They did a very nice kata. Well syncronized and connected. Generally speaking though, the WKF is turning this into alot of flowery techniques with many poses. Also, the "bunkai" has so much flair to it, I'd find it hard to believe anyone could really use it that way for real. No disrespect the ladies, they are competing against others that do it too and the judging rewards this as well. It's very athletic but likely not what the creator of the kata was thinking when he created it.
@DaniescorpKarate12 жыл бұрын
impresionante !!!!
@donoberloh12 жыл бұрын
For what they aspire too, they are pretty good. However, with all teams in this type of competition their focus is more on synchronicity more than the required kata, kime and kamae. Modern Shito ryu generally (even though Mabuni Sensei was Okinawan) has the facet of not punching to center line. IMHO Japanese Karate has evolved (or devolved ) tangentially to the original Okinawan/Chinese roots. All my personal preferences aside, aesthetically they are pretty good at what they aspire to.

You're not going to exchange 7-8 blows with your opponent and try to flip them by pulling on one arm and you're certainley not going to perfom crazy flipping acrobatics to get your opponent on the ground. You're going to punch, sweep, and finish.

I too agree with Airmover, but I think that their motivation and training is not to perform realistic Oyo but a an aesthetic semblance. This reflect or the manner or goals in which their instructor trains them doesn't it.

I know i'll get heat for saying this but whtever. Great kata but not as outstanding as you all say. After the jump the girl on right hand side of main judge was super late and a few stances were a little off. They were also too machine like, too stiff and not enough flowing. Otherwise everything was great. The bunkai demo was too unrealistic and complicated though, in my opinion. Bunkai is supposed to be life like and represent a real life way to use these techniques in the kata. In real life

Not to be disagreeable, but just to disagree. This is not similar to any old school Okinawan Tode/Karate I have seen or trained in. I say old 'school' because the last thirty years or so many Japanese have moved to Okinawa and teach a Japanese version of Karate, dissimilar from Okinawan schools. (note I didn't say Okinawans or Ryukuans) This may be commercially driven, but the history of non-tode (te) instructors teaching Westerners for sustenance is fodder for another thread.
@jesseatkinson749712 жыл бұрын
karate is not "realistic" if all you see is someone pretending to fight when you watch this video. you obviously don't even know what karate is. karate is an exercise that makes the body and mind faster. it doesn't get anymore realistic than that. OSU!

no, YOU are the ignorant here. The only non-sportive karate nowadays is from some (maybe) japanese schools and from almost all the okinawan traditional schools. Wkf totally IS sport karate. Karate shouldn't be about sport and competitions, but has unfortunately become so for a large parte. We're lucky that okinawan karate survived.
@engela210 жыл бұрын
There, you said it. Karate shouldn't be about sport and competitions, and that is because it is not simply a sport. True, it has developed some sport aspects, such as kumite, but to label karate as one thing is ignorant. Unless you have visited and trained in every dojo in the world please do not make vast generalizations about what karate is and how it is taught. A further indication of your ignorance. A true karate-ka would understand that very elementary principle. Clearly you are not one.
