I recently bought this 2 bedroom stone cottage in an abandoned medieval village, it took 2 years to go through but we got there in the end. Unfortunately the renovation budget was severely depleted by rising material costs and rental costs but it should be nice when it's done. Like and subscribe for more videos of me ripping out the dated nastiness and probably a lot of my hair!

I remember this decorating as being very posh style in the 70’s and 80’s. I see a few “top quality” items from the past that deserve some nice sentiment. I hope the previous owner doesn’t hear the way you describe it.

@@johnburnett5624he would’ve been frightened of the way my parents had to “fix up” the old house we lived in on a working farm. 😂 I remember those days with great fondness of how my parents did the absolute best with what they had. I’m super proud I’m able to do the same thing after learning from them. I’m in a little better of a place in life yet I still know how to do the best I can with what I have. No complaints. 🥰

Indeed!! So much potential in this property and lots of character can be salvaged. In the US he may be surprised at the amount of people who would buy or take off his hands what he deems gaudy or aged… I myself LOVE the teal bathroom items!! 😍 I would be working those in my plans somewhere…

My thoughts entirely . This property and its secluded location are beautiful . Its a classic 1975-80 renovation not bad at all and would have been very nice in the day. I would love to take this project on . Perhaps the ghosts of the previous owners got him.

I was going to watch this channel to see the transformation. However the constant disparagement of previous works was quite unnecessary. You would not have purchased it at the price you did if it was top quality and up to date. So much nasty was totally unnecessary.

The camera work will improve with practice and better equipment as you can afford in the future. What is off-putting is the constant denigrating of previous owners. Did you not do your homework before buying? It is what it is, now on with the work. Hoping to follow your journey. Looks like a wonderful project.

Shame you disparaged & sneered at almost every inch of that house. The judgemental commentary was so unnecessary - at sometime in the past those handmade kitchen cupboards may have been the only solution for a family on a budget or the bathroom suit was an affordable option. Clearly it’s a big renovation project & you have plans for it; it would have made much better content if you spoke about the massive potential each room & building offers.
@gunlindblad6816

Yes! That is what I was thinking. If things are old it doesn’t mean it is bad and whatever you do in that house will be dated faster than you realize. I suggest that you sit down and go thru whatever is there to see if you can somewhere else. For example in the ”washroom”, the sink can be cleaned and put ontop of a new cabinet. I wood take out all the wardrobes and put new one in, the kichen is awful, think about ventilation when you rebuild the thing that you need is check out how it worked before, heating and airmovement. Do not use sprayfoam for insulation what ever you do..

Lovely cottage and garden! Your disdain for the handywork of the previous owner; not so lovely. You sound arrogant. Please stop with the running around (too fast) and heavy breathing (too loud). I love the windows and the views. I actually like the green bathroom, you should consider keeping it and just retiling it. You never mentioned which country you are in UK? Thanks for your comments and I hope you do come back in the future. I'm sorry that I came across as arrogant, I'm more frustrated at how the wrong approach was used in the previous renovation and it's going to cost a lot more time and money to put right. Whilst the decor, fixtures and fittings may look dated and old, it was obviously someone’s pride and joy at some point. Perhaps age caught up with the previous owner and they couldn’t maintain it or update it. There’s probably a ton of wood materials there that could be reused or upcycled. Quite unusual these days to have barely any neighbouring properties at all! Definitely has massive potential though!

I’d love an update. The trees I think were used as wind breaks. The wall looks like artex which probably means a replaster. The fireplace would have been historical. The stone column is the original fire place. The beam looks original. The clues of the house (trees, rad size and curtains on doors) = cold and traditionally draughty = character cottage. A nice find. I hope you’ve done an awesome job with it. My guessing is your not from the countryside but a town or city.

Before you start knocking the crap out of the building, I'd find out it's history from Land Registry, Land Maps + Town Council etc.. Local knowledge won't accurately go back far. Very thick + wonky wall were made by the eye, before spirit levels. . Looks to me like it had a few owners in the past, trying their hands at altering the original building. There are light coloured chamfered lime / sand stone blocks to the left of the ' blocked up fireplace ' which look to have come out of a church. The brick work,+ pointing , which is blocking a possible fireplace, is made by a different hand,. from the stonework to the right + rest of the room.. Fireplaces were open on the stone, with little recesses in the walls for whatever , not windows. . The wall behind has very interesting trace marks if that's what they are. Unfortunately someone along the way, stained the oak beams which may, or may not be original, or load bearing , the French let the beams age naturally. ( Power sander ). Usually oak, occasionally chestnut. Plenty of clues! The stairway looks quirky and old to me. I totally agree with you on the gloomy cypress trees, they should never have been allowed out of California.🪓. Anyway, you have a little gem there + in a beautiful location. The very best of luck and just enjoy the whole journey!

It needs completely ripping out and stripped right back to its original bones, it could be amazing and the location is glorious, away from the crazies. Do me and us a favor before you rip out anything, think about taking them out and selling on ebay, or donating to a charity shop. I for one loved those kitchen cabinets and would have painted them white or a light color. Just because you might think something is horrendous doesn't mean others do (i think is what another commenter was trying to say (rather rudely). Someone also might want the green bathroom. White is usually preferable, but some people may be on a budget and FREE is a great price, there's some that know how to restore stuff like that. Please just take your time taking out things and give them to charity if you don't want to fool with them. ALSO FOR WARNINGS SAKE STAY IN THE HOUSE ON A WINDY RAINY DAY. I say this, because those big conifers that you want removed, may be protecting that house from having it's roof ripped off. I lived in a house surrounded by trees like that, but when April rolled around and the wind picked up, i realized that they protected my house (and yard) from blowing stuff around. Camp out in the house before you start renovations. See how the sunlight moves through the windows and around the property. It'll help you in the end of where to or not to put things.

It has lovely windows. And I think that one pillar in the living room looks like part of a chimney breast. You have your work cut out for you. But it’s not as bad as some though,I’ve seen on vlogs.

Thank you for your comments and sorry for my fast movements, I will buy a tripod and microphone soon so my future videos will be better quality. Unfortunately a lot of the windows are rotten and have peeling leadwork inside the pane so will need to be replaced at some point. We viewed hundreds of houses over 4 years before winning the bid on this one, some of them were a lot worse but were more "honest". This one looked good on first glance but dig deeper and there are some shady repairs that have had a detrimental effect to the fabric of the building. We'll get there eventually!

I know you said you are new at youtubing, but if you can try to avoid swinging the camera around fast, it will make your viewers less nauseous. Looks like an awesome project.

Interesting, when you do your work try and keep your camera still it will improve your videos, apart from that good work.😊

Please move your camera much slower. I would keep a wood burner. All the trees you cut up would keep you warm.

I would like to watch your vlog but you are moving the camera so fast it's making me feel sick and being so fast we can't actually see what your talking about, l don't usually complain, sorry.
