@the_gilded_age_phoenix87172 жыл бұрын
@@rickimhotep1236 It's been a long time since I watched this episode. I believe I read/heard somewhere that Philip was shot. Killers are sometimes selective about those they choose to deep six. The first guy might have been too big/tough/intimidating for him to do away with...or the murderer just liked him for some reason. Heck, he spent the night with that one couple after he offed Philip and slept next to a bunch of easily accessible rifles, but didn't harm them either (even paid them for their hospitality).

@@the_gilded_age_phoenix8717 Good point. So IF he was shot, that means the nut is from Canada, as the cop says "It is illegal for Americans to enter with a firearm", so it wasn't Phillips gun, it was his own. This surfacing of the styrofoam container from out of nowhere, in the middle of the ocean, is nothing else but a divine miracle and intervention. He made it. I was 26 when this happened in 1990, and I regret the others are presumed dead. But I see the survivor as God’s Will, and yet I’m probably wrong due to the other three. Triumph with tragedy. Another memorable episode of “Unsolved Mysteries” is the horror story of the Horicon, Wisconsin demon. And the bunk bed.

Oy the Cassie Nicole. I'll never forget the reenactment (getting chills typing this) when the woman relative who had been getting strange phone calls looks out her kitchen pondering about everything that had transpired following anther abrupt call. Stack's commentary of: "After only a moment, the connection was broken. There have been no calls since. The Niesmiths and the Tysons are convinced that the three missing men were taken aboard the passing freighter, and perhaps transported to a foreign country against their will" That statement combined with the eerie music, and then the photos of the three men against the black granite background UM always used has haunted me all these years. Chills. Damn I wish I knew what happened to them.

is it really likely though, that a passing freighter which must contain a reasonable amount of crew who would all likely be fully aware of the situation that they had 3 american captives would be, for whatever reason, around 20 or so miles off of the coast of georgia with the entire crew except for potentially one guy all in on it, all keeping quiet, all contributing towards their captivity and their.....what? torture? murder? for what reason? because they just dont like americans? i think that the ship mightve seen the debris and taken it aboard, i think its logical that if they found survivors that it would be followed up in some way, because why wouldnt it be? they probably just drowned and i dont blame this guy for hoping for the best, he probably feels responsible, but i think they died shortly after he swam away. i dont think he shouldnt have swam away, he clearly made the right decision or he wouldve been dead too.......but they shouldve gone too, they should have tried

I always loved the Mac McDonald segment. It was a complex situation and I think he was genuinely remorseful about what happened. You can also see it all in the reaction of Helen during the reunion. Her manner of speaking and expression had me feeling that she realized her own mother was right all along about him. His daughter was an incredibly thoughtful and open person about the whole thing.
@rickimhotep12362 жыл бұрын
Old post but you are spot on. As an added though, he had all that money and couldn't find his daughter doesn't sound right. I don't think he tried too much, not sure if he was still scared because of statute of limitations or what but he had the means to find her IF he really wanted to. Sadly when he died there's no mention of his daughter, so maybe it's more complicated than we think. Maybe he was NOT her father after all. It's been done before, who knows.

After watching this episode I wonder how Mac's daughter Sherry and him got along after the show. She seemed to not want him to be part of her life. Although I feel bad for Sherry because she was born into a pretty crazy situation. I looked at Mac's obituary and it didn't mention her. I have a feeling perhaps the two drifted apart after the years. I wonder if the two made peace with each other and that it was an accident that Sherry's name wasn't on there. My own story from 2015: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American. Male. (this IS important, because you have to consider what I LOOK like) Since 2012, Vancouver BC has been my favorite vacation spot. Before the pandemic, once a year, I liked to go out to Kelowna BC, even driving East in Washington State, and driving North through US 97, then driving West back to Vancouver (great scenery). Well, in 2015, I entered at Osoyoos BC, North of Omac, Washington. This time in 2015, I did NOT drive North to Kelowna. Instead, literally one mile North of the border crossing, I went West on BC 3 towards Hope BC, to Vancouver. Well, literally a HALF mile from turning left, West on BC 3, an attractive 16 year old Native American girl stuck out her thumb, asking me for a ride. I didn't stop. I kept driving. How do I know that if I stopped the car, some accomplice hiding behind a tree or rock wasn't going to come in, on cue, and ambush me? How does SHE know that I'M not some "bad scary guy," despite my "harmless nerdy appearance?" No question in my mind, from that moment in 2015, to now, and every moment in between, that I did the right thing, by NOT even THINKING about giving her a ride. Oh Oh!! I have a friend named BJ, who's 5'6", 375 pounds. Back in 1993, I told BJ, "Never ever pick up a hitchhiker!" BJ asked me, "What if she's a hot woman?" Come on BJ, ESPECIALLY hot women! It's a RUSE!

He crossed into an entire different country no where to pin point exactly where he'd be. could be anywhere in the US. Especially after all this time prolly just moved on with this his life like nothing happened. It's obvious it was just a impulse decision to kill him. He couldve gotten a car anywhere definitely killed b4 if you ask me. Only the dumb and unlucky get caught apparently he was neither.

I know Mac was frightened out of his mind but if I were him, I would have stood my ground and fought Mary's mother with everything I had. They can lock me up but there is no way I'd give up on my son/daughter and the mother of my child without a fight. It would have been horrendous to be locked up for the statutory rape charge but that still pales in comparison to living with 40 years of regret and guilt. As for the other stories, the one on Philip Fraser scared me stupid. I've always known that it is generally a very bad idea to pick up hitchhikers and very dangerous but there was something very eerie and unsettling here in this case. As a former medical student (I say former because I graduated eleven years ago and now a resident) myself, I had to travel vast distances with all of my belongings several times so I identify with what Philip was doing although not to the decision he made to pick up that scumbag who killed him.

You could tell Phillips parents were good people. Good parents who wanted the best for their son and raised him right.

She wasn't stupid, but she let things go to far by going in. She knew the situation was not in her favor, but hoping for n opportunity caused her to take a chance. I'm glad she lived through it. I've been in a dangerous situation a couple of times, but was never hurt. Lucky or blessed, IDK.

Man, I remember once I was on a road trip and stopped at a gas station. Guy approaches me I think he said he had been mugged, lost wallet ID everything. Wanted me to give him a ride. He really did seem distraught like he was tired of hearing no from everyone else. I remember him almost crying "Im not a crazy [person]" I dont let ANYONE in my car or house. I turned him down. I thought if that happened to me, I wouldve asked the gas station clerk to call the police so I could report the mugging. I would never ask a stranger for a ride. I tell you man, if he was faking it, he was a helluva actor.

I picked up a completely harmless looking young woman who was hitchhiking. Being a woman also, I didn't want to leave her to be possibly victimized. She turned hostile quickly. She insisted that we had gone to school together and that I had bullied her. I was sweating bullets. Thankfully, we arrived at her apartment building and she exited the vehicle. Though not the first, that was the LAST hitchhiker I ever picked up

@@joannamcpeak7531 See, you learned a valuable lesson. Although most violent attacks are perpetrated by men, it has been scientifically proven study after study that men and women have EQUAL tendencies / ability to become violent - men simply act upon them more. So you, seeing a woman and believing the hype, almost became a victim yourself.
