. For example, a depressed person tends to think that their presence makes everyone feel miserable or that they wholly hate that person, when in actuality those said people doesn't show those feelings whatsoever. They also tend to heavily overthink which causes the person to come to conclusions about the world that are very contrary to what it actually is, only seeing through the lens of despair.

The general idea of Mantling a godlike entity is so cool to me. Wonder Woman Mantles Ares by killing/deposing him, Talos essentially Mantles Lorkhan himself when he dies and becomes the god-protector of Men, the Hero of Kvatch Mantles Sheogorath after Jyggalagg is freed, Ahsoka basically Mantles the Daughter in the Clone Wars when she absorbed the Daughter's life essence, even some of the original ideas of "Mantling" as we know it like Apollo taking over for Helios as the Sun god and Artemis taking over for Selene as the Moon goddess. There's some kind of deep-seated belief in human religion/culture (they meld together the further back you go before writing existed) that it's possible to take over for a god and become them. It just makes me smile because it shows that even our distant ancestors, thousands or possibly even tens of thousands of years ago if our non-Homo sapiens sapiens ancestors really did have some kinds of very early culture, were just as optimistic as we are currently about our ability to become someone greater than we were before, and I think that's beautiful

Idea. Things in the dream can affect the dream, we see this to be true. By dropping the bomb during a massive war humanity caused thier portion of the dream change into a nightmare, unleashing mutants, horros and other Almost-real things, causing magic to surge to levels FAR beyond anything earth has ever seen.

My thoughts on the bomb and the onset of widespread magic: I do not believe the bomb was magical in nature in itself. We know that magic comes with madness and sadness. An explosion that devastating would cause instant unparalleled levels of both worldwide. And magic is simply realizing reality... isn't. So I ask you, if you were mutated in an instant, even nonfatally, would your perception of reality not be shaken to its core? Combine that with the madness and sadness, and magic spreads like wildfire.
