Did you say Snow Speeder? Speaking of the Blockade Runner. If they had continued with the Micro Collection play sets, I would have loved them to create an interior of the Blockade Runner where you have the rebels fighting the imperials as Leia hid and Artoo and Threepio fled to the escape pod.

The vehicle with tank treads (7:30) looks like the description of a vehicle stolen by Luke and Leia in the book Splinter of the Minds Eye published in 1978. It is likely that the Kenner designers got the inspiration for this vehicle from the book.

I was thinking more about what other rare unreleased toys are out there. Well, I think I might have the holiest grail of all. I live in Cincinnati, where I'm sure you know Kenner was based. When I was very young, I remember a local news story about a girl who was told Star Wars toys are for boys from a store.. Kenner heard about this, and gave the girl a one of a kind at-at/walker that actually moved. They featured her on the news and showed the at-at/walker they gave her that mechanically moved. Go find that story or even better, the toy. If it exists today, it has to be the rarest Star Wars collectible ever.

I think the Death Star game may have been an electronic LED game, similar to some of the other handheld electronic games released by other companies. I could be wrong though.
@martok2112
@martok2112 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on that. I think it would've been some kind of LED display with a few imprints of an enemy fighter that you shoot at as you race down a shoddily animated trench. After you shoot a few down, you make the shot that destroys the Death Star. That's how I envisioned it when it was shown here.

I live in Cincinnati and my cousin worked at Kenner. I had prototypes and unreleased items. I took my collection to a friends house to play right when I was growing out of Star Wars. I left everything at his house and never picked them back up. My guess is a lot of prototypes reside in Rumpke dump.

Hello, Junkman! That 'Hoth Tow Truck' looks very much like a cut-down Battlestar Galactica 'Land Ram', to my eyes, and it is also like the crawler vehicle featured in the novel 'Splinter Of The Mind's Eye'. The 'Death Star Battle' game would have been cool to have, as it's casing is in the shape of a Hoth Rebel soldier's Macro Binoculars. Even if it didn't work, it'd still be cool to own because of that.

The stuff that projected onto the walls was likely not made because fisher price landed the movie projecting toys (licensing) like the hand held “movie viewer” and the mechanical “movie viewer projector”. These were cartridges with about 45 seconds of movie to show. Fisher price also got the rights to still image viewer projectors under the “view master” brand. They had all the good licenses like Disney and pop culture licenses.
@RockandrollNegro
@RockandrollNegro 3 жыл бұрын
The Death Star Battle viewer was similar to a viewfinder, except it was backlit. It took two nightlight bulbs (one on the left, one right). It had a built in roll of film that rotated via a winding disk. You could wind it slow and view individual frames, or you could rotate it quickly and it played like a movie (no sound of course.) The interior was molded plastic that sort of looked like the inside of a spaceship, so it kind of looked like you were watching a theatre screen inside of an AT-AT, if that makes any sense. The basic design had been around since the sixties and you could buy variations of it in the back of Famous Monsters magazine. I had one that was The Creature From The Black Lagoon, and it was basically a three second clip of him climbing out of the water. I think there were 12 individual frames. Mine wasn't backlit, so you had to be standing in front of a lamp to watch it. It was cool for about five minutes, but the Star Wars model was created at the time when home video was making things like that obsolete, so I can see why it was cancelled.

And still are to this day. All nieces. Anyway I’ve just started watching your channel and love how u explain how u played with toys and going over kids houses. Brings back memories. Didn’t want to write one huge reply. But I remember going over my mom and dads friends house they had a son Mark Ns although not blood cousin like I explained earlier he was family. Close friends our parents where. But he had the Millennium Falcon and a X-wing. I remember he told me his dad took the X-wing to work and was able to remove the R2-D2 cap fake head in the back and cut out that area and such so his real R2 could go inside the back. I said cool. Because I never saw what it looked like before hand. But man thinking back on it now they should of made it that way. But I get it some kids might not have the money for R2 so having it look like he was there is the best for kids

I dig your vids and the southern accent (which I'm sure you don't think you have) is awesome. Funny, how, the name C-3PO was shortend in the film to "3PO or Threepio", and most put the emphasis on the "C" (or "Three") when saying his name. But you put the emphasis on the "PO". It's not hate mail, just intriguing.

I have seen these in the dvd documentary Plastic Galaxy: The Story of the Star Wars Toys. The former Kenner designers also shown different design ideas that were not used in the movies, like a Darth Vader pencil sharpener, a TIE fighter sound F/X for your bicycle, R2-D2 gumball machine, etc. You should watch this dvd. It also shows prototypes, history of the lightsaber and rise and fall of the original micro collection line

Great video and fun information on unreleased stuff! I wonder if they used the molds from this to make the later POTF FX Corvette Blockade Runner from 1996. It is almost big enough to stick a figure or 2 in it, if the space was made. And though not Kenner, Hasbro did make the later Animated Boba Fett from the Holiday Special in the 30th Anniversary figure line.

Furthermore, if they wanted to do something amazing, and wanted to make some money, make a Build-a-Ship set of those cardboard sets like they made for Solo. Drop in a couple 5 POA figures, goofy backdrop. But it includes a huge piece of a ship you want. A $45 price tag doesn't look that bad, now does it?? Hell, even add more cardboard inserts so the "kid" can build a new Death Star. A Death Star and a vehicle???? My mind is reeling!!

Even if the Holiday Special figures had been released as a limited edition-only item by Kenner in either 1978 or 1979, kids in the late-1970s would've been disappointed as they were nothing more than just blatant modifications to the existing Chewie figure, and they would've sucked anyways. (10:32)

HA HA HA! Dude, love the intro! Well done! Since I was a youngling, the Tantive IV/Corellian Corvette/Blockade Runner/Princess Leia's starship has been my favorite ship in the SWU. I would've killed to have that blockade runner toy, even if it did have the swing out sensor dish to put an action figure in. The closest I ever got to having a Tantive IV toy as a kid was when they released the die cast miniature Star Destroyer, which held an even mini-er miniature of the Tantive IV (which was just a white piece of plastic vaguely shaped like Princess Leia's ship.) Of course, now, I have several miniatures of the Tantive IV in various sizes....so...childhood dream come true. 😀 Keep up the great work, Junkman. May the Work Force Be With You.

Some incorrect information here. You might want to do some fact checking. The vehicles you looked at were not intended for 1980 or 1984 but they were actually intended for a 1987 line that would continue the Star Wars story however lucasfilm didn’t want Kenner making their own stories so it was vetoed.

The snowspeeder tow tank was at for 1980/1981. At least according to Kenner documents. Also this why we only see series 1 and 2 toys on it for display. The Blockade runner was designed in 1983 for a 1984 release and not for the 1987. I did a video on the line for 1987 if you like to know more.
