This is the 9th episode of my new series on Action RPG game using Gameplay Ability System. Gameplay ability system (GAS) is a framework introduced by epic games that is designed to support a data driven gameplay programming architecture.
Today, we are going to add a new gameplay ability to our system which allows characters to react to attacks. Here we have implemented a sword attack system and when an opponent character is withing the hit area of the sword when an attack is performed, the opponent will get hit and it will be showed by a hit reaction animation. Everything will be network replicated so that you can attack other players in a multiplayer environment this way.

Hello! I have been following your tutorial, but I don't want to implement multiplayer elements from it. So far I've been just replacing "get avatar" with "get player" and everything worked fine. But now I am stuck because referencing player doesn't do anything when checking for nearby actors. Can you please tell me what needs to be done to implement hit reactions not on player avatars but on NPCs?

Hi, I noticed that you sometimes use delays. Isn't that a bad practice for replication and will cause problems in a multiplayer game?

I noticed a bug, when I press attack all the time standing still the opponent receives damage, even when he is already out of range of the sphere.

I think you need to clear HitActors before "multi sphere trace for objects".

Hey Friend I am loving the series, i have a few suggestions for you that may make future videos easier for people to follow, do you think you would be able to implement something like this video has? kzbin.info/www/bejne/gonQqHeKZ96Zrc0 a keyboard and mouse overlay so I can see keyboard shortcuts you're using ECT and can follow along easier! going a step further maybe a live transcript to the side of specific actions you're taking, id love to help you with the later suggestion if something you want me to look into I can try get a custom python script together for you! You've Helped me loads and id love to be able to help you back :)

Sure, I'll try a keyboard. But I am not sure what is live transcript is, is it like showing action I do, create new actor, new function ...etc?

@@CodeLikeMe I was Thinking basically taking the keyboard and mouse input you have done and putting them to one side so people can see the history of these clicks? very similar to Chess games where they have a list of all moves taken by a player on the side, but instead it would have all the keybinds ECT you have pressed and any big changed like 'unticked check box' or 'Changed value to boolean'. I hope this helps explain myself a little better :)
