* 6 hints / reasons why : Nicole and Mark end up together afterwards : 1) Nicole felt something for Mark = During the last scene :When Nicole arrived in the cafe, She smiled while looking at Mark like she felt that spark! it's definitely for Mark as her date has not arrived yet ,as you can see the "empty chair" in front of her. While waiting, she was gazing at Mark during like 7 seconds straight ! This can't be a coincidence to look at someone for this long! she clearly felt something while seeing Mark. 2) Nicole is interested by Mark = When Mark was calling the waiter, she looked at him during 3 seconds as if mark was more interesting than her date. + she noticed Mark before the waiter. 3) Mark is probably failing his date = during this new date, the girl is playing with her hair, with a plain look as if the date was boring and she doesn't care. (like Jessica) + Mark failed 4 dates already. Perhaps Mark keep failing his date because he is originally destined to Nicole. 4) Nicole is not necessarily on a date = Unlike Mark, it's not confirmed that Nicole is on a romantic date. All we know is that she was happy in the car to meet someone at a cafe but we don't know the purpose. So she might as well be meeting a friend she hasn't seen in a while. 5) The quantum butterfly: Jake and Maria are here together= certainly to cheer for them, helping them to get closer, fulfilling their promise that they will meet again. 6) They are reunited at a cafe named "tadhana" which mean "destiny" = it's not a coincidence as they are soulsmates that were together during 100 lifetimes. They are destined to be together in every timeline, but in this one they had to fix the world, and themselves to be reunited again. Conclusion: Nicole interrested by Mark + Mark failling his date + Nicole not necessarily on a date + the butterfly are here + they are reunited at the destiny cafe = they end up together. (i'm trying to share my own comment everywhere, for the copium )

Sorry Mate, some points make more sense, some not really, at least to me. It's implied to be an open ending, with the narration going in direction of "life is also struggle, and it's beautiful to overcome", with letting things go and enjoying what You have. The whole point of the game was to show how clinging to something is bad and missing life while living that way. It may also be implied they were pushed to each other by their "butterflies" , which worsened the situation with each reset. It may be story about love, that was never meant to happen, and You could still argue that true. But as open as the interpretation is, You may find copium in fact that after all, they lived together for hundreds of lifetimes, no matter how You would argue this specific ending went, they got plenty of eternal opportunities for happiness with each other.

My point is not to convince anyone that it's "the" real ending. I'm just sharing "one" interpretation of that last scene (Sorry if my 1st comment wasn't clear) As it's an open ending, anyone can chose their interpretation. I'm just giving some hints for those who choose to believe that Mark and Nicole might end up together, which is a possibility.

Imagine finding someone(Nicole) who is also experiencing the same as your son's trauma and guilt, interacting with another missing person(Jake) who caused such guilt to the other person changing their lives to meet ASAP to heal and move on, only for them to literally took probably over a 100 resets to finally understand and move on. (Coping theory) I do agree that Mark and Nicole are meant to meet each other, but because of their guilt and regrets, their love ones stepped in to change their Destiny to MEET earlier in their lives to heal, grow, and move on from their guilt. Now everything is okay and the two protagonist are healed, their love ones no longer interfere their Destiny to meet earlier, but instead let Destiny/Tadhana do it's course to meet them somewhere in the future(Coping hard)

I think the universes were ultimately from the perspective of jake and marks mom. Its about them living the same guilt that they could have done better for nicole and mark respectively. The thing is, them manipulating reality from their point of view and making cycles resulted to mark and nicole actually "experiencing" those hundreds of lives, still bearing the same guilt like in the original universe. Jake and marks mom couldn't let go, and this is why they were apologizing in the end. When they let go and trusted in mark and nicole, everything in the original universe continued, and mark and nicole lived great lives despite their loss. The question is, when will they meet again? "Until Then" is the answer because it was not always about the two of them being together and helping each other until reality crumbles, it was also about mark and nicole living their separate lives and overcoming their challenges regardless of meeting. Love doesn't necessarily start from another person, it can also be just from within oneself.

There are some hints that Mark and Nicole could be a thing in the true ending. Let's start with the obvious: "Tadhana Cafe" where they are means "Destiny Cafe", and the two butterflies show up to watch over them.

