Although this video is well intended, Janet Sobel didn’t invent drip painting either. Hans Hofmann did. He was making drip paintings even earlier. See for example his painting “Spring” - 1940, and “The Wind” 1942. Both paintings use the drip painting technique (by my research, for the first time in Art history), preceding both Pollock and Sobel. But this is also little known. The lineage of the drip painting technique seems to go Hofmann - Sobel - Pollock. It is very unfortunate however that the drunkard (Pollock) gets all the praise, fame, and glory, unlike the previous two.

Lovely video and discussion! Thank you for doing this recovery of a woman who did this kind of work before the men. (I'm her great granddaughter and still have the couch in the photo.)

Why don't we openly talk about the self-promotional skills? History is full of unknown people who did amazing things, but someone else took the credit. As Warhol once said "It doesn't matter what you are, it's important what people think that you are.

What? You don't think it's got anything to do with the fact she does not posses a penis?

Don't you think, Freud is a bit outdated for the 21st century?
