Not my choice for post frame buildings, but this is exactly how we've been doing foundations/floors for our post and steel frame. It's a great system.

I’ve done concrete work in Wisconsin for 30 yrs and this slab is really great, love the spray foam in the trench, who ever came up with that idea is really smart,we never thought about using that. Should make for a really warm shop with all that foam and in floor heat. Congrats!😊

Thanks for the interesting and informative video Dougo and Chet. The two of you gave us a lot of information to digest. Thanks Dougo for the tour of the bin system. I found that most interesting. I give you credit Dougo for doing the tour of the tops of the bins. Big heights bother me and where you were at was pretty high. Thanks for showing us and explaining the bin system to us. It was most interesting. I think you did great with harvest corn and yes, some spilled but not all that bad. You did good Dougo. Thanks to Chet for explaining his new building site and shed to us. Beautiful site to have by the lake. Thanks for showing us how the building is being built and your hookups and everything. Looks like it is coming along nicely. If you want to add or change items, now is the time Chet. Like that sink you want. Like that porch you are adding to the front of the building. Nice idea. Show us the concrete when that gets done. Thanks for everything Chet and Dougo. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

Several decades ago I worked in a grain elevator. I was just a gofer and sometimes truck driver. But, the millwright had a big board, sort of like an in and out board with sliders on it. He could move sliders to mark all of the gates and then he would make notes about capacity of each been. He always said, what if I'm sick and someone else has to take over. I know I could remember all of the stuff Dougo remembers

I’m with Doug , I also used to like building and did lots but last year I got a builder in and just showed him the site and told him what I wanted, the comfort was unbelievable, at one point he came to me with an issue, I asked him what he was going to do and he said “ we “ had a couple of options, I explained that as far as I was concerned he had a couple of options and that was why he was getting the big bucks. He did a great job and I am delighted but the cost, boy the cost was I have to admit a bit painful, but I didn’t lay any concrete, I didn’t put up or take down any shuttering , I didn’t mullock around any rsj , I didn’t crawl around a roof, I didn’t do any plumbing and I didn’t do any electrical work. The whole thing may have cost way more than it would have if I had done all those things but it was finished on time and on budget and I didn’t lose a minute of sleep or neglect the things that I needed to be doing which was the issue the last time I did a building project. Regards from Ireland

Hi Dougo, that was a very interesting tour of your grain bin storage facility. To people like me that aren't familiar with corn & bean farming it is amazing how all the air pipes, augers & drags work & how you know what to switch on to get the corn to the correct storage bin. It's actually complicated & appears easy to make a mistake or miss a malfunction in the system, especially as mistakes can be quite expensive I imagine. Thanks for sharing your farm with us all it is truly appreciated. 😀

We built our house in 2010-2011. I was the general contractor, so to speak. The only things we hired out for were the concrete work, framing, roofing, plumbing rough-in, and drywall. I don't remember ever having to wait for guys to show up and when they did show up they stayed until the work was done. Today it seems like pulling teeth to get a contractor to come do some work. My guess is that there is a shortage in the workforce so everyone is stretched thin on how much work they can get done in a given season. Add in all the rain we had early this year, which put everyone behind schedule, and you are lucky to get anything done. To me the major hurdle was getting the house weather proof. Once that was done and you didn't have to worry about water getting everywhere you could take your time with all the interior work. We started the house in August so it was easily ready for winter once winter arrived. Chet, I'm hoping your guys can get a roof over that thing before the snow starts flying.

Start a list of camera locations you need to avoid climbing bins. Use that list to create a situation board - a sematic of the bin site on clear plastic laid over a large monitor (home theater size); then have programmed a touch-screen button at each camera location that pops-up the feed from that camera . :) (thinking pipe or leg cutout section covered in glass; point a camera and a light at it; cover it all in a little bird house to keep the weather off)

You said it is a Morton building. My grandparents built a Morton building in the late 70’s early 80’s and it still looks like new. The only thing that went bad is the eaves. You can’t go wrong with a Morton. This is in Pennsylvania. It doesn’t have concrete just a machinery shed. I am sure a lot more money now!

Doug congrats to all you guys on harvest we just finished our tiny 130 ac of corn but to qualify that it took a case 8120 five hrs to do 25 ac. Not lodge just the eay it is in SW Wisconsin Watching doug on the roof of the bin by the double run Could see where the brg is mounted on a slide the space by the bolt i would think would be an issue with driving rain. Maybe a 55gal plastic barrel fitted over the top would help shed heavy rainand yet easy to remove. Shure helped to make our bin auger /motor / brg /belts last a lot longer. Really enjoy your content Please keep it up.

All that foam on exterior side is called “frost protection” This method is becoming a common way to do detached structures and slab on grade homes here in Mn. I have even seen it done up in cabin country where they usually require 60” deep frost footings Morton is Definitely doing a good job.

Remembering the order of filling bins is occasionally an issue, do as pilots do, print a checklist, put it in plastic and hang on the wall.