The true ending is actually quite an open ending. Mark and Nicole dating someone else doesn't mean there's no possibility they can't be together. There's been hints that they might end up. Tadhana cafe itself is called a Fate or Destiny cafe that mean it is meant for them to meet. Who knows maybe they start dating after seeing each other in that cafe and get married again.

I think one bit you missed about the 2nd ending is that unlike the first ending, Cathy went missing meaning for Mark at least there was some hope she might come back even if it was false. In the 1st ending she was definitely dead and nothing could be fixed hence why he could move on. Especially since Louise concluded they were just wrong about the Deja Vu and there was nothing anomalous.

I had gotten so much advertisements about this game, it gave me speculation. So I downloaded the demo and loved the the end of the demo, I decided to watch a walkthrough rather than spending money just to make sure and I absolutely loved it and may spend my money on it later on. As much as I do want to believe this popular coping theory, it is possible that she remembered him because she looked at him, and he was happy with his date and felt good about that date before he went. I feel like it is possible in the 3rd act that it was destiny that they will cross paths, not necessarily end up together unfortunately.

This game was AMAZING!!! Easily the best narrative driven game i've played in years and i LOVE that it took so much inspiration from the butterfly effect films as well because those films are some of my most favs to watch. So many things in this game hit me HARD especially with the message of needing to accept and let go and that u cant get your way with everything in life. Easily 10/10 game IMO.

The story somewhat reminds me of the anime bunny girl senpai an anime that is actually very well written but I would maybe even say that this is better having similar genre's. I feel sorry for those people who only played the first timeline and got spoiled 😂. If the player truly got attached with Cathy on the first timeline, surely they will not accept the 1st ending and probably watch the whole ending credits and probably get to see the continue screen. I think devs did this intentionally which is very masterful

I was a big fan of Mark and Nicole, and while I was happy for Cath and the others, it didn't feel complete without Nicole and Cath being together.. I like to imagine that there's another universe which has parts of all 3 endings, such as Ryan and Sophia being there but Nicole, Mark, Louise also having a better relationship with each other if you get what I mean. Basically, all the good things about each ending connected together to form one best ending, and I like to imagine that exists somewhere in another universe and we're just seeing what happened in some other universe in the true ending.

They didnt die from the ruling, rather died before it happened. They suddenly were able to understand because both of them saw each others stories and connected it to their own life, also in earlier loops (as seen from Loop 1-> Loop 2) their memories didnt carry over preventing proper learning. The game was fun. I enjoyed the story telling, interesting twists, nostalgic with catchy mini games. But the slow burn was not worth it. There were dialogues that were filler and prolonged that I lost interest in the story telling and I had to gather again when the story progresses. A fast forward option and an indicator that I have to move something would be appreciated considering there's a 'select scene' option in the main menu. Anyhow, I'm just happy Louise got herself a happy ending. She's my fave character. The "her research flourished at the cost of her life" would've been poetic. Still, her and Cath deserve best.

I started to play the game but I stopped before the prom before cominghere to watch what happens in the end . It was too slow for my liking. I would prefer if the pase was a bit faster but maybe then we wouldn't get the time to meet and bind with the characters. Still i believe it to be a fail if I reach the point of getting so tired of it. I also disliked the first discussion with luise about her theories for the ruling, that could have been skipped or much shortened since it was merely but an annoying tease (she just wouldn't tell us her actual theory because it wasn't "logical"). I finaly didn't like the fact that most of our choices didn't matter at all, what's the point in making it into a game of the player isn't needed it could have been a short series. If they didn't plan on making our choices matter then maybe add more mini games to keep things interesting. I really bonded with the characters but honesty i was a bit disappointed by the game and i feel a bit frustrated. I wish it was a bit faster in pace ,maybe then I could have the patience to finish it and not exhausted before even reaching the middle....T-T

Not trying to be a contrarian, but I feel all these fantastical, multiverse elements dragged the game down quite a bit. It could've worked just fine as purely drama to be unraveled and solved by the player's choices, but it got hard locked in these repeated playthroughs, due to the multiverse thing.
