13:54 Yeah, I hear the PTSD thing. My dad was in Vietnam, even received the Bronze Star, and he thinks the only time he could have earned that was when his position was overrun in the night, where he and 2 other guys held their ground in a fox hole until morning when the enemy was finally pushed back enough they could escape. Said it came down to knife fighting, as they ran out of ammo at one point. Only thing he can't handle is gutting, be it fish, deer, or any other game. Everything else he handles just fine, like guns, fireworks, etc... oh, and he won't get in a helicopter unless he absolutely has to, 'cause he saw enough of them go down, and in his words, "They don't gyro slowly down and explode like the movies; they plummet like a rock and mangle the people inside." He just turned 79 in March, btw. Served in 1969-1970. Still spry, healthy, and full faculties. He wants nothing to do with veteran stuff, because he said he was a young man when he was over there, and he's accomplished so much in his life since, particularly raising 3 boys he's extremely proud of, that he doesn't form his identity around his one year of service in a war we had no part being involved. He also told me that instead of mindlessly thanking a veteran for their service with hollow words, the better way to thank a veteran is to live honorably, be truthful, and never vote for a Democrat or commie! 😂

Amazing shows fellas. Fan from Ireland but the fat electrician at 23:03 I'm a registered firearms owner over here in Ireland, Belfast. I have 2 shotguns and 3 rifles, just had to apply for a licence through the police and buy a gun safe for our home. Then a firearms officer comes to visit my home and approved my home to be safe. If you have no criminal record you're basically allowed to purchase any firearm. Also we had the IRA in our country to literally wage war against England and take the fight to them until a peace settlement was reached in 1998 to disarm the IRA so this might be why people assume Ireland is unarmed. Keep up the great work lads.

I think it definitely goes both ways in that people from the UK think you can just walk into a walmart and buy a gun instantly, then people from the US think that the UK has a knife licence. Obviously we know that in the UK and ireland we can own firearms its just a few more hoops to jump through which in my opinion are sensible hoops (to an extent) but you definitely dont need a licence for a chefs knife

Last year or year before in July, height of the Texas Summer, one of the maintenance guys at my job took one of those thermometers that you can point at a surface to read its temp up to the roof and measured the temp up there. It read 180°F.

@the_fat_electrician @donutoperator I know I'm late to the show, but I was in the Navy before the aquaflage and lasted until it was replaced. Everything you said about the N-dubs, Navy Working Uniform, was accurate. However, anyone that has served on a ship knows that your job is primarily a janitor. Those uniforms hid dirt, oil stains, and every color of paint we had on the ship (haze gray, sea foam green, black, high temp silver, and more). Also, I was on submarines, so being overboard was the least of my concerns.

Regarding the Acorn Cop: If I was in the back of that cruiser, I am not sure what color my underwear would be before the acorn, I absolutely know what color it would be after...

I will say my papa is an vietnam war veterran and heads to the coast for the 4th, because the fireworks set him off, he is the epitome of man, stubborn, problem solver, first to put himself in front of others to protect them etc. Not mad at your comments just wanted to remind you all if you veterans went theough differnt battles as such different things set you off. Also just wanted to say i enjoyed the podcast, you all are fun to listen too.

I have a 1 liter Nissan micra K11 It has been rear ended (It suffered a cracked plastic bumper. The car that hit it was totaled), had a shed get smashed into it from a storm and has been driven hundreds of thousands of miles. It has yet to fail MOT.

1:08:02 interesting fact if you ever watch Normandy vets return to boccage. Every single one British or American. Hugs the hedges. They are always up against it. Just out of muscle memory because being in the middle of the road was KIA situation.

The original melody for in the mood dates back to 1930 or earlier. Glenn Miller’s classic recording of it was made in 1939, which means it would have entered the public domain in 1996. Mist opportunity. listen to well thinking about those stats it's a delight.

My grandfather was D-Day + 2 or 3 got wounded & wouldn’t take the golden ticket home because his brother was still fighting. He became a service clerk & cook for a general. Yet still got merits for combat. He died before I was born. My grandma remarried twice. Her 2nd husband survived the Bataan Death March, he was dying of cancer made it for my birthday, he willed himself to make it to my birthday. I was 5 turn 6, I knew he was sick & just wanted my Papa Jack at my birthday. Still my hero. My Grandma remarried again. Was never close to her 3rd husband, he would show up for everything but wasn’t an open person. At his funeral I learned he was a Captain in the Army Air core bomber pilot. Flew his 1st 25 missions & could have gone home. Took another tour his plane was shot down, his crew survived to be taken POWs, & were rescued by Patton before the Battle of the Bulge. A member of his crew told the story at his funeral. That’s just my dad’s side of the family, they were built different & we need to go back to that.
