i really appreciate you explaining both what to do and why you are choosing to do it. it really helps in using what you teach in the tutorial in our own seperate projects for different uses.

In 24:22 you could use Transform Location function instead of Transform Direction so you could skip adding a result of a function to actor location because it would be already in a right location in a world space. Less nodes = better code.

For anyone sturgling with projectile not moving: - there is probably something wrong with collision of those: BP_GrappleHook.StaticMesh, PlayerCharacter.CapsuleComponent, other collision component inside of PlayerCharacter (such as CharacterMesh) - make sure that your BP_GrappleHook.StaticMesh collision preset is set to 'IgnoreOnlyPawn' - make sure that your PlayerCharacter.CapsuleComponent collision preset is set to 'Pawn' - make sure that any of other collision component inside of PlayerCharacter (such as CharacterMesh) is set to 'Pawn' or 'NoCollision' preset For me it was wrong collision preset on PlayerCharacter.CharacterMesh from third person template. After changing it, everything works fine on UE 5.0.0 Preview :)

Thanks for the interesting and helpful video! How to implement the mechanics of the combat system from the game Darksiders III = Spikes of Contempt (Interested in the undulating movement of the whip). or Devil May Cry 2013 = Dante's whip, or god of war III = Blades of Chaos? I guess what can be implemented through: a guide curve Unreal Engine 4 Blueprint - Spline Spline?

Hey, amazing tutorial, just one thing im trying to tweak here.. Im propeling towards a hook in one direction, then if i shoot a hook in the opposite direction, i want to still maintain some of that momentum from before rather than losing all of it.... It seems to be something with t he ''To Grapple Hook'' Macro. Anyone has any idea how to let my character swing more than thrust towards the hooks instantly?

HI everyone, Im inside the GrappleComponent, but there is no sighn of the My Blueprints Tab, only the details show up, any ideas?

For some reason when I click 'E', the hook spawns but moves very slowly in a direction that wasnt the way I clicked towards. I tried incresing the speed and also made sure the collisions were corrext (Ignore only pawn) but it still doesnt work. Any help, cheer!

For anyone in 4.27 that have trouble with the sphere not moving you have to change the sphere used for the static mesh the "merged sphere" doesn't work for me

Hey, I'm currently learning how to work with blueprints in UE5 and this tutorial has been very helpful - thanks a lot!! One small question though. Assuming that you would also like to implement a mechanic where you could pull certain objects towards you (for instance a cube with physics) instead of being pulled towards them all the time - how would you do it?

@@ReidsChannel thank you for answering so fast. I noticed you already had a grappling hook tutorial thats older than this one, so is that other one more indicated for a TPS and you made this only for fps, or is this one better overall, even for a tps?

@@arlonfelipe91 Theyre both pretty different. This one doesnt require specific grapple targets where as the other one does. Either one would work in first or third person with a little tweaking so just depends what you want.

I'm currently working on this in Unreal 5.0.3 but the HUD isn't something I can open Is there a tutorial on how to make the HUD? Or how to open it?

If any one is having issues with this, you can easily make your own HUD. Create NewBlueprint > AllClasses > HUD, name it what you want. Open that up, create an EventReceiveDrawHUD node in the event graph. Drag off of that and create a DrawTexture node. Add a crosshair texture in the texture dropdown and then fill in the stuff you see in this video (Screen X, Y, W, H, TextureUWidth, VHeight). Then make sure that you go to back to your map and go to WorldSettings and change the drop down for HUD to what ever you named your new HUD.

Hey man! I'm having issues with the Grapple Projectile, it isn't stopping at collisions by default as yours is, and then when I finally fixed that it wouldn't ignore the player regardless of any of the collision settings telling it to, any ideas?

Hey, its got to be something with the collision settings... but beyond that I couldn't really tell you. Look at both the projectiles collision settings and the players collision settings. Make sure they are both set to either ignore or overlap each other. If either it set to block then the projectile will get stuck

I know I'm responding a month late, but for anyone having the same issue just drag your static mesh onto your default scene root. That solved it for me.

@@fjt7834 if you open your grapple projectile blueprint on the top left side you will have all your components listed under your default scene root. Just take whatever your mesh is listed as and drag it on the root. It will remove your "default scene root" and replace it with your mesh. Hope that helps.
