This documentary chronicles the history of St Lucia from 50 million years ago to 1913. This is the most comprehensive and thoroughly researched video production and it's absolutely riveting.

I appreciate this documentary but this is saying that all the natives died. Dale can you speak to the elders at Canaries who are of native descendants. And the people of Darban Saltibus. As I said I appreciate this wonderful history of some of us in St. Lucia but for the rest of us....it robs us of our identity. This history is the version of slave owners....I think it is time we move from that.

I was transfixed watching this well-researched documentary, as I am half St Lucian & half English, my father's family hails from Dennery I have been there twice, coming from the UK I found the abject poverty juxtaposed against the gated communities extremely disturbing in an old-school Christian country, this is a story of a bloody hell on earth but with a happy ending of freedom & liberty, triumph over adversity, the Caribbeans must be some of the most tested, robust & stoic people on Earth, what troubles me however is how so many St Lucian buildings are built on narrow stilts on such a hilly terrain with this history of repeated earthquakes & eruptions, I often wonder what goes through the architects & construction worker's minds when planning these precarious structures, I have stayed at Mont Fortune, my Uncle owns a 'bourgeois' gated property there, and my cousin lives in in Tapion Estate, it is an idyllic location if you are well-heeled, god help you if not, the corruption & nepotism there is blatant, sa ka fet garcon

My own mom who is %100 St. Lucian had no idea that we came to the island as slaves and still finds it very difficult to understand because it was never taught to her in school or by anyone for that fact. My grandmother rejects it altogether, I don't think she even likes Africans because of her backward religious beliefs. White Jesus can do no wrong so if it ment being forced to worship a white man in order to be saved then that's what must be done in her mind. Shouts out to the original inhabitants of Iguana Island. They helped us a great deal when we would run away into the forest. I'm a mix of both African and Carib and very fuckin proud of it. It's stands as defiance to the colonial powers.

Have you considered your mother and grandmother know their history more than anyone else? Most people didn't consider themselves slaves, until Roots was released. Even the so called slaves weren't from Africa, they were more than likely European. Dependent on your surname; French, Spanish or English will determine who your descendants are. If your surname is Spanish, then you were probably the first European inhabitant, the French were second and the Brits last.

I’m of African descent and disappointed with some of the descriptions in his doc. Europeans did not discover Saint Lucia it was already discovered by the native people. He was just repeated European very if history but so many are agreeing with everything he said because of the lack of knowledge.
@alexsimon90832 ай бұрын
@@ijumaainjabulo5983actually it’s not incorrect to say discovered. Being inhabited does not directly mean already discovered. Discovery inherently means providing knowledge to the masses. At this point in time, Europe was the so called “masses” therefore not incorrect to say discovered. For example, animals have been present in their respective habitats in which they “inhabit”. No one would have any knowledge of these animals without “discovery”. Discovery simply put is the dissemination of knowledge not previously known by the Masses. This is cringy, and people who know better see through this crap. Indigenous people did not just die out; many were forced into slavery, some even fled into the mountains etc. So many Saint Lucians, to this day, have indigenous heritage. Also the total disregard for our African ancestors who were dragged like animals to the Caribbean. And the glamourization of Indian indentureship is disgusting. I remember learning about the runaway slaves joining Amerindian communities and joining forces for the greater good- even starting families between the tribes was one of the signs of those settlements. For example, if one features are very identical to the characters in the documentary, including texture of hair, in my opinion, one may be a direct descendant of Caribs.( like I’ve seen in St.Vincent) On the other hand, if the texture of ones hair is coily or have more African looking features, that would be a sign of African and Amerindian inter-mating which results is of course black. One people!
