having a wrecked 2004 Subaru wrx i have never had a problem with the engine and it starts up perfectly all the time, it even passed a compression test with flying colors, so i guess people just dont wanna take care of their subarus

In my personal experience and opinion the CVT really isn’t all that bad I have a 2012 Altima with 420,000 miles a 2018 pathfinder with 297,000 miles and a 2020 Altima with 120,000 miles. Yes I travel a lot from New York to California and back and no I don’t take it easy on the cars I drive them decently hard and I have never had any issues with any of the CVT’s. They are all still on original CVT’s I always keep up with every cars maintenance and change the CVT fluid every 60,000 miles. Who knows I might of just gotten lucky with the right CVT’s lol

Ford Focus and Fiesta are DCT, not CVT. It's a dry clutch system and the common failure point is the TCM, not the gearbox itself.

I own a 2014 Audi A4 2.0T. Just before 80K I did the timing chains, ditched the plastic water pump for aluminum, cleaned the valves and got a better cam follower for the HPFP. Soon after a #2 fuel injector clogged which caused that cylinder to go lean and ended up burning through an exhaust valve. The car is tuned! So after pulling the head, getting a valve seat replaced I put 2 new exhaust valves and sent the injectors in for cleaning and the car runs great! It's also an oil burner... But I also have an 01 Audi A4 1.8T that I'd rather drive.

Sounds about right... As much as they can be a pain, we've owned 3 different B8s with the 2.0, and a couple of GTIs with the same drivetrain. Sorry to hear about the burnt valves that's a bummer! But, if you're willing to put the time, money, and energy into the 2.0l they can be reliable and fun to drive! Thanks for watching.

I have an ‘09 Paid off Nissan Fairlady Z/370Z. Bought it back in 2014 for $22K with 22K miles on it. I love the car and by the grace of god it still runs fine and is paid off. When the new Z finally came out I gradually became interested, until I saw the price. I’m not sure if it’s just be not factoring in inflation, considering the 350Z platform came out in 2003 and the 370 in 2009, but I feel like even in 2023, a Z with a price tag of $50-60K is wild. I mean the Z came out to give Nissan customers an affordable performance option that doesn’t cost as much as a GT-R. Now a Z is in new M range and these are the lower trims, not even including the Nismo turn that JUST released. Am I missing something here? I think the new Z is sick, maybe somewhat with a bit bias as a Z owner myself but I’m good if I’m gonna have to drop $50-60K for a Z. But maybe I just need to wait or make more money lol

If you want to get a VW, get a mk5 or mk6 with a 5 cylinder 2.5L engine. This engine is one of the most reliable engine made by vw. Also they sound pretty cool!

My '03 Subaru Forester with a manuel transmission was a great car and the only problem I had was the fuel pump going out. However, at around 115,000 miles, it began to leak oil. The problem was diagnosed as rear main seals needing to be replaced. The car was totaled in an accident and when I went to replace it, the CVT was the only transmission option. No, thanks.

The ford focus never had a cvt transmission it was a duel clutch transmission which was worse then a cvt my uncle had one and it gave him nothing but problems even replaced the transmission out of his own pocket I am just so surprised you guys got the Focus/yester wrong🤨

