Nail tools are good too: very cheap dotting tools, nail jewels, stamp plates.... Sometimes I use nail scissors, dipped in baby powder to cut clay, when I want to pick it up and trim it with both hands.Thank you for the great video! :)

You can cut a piece of foam sheet that fits snuggly in the bottom of the mitre box to keep your ruler from sliding all over. Notice also the slots in the mitre box are 2 to 3mm wide be sure to hold your blade against the same side of the slot to get a uniform cut.

I found that soap stamps make wonderful mica shift! they are rather hard rubber and carved deep enough for a great shave off the clay. Also, they don't usually have "fussy" designs so they show the technique quite clearly.

The first time I viewed this video I attempted to post a comment, somehow it is floating somewhere in cyberspace. Trying again. First and foremost - you are lovely. Viewing your smiling face is a good thing. Your skin is flawless! To date I cannot see any wrinkles. Kudos to you!! Add to that your endearing personality and great sense-of-humor - it is a win-win for your viewers. I know your tutorials will not only inspire me they always make me smile. That, dear Val, is a true gift - as are you. When I first started working with polymer clay I dropped by a nearby discount hair and nail supply business. I purchased quite a few nail tools that translate easily into both clay and jewelry making. I swear, they are anywhere from 50%-80% less than in local craft stores. Quite a few were comparable to those on eBay. Of course most of the items in the discount store were from the Far East so it is logical.I do enjoy all your videos but I admit I repeatedly view the ones related to polymer clay. While packing to move I am on a self-imposed break from crafts. It seems I craft vicariously through your videos. I use it for motivation to pack faster.

@merryclicker 7 жыл бұрын
Which false spring? We've had so many this winter!!! I hate winter, and will be moving (finally) out of the state to warmer temps in VA in the next few months. But very few states can equal the gorgeous fall (maybe Vermont...) that Michigan has. Ali Express is also a good place to find everything you ever wanted for clay (and other crafts) but the prices are too good, you'll want too many things!!!
@grittykitty50

You will love Virginia. Fall there is pretty darn nice and winter is basically just an appetizer. I have checked out Ali Express and have several things on my wishlist. They are a good source for silicone texture plates and molds. I'm getting ready to place my order with Walmart for the leather cutters. Good Luck to you and happy claying.

Love this video, here is another idea I use. Those cheap little suncatcher kits for kids, they do need a release I just use water, but they make great impressions and they come in so many cute designs. I have to mention if anyone has a Christmas Tree store in their area, I got those cake tools for 3.99 for like 8 of them like in the beginning of this video. Also Hobby Lobby sells those white plastic plunger cutters 3-5 per package for 3.99. They also sell the pink silicone cake decorating mats at Hobby Lobby ranging $6-9.00. I also will look around my house, ashtrays picture frames with impressed edges, heck I stick my clay on almost anything to see how it would work. I even get a ton of stuff from the thrift stores I picked up a pack of about 50 wood mounted rubber stamps for 2.00 and because I also use dominos for alcohol inks and crafting I picked up a bucket full at the thrift store, same quality ones they sell for 20.00 in the game section at toys are us, I bought for 2.00 as well and the bucket had over 500 large white, smooth dominos in it. I stop in about every other week and can usually get about 3 bags, or buckets of stuff to use with clay for less then 15-20.00, and that is on the high end. I am learning a lot from you, and really enjoying all your videos. Thanks again for sharing!

I love it! You had so many ideas. Once you use it with the polymer clay can you use it for original hobby ( like leather tools on leather or stamp with ink). Also do you have a video making something with a stamp? I used to sell them and have sheets upon sheets on stamps I never use in card making.
@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 7 жыл бұрын
Laura May Once things have been used with polymer clay they are not suitable to use with food. I use the stamps with ink though, I just clean them with a baby wipe after claying (so far so good). I don't know about leather but my thoughts are that if the tools were wiped thoroughly it should be ok... good question! Maybe someone will see this and help... I use stamps in a few of my vids - like the mica shift (faux holographic) one and the faux ceramic one. Just spritz them with water and press them on really! xx

@grittykitty50

You could just buy a few blocks of clay and a few essential tools like the blade cutter and play around. The great thing about polymer clay is that it is cheap and you get almost instant gratification. Your local Salvation Army or Goodwill are good sources for rollers, buttons, texture makers etc. And don't forget your local army surplus store. So, when you occasionally get bored with sewing, you could clay around. I think you would really like it and you could make simple embellishments for your sewing projects like custom buttons and beads.

You mentioned (very briefly) using a heat gun to 'set liquid clay' - I am extremely interested in this. (I was thinking along these lines myself) have you gone into this in any more detail in any of your videos? I am thinking that it might help if you wanted to coat a bracelet in liquid clay. (I tried this just painting it on, but it all slid off before the oven could cure it, of course the bracelet being curved already!) That's why I wondered about partially curing the liquid clay with a heat gun prior to completing the cure in the oven. Is this sort of what you meant? Or was it something else entirely?

Love the leather cutters. With that being said I have no idea where I would put any more tools......hmmmm! Also, have you watched Cindy Leitz's video on the suger veil sheets you have? I've been wanting to try those. They are just beautiful, but I have been really sticking to the "what would I do with that tool" before I buy. Right now I am obsessed with jar houses. I love making small stuff too. What is it now, 11 days until you get hitched? Lucky for me the third time was the charm. My Mom, bless her soul has told me and everyone else that I got the only perfect man that God created......hoping yours is almost as perfect as mine....lol.
