It's just staggering how Epic effectively trying to destroy their legacy and alienate their most loyal fans. I can't imagine anyone being more loyal that those folks who keep Unreal running for decades... despite being consistently dumped on by the company. I guess, it's the death of the artist scenario - Unreal lives because the community fights against Unreal's creators so it could live again.

NOTE: The master server and login system is NOT part of UT4UU. Timiimit is working on both of these projects, but they are both separate "mods" that you can install to restore online functionality (master server) and improve quality of life and add extra features to the game (UT4UU).

yes! However Timiimit said that UT4UU will not be distributing the base game because of legal reasons. For the moment, I've shared a download link for the standalone game in this video's description. If epic gets fussy about it, then I guess we will have to resort to peer to peer sharing of the game files

@@Jwellsuhhuh When I heard the announcement of the shutdown of UT4, I took the time to upload the latest binaries of the game on the Internet Archive, including the clients for all systems (Windows, MacOS, and Linux), as well as the dedicated servers for Windows & Linux. If you're not using ut4uu, just launch the game from a shortcut with the launch parameters and click the play offline button when the login page appears. If using ut4uu, just launch game and click [offline account] when it shows the accounts screen

Why need login and all that jazz? Why not make a server browser that is decentralized? Like the LAN listen server and dedicated server hosting from home, like we had back in the days? Technology seems to be taking a step backwards, in favor or spying on people, data collection, and centralizing everything behind logins and paywalls. If you’re just playing offline, with ut4uu you can select [offline account] and then click the “toggle default” button so every time you launch the game you’ll go straight in without needing to click anything

Make sure everyone saves their favorite servers. People are working on fixes to still get in. I learned in UT2004 that you can open the game, then hit ~ and type open (then type the full server address with the :and extra ending" It opens without them. And also search this "New UT2004 Master Server Through OpenSpy" So we may be ok mostly. I have several in my clan that work in computers for a living so we are confident we can get there. I get it to a point as there are very few servers left, especially for casual gamers. But they need to keep the pubs accessible.

UT3 is getting rereleased, but chances are nothing is changing except adding their EOS. The probability of UT5 getting released is next to none and has always been next to none ever since UT4 has been abandoned.

@@Jwellsuhhuh That's not entirely true. UT4 getting finished was obviously tanked because of how they limited the community devs in the early days and cherry picked who was going to run the show. It was awful trying to get a code addition at the time. Everyone was arguing about what should be standard and Epic themselves did some work but may as well have done all of it. When they took the devs to Fortnite it was meant to be temporary but Fortnite took off way bigger than they expected so the devs never returned. The Lyra project was made for just this purpose. Epic wrote the framework and we are meant to collab to get the end results. The only difference this time is the UT project isn't going to be a public one like last time. That was technically a (half) disaster. If someone built a solid Lyra gameplay ability plugin that did the UT5 game justice, Epic would be all over it, throwing money at whoever startred it.

How many people are still playing? I played UT4 from day 1. I played off and on for a few years and the player count was always very low. I can't imagine there's more than 20 or so players a day now. There's prolly still more UT99 players than UT4 players. This game was a disaster from the beginning. Let it die.

I wouldn't blame the developers; its a business decision. There probably just wasn't enough money coming in from UT to sustain its costs. I'm not sure why its being delisted, though. The same thing happened with Paragon a few years ago, despite it having bot lobbies. Maybe they just don't want to have a partial game listed? I can see legal issues surrounding false advertising there, even if they put up a notice. And I'd also imagine they wouldn't want players who have seen videos of online play to miss the notice when getting the game and feeling scammed.

Let's start with the fact that this game - UT4 should never be called an unrealtournament ... first of all: this is alpha, so it is practically not full game and probably never will ... secondly: this alpha was just to show another unreal engine, the epic graphics engine ... because that's what epic games specializes in. Sale of a new engine and every now and then a new game that collects coconuts and promotes a new engine. third: the only thing this game has or has nothing to do with the unrealtournament series is: - that this alpha was made by epic games studio, but with a completely different composition of people and with completely different priorities than the legendary, unique and true unrealtournament 1999 was created. - the only thing that in this alpha game resembles a real unreal tournament, is the appearance of two weapons: shock rifle and flack cannon, the appearance itself ... unfortunately, this is the end of what this game has in itself from a real UT. - the movement and physics of the game is a mix of ut with quake ... the desire to make an FPS that will attract people to this type of game ≈ FAIL. - skins look tragic, no UT climate, another mix. The appearance of the characters is partly bf3, bf4, FORTNIGHT and new cods + like something from quake and UT ≈ a tragedy. - maps are just a new clean unreal engine with no textures ... a failure. - AFTER you look closely, EPIC is not a quake id software company, not even a counter strike or starcractf 2 (games that count in esports and have roots !!) that know what roots are through it is the preservation of the climate, the physics from the original, companies that know how to care for these roots for over 20 years, without changing the gameplay, climate, game physics and the appearance itself ... adding only delicate changes, keeping the whole shape. EPIC has no idea about that .... EPIC is another engine, more changes, no climate support, just new options, new games. - if someone takes a closer look, the next versions of the game UT2003 (it was like alpha to ut2k4), UT2004 after UT99, THIS is a show of new engine capabilities with a gentle climate behavior, but the physics and the gameplay itself are completely different, similar to, but different from the original, overall behavior of the game. - UT3 beautifully shows what I wrote about, UT3 is "gears of war" ... of war, a new engine sold on gears and by the way they made UT3 (and so much), which in terms of climate, appearance and again the physics differ from the original (although game physics, movement most reminiscent of the original 1999). EPIC is a money-making machine and, above all, for selling its unreal engine - graphics engine. Reflecting how the game was treated, the company's icon, UT4 ... the prealpha has been completely abandoned and left for FORTNIGHT (or as they say), which brings coconuts. Therefore, never, never after so many years, EPIC should not call this alpha version this way, because it only shows what hypocrites they are and how much CASHHHH matters to them. Because it is enough to make a remake of UT 1999, pimp the graph, strengthen the atmosphere of the real UT, add some cool frills and the title will defend itself, the money will also be ... but why ... if it can be otherwise ... But epic uses the UT title as it did in the past to promote its engine and ok, they have every right to do so ... For me it is hypocrisy, stubbornness and the pursuit of money, also ok .... why not Where they are so blind that they cannot see the solutions that they have right under their noses, in front of their eyes. After a while my summary is that ut4 is not gonna really work out. Since weeks if you want to play you have only one server with elimination and one smaller with blitz. Nobody plays normal games. I think most players saw this and moved back to ut2004/3 because its mechanically superior in every aspect and the biggest communitywise. Ut4 had a future . Its the perspective of getting a full new release and the " were still working on it so the design choices are not final, we can fix things" status no longer applies, theres no hope for it.