Very nice listing. Since all my cars (save one) have been manual, and I needed a light duty truck. In 2017, I picked up an 07 F150 5spd, with the 4.2l V6. It had an oil leak and 150k mi on the odo. Its almost at 200k mi today. I resealed the oilpan to fix the oil leak, which only needed a crossmember removed to do. Aside from the insturment cluster needing repair, and the clutch slave cylinder going out (slave cylinders inside the bell housing are cancer), its been a great truck with minimal issues. It does have a slight rocker arm tick, but this is pretry normal for an engine with 194k mi. Other maintenance included cleaning the throttle body to solve a stalling problem when approaching stop signs, and replacing a 5yr old battery, combined with regular fluid changes. The A/C went out, but this is pretty normal for any car over 150k mi. Its on my to-do list to fix, but a pesky miata has been a higher priority as of late. Unless the timing chain is on a pushrod engine, you're asking for trouble. I prefer a timing belt with a non-interference engine, over a chain for most V-shaped OHC engines. The cheap plastic chain guides and chain stretch, mixed with sealed chain covers, makes for a messy combination I've always avoided. While replacing a miata timing belt is a bit of a bear, its still far easier than doing the same job on other vehicles with larger, more complicated engines. The timing chain in my truck probably could use a replacement, but I'm of the "if its not broke, dont fix it" mentality. Too much human error involved to "fix" something that isn't broken. As for the early 2000s subarus, this is the same report I've heard as well. Between the opposed pistons, dual heads for a 4cyl, oil starvation, and overheating issues, the boxer engine, like the wankel engine, is just a powerplant I haven't ever felt the need to abuse myself by owning. Although, somehow I get the impression that the dorito, albeit less reliable, might be far easier to work on. But I haven't had the opportunity to tear into one yet. I gave up on most GM products in the late 90s. If its not a duramax, LS, vortec, or a 350 engine, I haven't really wasted my time. Between the 3cyl geo metro, the sonic, the lumina, the v6 FWD montecarlo, and the cavalier, they've all been cheap transportation that do not fair well beyond 100k mi. Don't get me started on the equinox. So yeah, GM is usually a no-go for me. An honerable mention I would add to this list is the PT Cruiser. I hated its unreliability before. Then I watched someone remove the valve cover to do a smoke test. Someone kill me if I had to do that. What a poorly designed complete piece of garbage. It takes you 30min to an hour just to pull a valve cover. Just because of everything sitting on top of it. I'm sorry, but that car is aids. Besides a very few exceptions, I don't usually go for the factory turbo approach. Its usually a gas-savings gimmick anyway. Instead of dropping a 4.0 NA V6 in a 4k lb SUV, it will have a 2.0l I4 with a 20mm turbo. The HP output is typically less, or matched with the powerplant the manufacturer normally would have dropped in it. Therefore, unless you're looking at a premium performance vehicle, factory turbos are typically a waste of time. A turbocharged I4 silverado is not a performance package. Just like the mustang echoboost. What you end up with is more headache for no added bonuses. The best way to get a turbo on a car (unless its a literal performance option, like the STi) is to add one to an NA. For instance, adding a turbo and 10psi to an SOHC D16 vtech from an EG civic. PWR is probably the factor to consider when looking at some of these factory turbo vehicles. Performance overhead is usually pretty well maxed out from factory on a lot of them. A prime example is the Acura RDX with a K20 pushing 20psi, while making only 272hp at 4,015lbs. Meanwhile, the 08 MDX, 4,597lbs, had a 3.7l V6 pushing 300hp. You also have a towing capacity of 1,500lbs with the RDX and 5,000lbs with the MDX. Clearly, the MDX has more power gain overhead, while the RDX is close to being maxed out. Especially on pumpgas. A 20psi K20 is win in an S2K, not so much in a compact SUV. Overall, I completely agree with this list, hope to see more. Cheers

PT cruisers aren't that bad. Yes the intake flops over the valve cover. It's not that bad of a job. I agree with you on most FWD GM cars with the exception of the 3800 v6. I have a 89 T-bird SC with a 4.2 crank. There are double roller timing chains out there that'll fit your truck if you want. Also you have the split port heads. Lots of guys put those heads on the SC block throw a turbo on them.

