John still doesn't QUITE understand the challenge. He thinks he has to pick a color on the +4 that he doesn't have, when in reality, it only matters what the color was before he played. But don't tell John that, he believes he's doing it right, and he's still screwing himself in the long-run by picking a color that he doesn't have in his hand.

From what I understand the rule to be, it's that if the person playing the +4 could have played something else, someone can challenge it and they'll win the challenge. If I'm right, I'm surprised that not many people explain it as simply as that.

@@eviale while you are technically correct, many people don't explain it that way because it only counts if the card has the same color, so cards with the same number or wild cards don't count, even if you could have played them

Because they explain it badly. They keep mentioning the color of the card, but it's just "if you could play any card other than +4, then you can get challenged".

I HATE the challenge rule, it removes so much fun from the game. You can’t throw it down whenever you want, you can use it on someone if they’re about to win, and you can’t stack them which is the best.
