When we built our house 23 years ago, i did exactly what you did: i painted and decorated our master bedroom as a surprise while my husband was away on business. I chose a deep sensual red, just as dark as your green. Our bed and my makeup desk are ebony (black), our nightstands and a cabinet is a cream color, and another cabinet and mirror are a warm caramel stain. So, not matchy-matchy, but definitely cohesive. We truly LOVE our bedroom. We have never once regretted the red; it makes our room intimate, sexy, and very calming in a grounded and protective way. It’s like a weighted blanket for our souls. I think once you place decor, linens, etc. that works with the color, you will find it less jarring. Incidentally, i also love the painted trim. We have tray ceilings and i painted the red up the tray part too. If i had to pick one thing to change, it wouldn’t be the depth of the color, but the shade. I think a warmer shade of green would be more harmonious with your existing pieces. But yeah i LOVE the dark color. 🖤 Side note: we’re in Central Florida…we didn’t get much from Debby here on the east coast (other than a couple days of really heavy storms), but friends and family on the west coast got brutalized by the flooding. Glad you made it through ok.

I have to say I am deeply in love with my final product bedroom, so so in love!!! I did love bright and airy for so long and now I want deep and moody. I’m glad you weren’t hit too hard either. I really didn’t know what to expect, just prayed because my flood insurance had lapsed 😱

Like many people commented, lighter rug, bedding and curtains will brighten up the room if that’s what you want. But darkness with subtle lighting will make it cozy I think. Also, I would switch the outlet covers to the brass or oil rubbed bronze, so they do jot stand out as much, especially those that are visible and are on your eye level.

Oh yeah I absolutely want to change out the outlets and all that. But also I want to make my husband do it because he can get the whole thing swapped and not just the plates. The white is not my favorite for sure!

I was so hoping that you would share the bedroom with us today. First I am loving the color. It has definitely grown on me. You keep saying it is so dark in the room so I would suggest some lamps on the night stands. I would also add a small lamp on the bookcase as well as the dresser. You have done a beautiful job in your room. Seat back and enjoy it. You can fine tune it a little at a time.

Really love the color. I think it makes your room cozy. But If it bothers you that it’s so dark, which is at night mostly, then paint your molding white and the trim around the door. Lighting will make a difference and use it everywhere. Light bedding and a rug. You’ll be happy with what you’ve done. And try not to over think things. One more thing, center that bed. Be proud of your accomplishments.

I am so sorry you are stressing and not loving the color. I hope in the end that you decide that you love it; but it you don’t, it’s only paint and though it will be a pain in the behind, it’s a relatively easy fix. Having second thoughts? I did exactly the same thing with my navy blue wall. However, I added a couple of items that pulled my camel colored couch and the brown chairs with the blue wall together. Just a bit of fabric. Oh as I side note, when a storm is approaching, pull up your weather app on your phone, and check the barometric pressure. Depending on your sensitivity level, a drop in barometric pressure will give you a headache - I mean a real boomer. And then you throw hormonal turmoil on top of that? Ew boy, that's a doozy. Your room is beautiful and you're doing a great job. No second-guessing hon, you're a badass!

Geeeez... you're killin me, smalls! I am dying to see the final reveal! It's been years! I love the new furniture, and I'm still loving the moody paint color. I'm no longer allowed to put together furniture by myself after I almost made a Picasso out of our daughter's changing table/crib 13 years ago. I mean.. how's it my fault the instructions do not make sense? And now, apparently, they think words are overrated and they just use pictures. I'm sorry. All screws look alike. How am I supposed to be able tell which screw is A18 vs A12? I'm still giggling over him telling you to maybe just go be sad for a bit. He knows. I am actually off this weekend, and I really want to deep clean and organize my whole house before the kids go back to school (they go back next week) so that *maybe* it will stay that way. Adding lighter but not stark white elements to the space, like bedding, decor (frames/florals), and most definitely curtains would look really great with the green and the bed! I think the bed frame looks really good with the paint. Having the bed, nightstands and large chair on one side and the large corner bookshelve and dresser make the room heavy on both sides while nothing in the center. You could actually move the bed to the opposite end and have privacy by adding a diffusing film to your front door windows, if you did want to go that route however you could definitely try to angle the chair beside the bookshelves and a slim round side table in front of your window so it balances the room out with being in the center. Definitely adding a light color area rug will brighten up the room and bring it all together. XO, MaCenna went so dramatic with a dark room and trim but also painted the ceiling….not sure if you gave that a thought too lol. Another YTer a couple years ago painted her whole room a similar green color and did walls, doors, trims and ceiling 😅

I think you're feeling that's it's super dark because you painted all the trim, I think if you went back in and painted the trim a soft white or cream color, it would help it feel brighter. But I gotta say, you go girl, all that work, by yourself, it's a lot!!! I like the color.

I think it’s to tone of the green against your floors that you’re not liking. I have the same tone of wood in my house and it’s very hard to put anything trendy against it. It changes paint colors or really expensive wallpaper that you just bought. (Me). Grays look purple….greens look murkey. Etc. I know what look you’re going for. The solution would be to do a light area rug. It will brighten up the space. A light oatmeal or linen color area rug under your bed.

Aww, sorry you’re feeling discouraged about the bedroom makeover! I think it’s going to look great. 👍 That room has a huge window and tons of light so it can take a dark colour. I have some suggestions (feel free to ignore, it’s your bedroom after all!) To create more room around your bed, consider getting rid of the side tables and putting up some cool wall sconces where the tables would be (same industrial black style or copper!) for your reading lamps. You can also get some small floating side tables that attach to the wall. I was wondering if your bed would fit up against the wall where your doors are (so like a 90% turn from where it is now). That would create more room in the corner for your new chair. Love the bookshelf!! It’s gonna look great! ❤❤❤

I think the color is beautiful, but if you feel like it's too dark you might consider paiting the trim with a paint that hasca higher light reflective value. Samples usually have the LRV on them. 0 means it reflects no light, 100 reflects loads of it.

It looks like the bookcase is the problem - putting the chair in that corner and having some shelves above the dresser may work better. Think once you have some nice lamps, artwork on the walls and everything decorated it will probably feel less overwhelmingly Dark Green too.

Hey beautiful lady.. when you 1st shared you were painting your bedroom wall green I was so excited because I love green and have been wanting to do an accent wall in my living room that color but (pewter green) I love the color you chose but I honestly didn’t think you’d paint the entire room that color 😩 I thought it was just the wall where the headboard is. That would have been better. It looks so dark and gloomy now and that would make me feel sad and blah.. Again I love the color just not that the entire room is that color. Maybe if the bedroom furniture was lighter it’ll blend in better but it’s still so dark. Looks ok when it’s light out but when it’s night time it’s so dark.. Oh and pov I love your bed!