@@Turshin To go from a miata, or civic to a PT cruiser, is like shooting yourself the foot. I'm sure its as reliable as most any other GM product, just not ideal by any stretch. Think about it, to change the spark plugs, you have to pull the intake, thus needing a new intake gasket. Whereas, on a miata/civic, you just open the hood and pull the plug wires. A plug job on a Chevy Express is easier. The PT crusier reminds me of the 2k I4 ford ranger. 8 spark plugs for 4 pistons where you need a UV joint and several extensions to pull the plugs. Hard pass. That's cool about the head and timing chain. Maybe in the distant future I might turbo it. However, I already have a 2k miata that's my project car. I just got it back together after 4mo of wrangling with the engine. I ended up rebuilding the whole thing. It's turbocharged at 17psi and 295hp. After breaking in the engine, I plan to head back to the tuner to try and break that 300hp barrier. Upgrades include 85lb supertech valve springs and Carillo 9:1 forged pistons. I already had H-beam rods. I also replaced the intake with a Skunk2 and had to replace all the lifter shims to get the valve lash within tolerance. Its been out of commission for so long that the city summoned me to court for having a "junk car" in my driveway. My friend suggested I do doughnuts in the courthouse parking lot as a way to disprove the claim. Its a tempting offer to say the least.

Ok guys, since posting this reply, I had the opportunity to actually witness an RX8 engine teardown. Here is my impression: NO. Just no. I would rather rebuild a boxer 3x than own a rotary. Besides high RPM, I do not see the appeal... at all. Oil injectors, a wiring harness from hell, mixed with 6 fuel injectors, a cursed EGR system, and oil and fuel lines sprawled over the engine like a black widows web. The bitter cold weather will dry-rot all that rubber so fast. Add to all of this that the engine needs a rebuild every 100k mi. If that wasn't bad enough, there's one huge nut securing the flywheel, the whole engine is held together with a series of bolts which secure the housings from the back of the engine. Additionally, you need the strength of the hulk to remove the crank bolt on the front of the engine. So no, with all my complaints about the boxer, it is a dream to work on compared to a rotary. Just stay away, or watch an engine teardown first before buying. Also, fun fact. Not all shops actually work on rotaries. For those of you who don't like getting your hands dirty, keep that in mind. If I got my hands on one of these cars, I would LS swap it, lol. Cheers.

Got a good one about Maserati. Several years ago, the landlord at our vacation rental had a Quattroporte. When I asked him how he liked it, he launched into a sob story about how the tranny crapped out at 10000 miles (note that there's no error on the decimal point. 10K is the right number). Basically, it was just broken in. But there's more. When he contacted the dealer to get it fixed at company expense, he was told "These cars are handmade, so it's expected that the customer pays for needed repairs. Are you having difficulty affording the car"? Yes, they are that insolent. I understand that Ferrari treats their customers in a similar fashion. Must be an Italian thing. Charge people up the ass for an extremely unreliable car and then treat them like the lowest form of dirt when they get upset about getting hosed. My son's Jonesing for an Alfa Romeo. I tell him he needs to get his head examined.

@isodorwilliams5999 if it has the Gen 3 engine, that solved a lot of the common issues. my buddy has a 2014 Jetta GLI with the 3rd Gen EA888 (same as my engine), so it's entirely possible they put the 3rd Gen in the '15 S3

This is about 2.0 gasoline (tsi) VW's, these are problematic, same goes for some earlier 1.8's TSI's and turbocharged 1.4's.

2.0 tsi's were a problem to a certain of facelift generation. The Diesels are heaven on earth based on reliability. So anything that is a EA288 Evo or just general 3.0 TDi's with more than 204hp or 4,2 Litre V8 Diesels from VAG (if DPF removed) hold up for ages as long as they are maintained properly.

1.When it comes to jdm vehicles america is way behind due to import rules so therefor the research and devolopment isnt there from a tech point. 2. America has lower octane fuel which can cause detonation and engine knock. Have you ever thought maybe the issue isnt the cars, maybe its americas rules, regulations and standards?

I have a B5 Audi A4 with 186.000 miles on it which I bought for 850€. The thing hasn't given me a single problem since I bought it and the build quality is awesome. Best part is, if the engine just decides to suddenly self destruct (which it won't), I can just go and buy another car entirely 😂 Germany really did overengineer the crap out of theur cars back in the day...

@@christopherscott8272 Well they are both diesel engines from Ford that have serious problems. The 6.0 blows head gaskets and the 6.4 has some other problems that are more serious that idk too much about. The 6.0 is the better of the two because it's fixable, the 6.4 is unfixable
