Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G For more donation options, see: Lifeprint.com/donate Thanks! - Dr. Bill

I think this was one of the first times where I felt like all my practicing had come together and understood about 97% of the entire conversation. I'm so encouraged by this. Thank you so much!

I’m an interpreting student and this was a fantastic, low-pressure video to practice my ASL to English skills (with captions off of course). I’d love to see more unscripted content, though I understand captioning takes extra time and effort.

Thanks for the conversational content, really been trying to keep up on the contextual references…and all the years, I am still your student (20+ since Weber State) and enjoy seeing you on this platform. Thanks again Bill!

Always interesting and fun conversation. I was an interpreter for a few years but that was a while back. No one around for me to sign with so watching these unscripted videos is helpful. If anyone gets the chance, watch the movie “ The Sound of Metal” and especially do not miss CODA.

What a fun video --Thanks! I have studied your Lifeprint Lessons 1-60, fingerspelling videos and used your fingerspelling practice application. (No ASL classes, except your Lifeprint videos.) I was able to understand the great majority of this video. This speaks to the effectiveness of your Lifeprint lessons.

Awesome video. Really loved this, and understood pretty much all of it and the small things I missed was able to pick up from other signs so knew what you two were discussing. Thanks for doing a video like this 🤓🙂 PS Didn't know there were CC till after watching the video when I saw that in the comments, so proud of myself for understanding what both of you were talking about 😉

Knowing how you feel about cc on your vids (hehe), I highly appreciate the decision to have them available on this particular vid which I very much enjoyed. The conversation was casual, fun and interesting. I tried not to "cheat", but i did turn them on only to look at them when I didn't understand some new (to me) signs. I'm going to watch it again without the cc to see if I could grasp what I didn't know before. Thank you so much. I don't know the names, but I've seen those lizards before. We used to have a bearded dragon (he was very sweet and funny) and when we'd go buy his live food at the serpentarium they would have a responsibly small variety of reptiles which were always fun to visit. They are entertaining creatures, but quite high maintenance. Last thing, I have to mention having to do with strange food, I unknowingly ate brain tacos, the crunchy rolled up kind (flautas). The story to get to that point is too long, but my brother-in-law's mom made them and offered us. Being hungry, I ate 4, BUT I knew something was suspicious because my sister, BIL, and his mom were smirking and watching me eat. I should have known when no one else was touching them haha. Honestly, it didn't have much flavor, but I did notice the texture was like a very bland, much softer, almost spongey chicken nugget. Haha.

I get why captioning would be so hard and time-consuming so I would never ask for it but I'm so grateful this one exists, it will be so helpful for the learning process and for once I won't miss any conversation, it also helps with memory, seeing signs I forgot and knowing right away what they are, I'm excited for this lesson! P.S I just started reading the book Deaf Utopia by Nyles Dimarco and highly recommend it as a way to learn more about deaf history, and culture and to see what growing up in a deaf family was like from a first-hand perspective, good stuff!

For Anyone Interested I (Also) Highly Recommend a film called ,the Tribe,. Takes place at a school for the deaf. There's Absolutely No Dialogue. Zero music/soundtrack. And Nadda Captions/Subtitles. It's Quite Frankly Grueling to get thru. (It does NOT have a Good Conclusion.). with that said (though) its Exquisite.

I'm a little rusty I haven't really tried too much but I did get a deaf customer the other day which I was able to practice some. Actually understood what she was wanting and able to have a conversation with her and she helped me learn a new sign so that was pretty cool. My problem is my spelling sucks.

From the time that you and Casar record this to the time you post, What is turn around time? Guessing you do this once a week?
@sign-language

Actually this one was back in June of 2021. As an unscripted video it did not use the normal scaffolding of slides and typed notes and so it needed to be captioned. Captioning of ASL videos is laborious (at least until Google comes out with auto captioning of ASL videos similar to how they do with voiced videos) so this video was on hold for a while. To answer your general question though, back when Casar and I were working on these we often met two or three times a week. We produced a total of around 90 (!) videos before I needed to shift gears and start processing the videos as well as focus on a few projects that needed taking care of (because I like to eat and keep the lights on). I have a handful of remaining videos to process (edit, render, add meta data, add a thumbnail) and publish that Casar and I worked on. I'll be rolling those out about once a week --which will take us to summer 2022. Currently I'm (also) in the process of rebuilding my studio, creating additional / new curriculum, and developing plans for my "next" set of endeavors. Warm regards.

It like some I get what's signed and some I don't. When spelling something Im like what does that spell. Just horable with spelling. It like even when I see what the letters are I can't seem to figure it out in my head. My brain is spending to much time converting it. I was helping a deaf customer and understood her but when I wanted to ask her how to sign something, customer, I couldn't spell it right. Never been good at it. She realizes what I was trying to spell and was able to show me the sign for it. They wanted to get someone else to help her but I needed to practice.

There are multiple signs for both of those concepts so you might see someone use a version that overlaps or conflicts. However, to be clear: I don't recommend signing plate using "P" hands. Instead I recommend this version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIbYm6FmnM2ZqbM
