For those who may have issues finding the create destructible mesh. You have to enable the APEX plugin under physics in the Plugins menu. I believe it’s under the edit tab.

Go to Edit > Plugins actually. Then search for "Apex Destruction", turn that on and restart. THEN you will see that option to make your mesh destructible.

When you say it is applicable to a static mesh, can that be a model that is imported? If it is, must the model not have any animations? The static part of static mesh means it is something with a mesh that doesn't necessarily change or move? So a player wouldn't be static, but for example a box or wall would?

can you set it to break depending on the force of an impact? Better yet can you place a parameter range dependent on force that sequentially goes from deformation to destruction? For example; Writing on a piece of paper with a pen that leaves an embossed deformation but when more force is applied the paper rips.

Can explain how to use destructable Meshes made with PhysX? Because when I am importing them, they don't have collision and I can't change any collision setting there. BTW nice tutorial.
@adaniel292910 жыл бұрын
You should be baking the collision and tangents in the apex tool before export.

Hello I was wandering if you could help me, i am trying to in unreal cause a chain to break due to stress. It would collide with anything but as soon as the spaceship uses a sort of hyper drive and thrusts upward either the chain will break that has it hooked to the wood. Or the wood will break of with the chain include. I am just a noob and am unsure about how to start or what blueprints to use :( thank you for tutorial!

Thank you so much UT4 engine looks pretty cool how it automatically does this for you but I was trying to look all over the internet trying to find a tutorial about gibbing characters. Oh and I did not not just want to gib characters when they die, I also wanted to blow off limbs and still have them live like the zombies in the call of duty games. Is there any tutorial for this? Would I rig my characters in Maya first to gib like that or do it all in UT4?

@Rufran256710 жыл бұрын
Leo I.M It would have the same issue even if I started it in the air and let it settle. However, I tinkered and found that the issue has to do with the fact that I was scaling the object. It functions as I would expect when working with the default-sized object.

Destructible meshes seem to be broken in UE 4.22.1. The previews in the mesh editor don't work, and it just always looks like its fractured (My destructible mesh is glass by the way if that makes a difference)

I've been having issues with destructibles colliding with static mesh components from a blueprint. Everything is set block all and has collision set, but the destructible falls right through. Did you have to set any other collision settings anywhere?
@TeslaUE411 жыл бұрын
Hmmm....i haven't set any other settings apart from the ones you see in the video, they are all at their defaults. I have had problems trying to get my destructibles to fracture when using projectiles, but i'm going to look over it properley soon. I had a few crashes yesterday when playing around with blueprints with destructibles. You can p.m me in detail and i will try replicate the problem if you want
@RyanQFleming10 жыл бұрын
Tesla Dev I also crash with destructibles in blueprint. Please post a video if you fix this.
@EnosShenk10 жыл бұрын
I did end up fixing mine. One thing you might want to mention is a destructible added to a blueprint has "Tick physics async" toggled by default, which means it only collides with objects on the async physics frame. Which by default is almost nothing, toggling it off fixes it.
@TeslaUE410 жыл бұрын
Nice one! i will add this to the video info. Thanks Enos.

@loveryoda10 жыл бұрын
First, you need to select the mesh. The details information should be on the right side. After you roll down few pages, you should be able to see Collision section. Simulation Generater should be there.

When I click Fracture Mesh UE4 doesn't respond. Do you know why? Edit: I used MaterialSphere_DM instead of SM_MatPreviewMesh_02 and it worked.
@OGPatriot0310 жыл бұрын
When I try this with a glass window it works quote well however, if I "simulate physics" it just falls apart right at the start of simulation. Without it checked the window will fall apart only when I run through it. The stock FPS template little ball gun doesn't damage the glass. I'd love some help! very handy tutorial.

He has another video which explains that. You have to make the projectile have a blueprint "cast to DestructibleActor" and make some damage to the object

Can UE 4 use Apex for destruction ?
@adaniel292910 жыл бұрын
PhysX is built in, this destruction slicing by seed is probably apex itself. So yes, it can and does. If you are interested in importing your own apex assets as well, you can do that since it supports it natively. UE4 has full Nvidia Gameworks integration after all.

+Kaiyoken420 Having the same issue. did you manage to find a solution?
@Kaiyoken420official9 жыл бұрын
+Joseph Lynch unfortunately no, I haven't. Using Destructible meshes in Ue4 would probably be best for simple shapes like cubes and prototyping. We'll have to use another program to make more complicated meshes destructible.
@Joe-rl9me9 жыл бұрын
Kaiyoken420 I managed to fix it by using a blueprint to switch the meshes as the force is applied. it gave the exact same effect whilst keeping the original collision until it fractures.

Hmm this is impressive I've been using the cryengine but ue4 costs too much even though it has neat features like this and it's in game asset creation I still like cryengine
@marc40410 жыл бұрын
Jack-Of-All-Trades crytek is nice but it isnt on the level of ue4. the royalty is fine. if price is the issue then why not use Havok's Vision engine? that is free with no royalty. $19 is sweet if you ask me. It beats the last license cost for ue3. Also I have been really impressed by the fact Epic is making strides to communicate with the community on a level I haven't seen before from a dev company.
@adaniel292910 жыл бұрын
An extra 10 dollars a month isn't a big deal, especially considering the fact that the sound engine for CryEngine has to be separately licensed if you want sound in your game.
