Unreal Engine August 2023 Free Assets

It's the first Tuesday of the month and Unreal Engine developers know what that means... free stuff! It's another Unreal Engine Marketplace giveaway, this time for August 2023. This month we have 5 "free for the month" assets, with no additions to the permanently free collection. These assets are yours to keep forever, so long as you "buy" them (for free) before the first Tuesday of September.

I pick up all of the free assets every single month. One day in the long distant future I may well load up Unreal Engine 27 and actually do something with one of them.

Unfortunately, I don't know if you can really expect older assets to still work at that point. Especially with the rate of UE releases and plugin abandonment... What I do is try to use at least one asset each month and make a video out of it (no matter how bad the result is). At least then I'm forcing myself to study the engine by consuming other people's good/bad/meh assets.

The first project was fire. I'm wondering why everyone s scared of making c++ projects. I can't remember seeing any c++ projects in Unreal's give-away

Not everyone likes coding. It also takes way longer to code some of the simplest things. So why make your life more difficult when there's an easier way?

On the marketplace only plugins can have C++ code, templates and others must be blueprint only.

@@kellowattentertainment In many cases using blueprints is good, but also for most things, c++ is more optimized. The optimization will only be noticeable if the game is big or medium. If the game is small, then the optimization problems won't be noticeable.

I'm a horder and a user. After watching your videos for awhile, I decided to start using these to help me learn more about UE. So I use at least one asset each month and then upload a video on what I managed to get done in my free time that month. Thanks for helping me get into UE!

Initially thought there was a theme going on with water, but doesn't look like the assets would really fit together. I'll hoard them even if I have no intention of switching to Unreal Engine. Oh, and I'm wondering if that pirate ship asset creator added updates to the pack but just never adjusted the number.

Didn't care much about the museum or the ship as even the ship is a bit too "technologically advanced" for the project I'm currently working on... the corals are quite nice, not exactly megascans, but the immersive template and Venice... as free assets, great, amazing, I think I'll be able to learn A LOT from them. But other than that they seem like more of a first version that just barely works.

Yes, they reset on the first Tuesday of the month, not monthly.

To be honest it's less about the crash and more about the assets. It was a pretty straight forward month so not a ton more detail to go into. Take for example the Corel... It's Corel. Beyond saying that and showing it, not really much I can cover ;)

GPU Crash -- are you using Mac? If yes, this is the root cause. Venice is PCG-based and the PCG subsystem is still alpha in UE5.2 with 0 documentation available, constant changes and tons of bugs. Sometimes PCG crashes on Windows, so I will not be surprised to see such a crash on Mac. 😜
