For anyone following this tutorial, there are some serious omissions here that you'll need to fix in your project to get this to work correctly. Firstly, you need a root to pelvis bone in both IK rigs. Secondly, to fix the pose, you need to set your character's root and pelvis bone to Animation Scaled. And third, and this is the most important one, in your IK retargeter, you need to click on the root to pelvis bone and go into its details and change the translation mode to Globally Scaled. Now your root motion for your animations will be properly copied over.

Nevermind, I found it. You have to go to skeleton mesh, to the right of the search skeleton tree search-bar, you will see a setting option, click that and select show retargeting options. Then you can select animation scaled on the desired bones.

If you are struggling with the pose not being correct, then you can edit the pose when inside the IKRetargeter, after creating the IKRetargeter. there is an "Edit Pose" button at the same line as the save button. This fixed my re targeting issues :)

Gotta admit you're a lifesaver. This was the first tutorial about the new IK Retargeter, that actually gave me proper value in a reasonable amount of time. Since I didn't have any contact with the new retargeter so far, I was kind of stumped, when I saw the legacy one being removed for good, but it seems that the new system allows you to actually fix animations before the proper retargeting process. Anyway, thanks a lot!

Did you know you can edit pose in the IK retargeter? I used it on an Mixamo rig and it worked great. That means you don't have to pre pose the asset.

I've thought about moving to Ue5 for a while now and tried it out today with my custom rigged character. So far it seems that the initial setup for the retargeter is worth. It was a bit tedious but now that I've completed the setup, the benefits outweigh the initial time investment and I will make the move.

@@saiverx I made a character using CC4, exported, packaged, Uploaded to mixamo, downloaded with animations but imported it to UE and her skeleton was all deformed. I cant explain it lol Like legs were fuzzy, body was everywhere and head was on the Y scale somewhere lol

@@itsjxomusic I would suggest downloading the mixamo animations without a skin, importing into UE both the animations and your character exported from CC4 and then setting up the retargeting. No need to import your character to mixamo if you already have a skeleton :P

So I was able to get the retargeting to work and could export animations just fine but when I went to open up my project again the animations aren't showing in the ikretargeter. not really sure how to fix this issue or where to look to get the information to fix it. I tried just redoing the retargeting process shown in the video with new rigs and a retargeter, but i'm getting the same issue any help would be great

It all works well in preview but it doesn't work in play in editor at least when I did these steps in Lyra Starter game - automatic retargeter works, but manual retargeting later does not include legs nor root motion (event if it was checked and the slot is set to full body). Any ideas why that might be?

I didn't think i had any issues with this, but after attempting to add root motion to a rolling animation ive used a few times before... now that my root is the pelvis versus the bottom root - unreal doesn't seem to care that i have root motion ticked in the settings. I attempted utilized the pelvis when adding keys and adjusting the distance curves, but no avail. I'm hoping someone has a solution before i export the model to blender and try and figure out how to change the root bone. This one is a noggin scratcher for me. Does the "re target root" and the animation root even share in this manor? I may have missed something completely different. I've made a ton of root motion sequences/montages so im so confused why/if this is causing it. p.s. i checked my animbp settings and they are good. Allowing root motion.

Hey Ryan, thanks for another useful video. I discovered an issue with the new retargeting though. I retargeted a cc3 character , so I could use it with the motion anim pro pack . The animations looked okay in the preview, but the root animation got lost (retargeting animation with root of course) . Any ideas?

@@blindeyegames1151 yes, I managed to solve that problem. In the new retarget manager you have to select the root bone and in the options set to global. Sorry I forgot the correct name for the settings and I don't have access to a computer at the moment. But there are a lot of videos about this problem, just search for root motion retarget in ue5 . Sorry that I can't help you and further at the moment.
