www.democracynow.org - As the country marks Presidents' Day, we turn to an aspect of U.S. history that is often missed: the complicity of American presidents with slavery. "More than one in four U.S. presidents were involved in human trafficking and slavery. These presidents bought, sold and bred enslaved people for profit. Of the 12 presidents who were enslavers, more than half kept people in bondage at the White House," writes historian Clarence Lusane in his most recent article, "Missing From Presidents' Day: The People They Enslaved."

Why didn't he mention Jefferson's mistress Sally Hemmings that had a secret room that lead to his bedroom.
@denisshillingford6604

Sally was not his mistress. Sally was a bed-warmer for Thomas Jefferson and his wife when she was a little girl of about 9 years old. This is when Thomas Jefferson the pedophile begin the sexually abused Sally. Sally was a slave Sally was not his mistress. Sally was being held hostage just like all the other slaves on the plantation. When Thomas Jefferson's wife died he made her into his play toy and carried her all over the country and in Europe. He was asked by many European men where could they get them a beautiful slave woman like. Sally was a slave a beautiful slave that Thomas Jefferson used as an image on his arm

Just like the secret room that was found in the white house were presidents and congressmen used to have special relations with black servsnts. Just like in the Caribbean archer one island where the Europeans fought against each other to own it. While doing hat he slaves had o adjust o different languages . yet everyone of the European men had sexual relationships with black slaves such gods against they ideology but they did it. From the French,Spanish, British,Portuguese, Dutch, even the jews, and nights of mslta. They all married they European wives UT still had sexual relationships and birthed many children. There by being the first dead beat dads.

His last name didn't belong to him "Washington" derives from "Washitaw"(from Washitaw Moors)the US president was not the first president either(which he admitted)the 8th I believe George turned against king Charles after the Washitaw moors freed him(and others)so the biggest lie is the dark skinned Washitaw moor with the red turban 👳 are the people who freed him and others("the British are coming")theres also proof that George wrote to the sultan of the Washitaw/Washington moors in the house of congress taking an oath to serve him and the moors which of course started wars from breaking the "Peace and Friendship" treaty now the so called blacks are still being abused from freeing them till this very day yall never speak this only civil rights/slavery what are yall hiding from the people?

Your black elected officials in the Democrat party in Washington DC I'm not about reparations for black people because the majority of white Democrats and Republicans are against reparations. The last black congressman that was for reparations was John Conyers he had been bringing up the issue ever since 1969. Joe Biden and other white Democrats like him have been very clear they are against reparation for black people. Barack Obama was against reparations for black people and he was clear on it that's why he never brought the issue up. He would have never been president if he believed in reparations for black. The issue of reparations have to be brought up in the United Nations the whole world has to be behind us because both political parties are not behind reparations for blacks

Michael I agree. I recommend to anyone interested in history to read, "How White Folks Got So Rich." This booklet explores the government policies, corporate schemes, and devious actions that are at the very foundation of white wealth. If history is to help us to understand change and how the society we live in came to be, it should be taught to include inexscapable facts. The past causes the present, and so the future. To anyone with any racist remarks regarding the video, I choose not to dignify with a response. Ignorance is a glue that binds people. The like-minded find one another and cling together using "safety in numbers" as a shield against any outside influence.

I have my doubts, the native looks for kind nature markers where the order givers do not posses kindness traits. It simply is not in them. So we the ruled still are overwhelmed while we look for traits of kindness we are grabbed! Have we learnt through the outworking of billions of generational descendants ‘no’ because we are still beaten into submission as we gaze into the eyes of our rulers for some sign for a flicker of recognition that we are brothers! they bring the stick down upon our backs and we again will fall to our knees! We have not learned anything! That in the eyes of our jailers there is nothing but brutality that they see nothing of themselves in us. What then is this difference? Soul! The eyes are the window of the soul and it is not in those superior eyes!

Really? What are you going to do about it? So you know history? Black history is fun. Did you know that the first legal slave owner in America was a black man? Yep it is true. Anthony Johnson a black man had the contracts of indentured servants. And when they worked off their contract they were supposed to be free (just like Johnson had been). But Johnson being the conscious black man that he was decided he wanted to enslave John Castor for life. So he went to court to get permanent ownership. At the time there were no legal slaves in the British colonies according to common law. Thanks to that conscious black man Anthony Johnson a new precedent was set.

More fun black history. The person that owned the most slaves in South Carolina was a BLACK man named William Ellison. Not only did he own slaves (a large number of slaves) but all his sons owned slaves as well. Not only that but this black man offered labor from his numerous slaves to the Confederate army and Ellison and his sons donated money, and bought Confederate bonds to help the Confederate cause. So don't believe it when you are told just white people engaged in slavery. Truth be told less than 4 percent of all white Americans of the time owned slaves.

I wondered about that at the time. As I’ve read his books and listened to people who worked in his administration it’s become clear that he’s a very careful person who realized that change has to come slowly and incrementally. He was hated by many just for being black. He was accused of being a terrorist and a Muslim (as if that’s a dirty word). It was a very tight rope he walked to be able to serve all the people and reach and be accepted by as many as possible. He knew it would probably not enough for some black people and too much for many white people. The proof that he was right is the backlash that happened since he left office.

If we for a second stop trying to mitigate the horrors of slavery and stop trying to apologize for the the enslaver we can see just how monstrous these people were! Put yourself in the shoes of an enslaved person and just try to imagine it from their perspective, unapologetically! This was worst than any thing you could imagine, to have your life totally dictated by sick individuals who have to justify their greed, their avarice, by convincing you and the world that you're not human; the brutality that such a lie requires. If you need help imagine being a child born into slavery or better still imagine being transported back in time and waking up in it. It was absolutely wrong and those who participated in it are not deservant of such fervent efforts at redemption. It is what it is. Let them be wrong and condemned for it.

America is demonized for slavery by itself. Every race has been a victim of slavery throughout history but it was Americans who put a stop to it and unlike popular opinions slaves weren't treated as bad as the stories say and the civil war wasn't about slavery. Lincolns reply to Greely tells the real truth. And anyone with a brain could figure that one out because not too many slave owners fought on either side. So that would mean almost everyone in the south fought to keep the rich plantation owners their workforce

@@carhac66 Good question on Mary Todd Lincoln. Her parents owned slaves, but Mary Todd Lincoln never owned slaves. Oh and as someone else mentioned about Grant. He inherited a slave, but sent him free, even though he was poor at the time!

lINCOLN. said," If I free the slaves to save the country, I'll do that. If I keep the slaves in boundage to save the country, I'll do that! And for political reason he issued the "Emancipation Proclamation" BUT only south of the Mason Dixon Line! He had no control of that proclamation because he had no enforcement ability in that area! The slaves North of that were not freed! It made no difference to Lincoln if the slaves were free or not! Slavery had no bearing on the war. In fact the North was building railroads to the Pacific and had one hand behind them to fight the war with !! Why F... did the the South ever think they were going to WIN?
