I can't believe how good the interior still looks. A plane built in 1968, flown for 27 years until 1995, and sitting outside untouched for 24 years after being parked, and the inside still looks good.

Hopefully it comes back to it's former glory , I have worked on this specific aircraft , as a mechanic from the day it arrived as OY-STE, brand new In Sterling Airways colours, back in the 60's, the Caravelle was the first a/c type I was licenced on, (you never forget that) it's one of the most elegant a/c's ever made, and was beautiful to work on.

My father took me on a business trip from Chicago to Minneapolis and we flew a Caravelle on UAL in the early 60s. To this day, the smoothest and quietist airplane I have ever flown on. More remarkable, my father had polio and lost the use of his legs and as you can see steps were required to access the plane. He had to be carried up the steps. Nothing stopped him. A profile in courage.

Governments should set an international aviation rule specifying what the minimum legroom, seat width, and aisle width should be, putting health and safety above everything else. And if that means airliners have 1/3rd fewer seats, and economy class tickets triple in price, so be it.

Protector H i bet as soon as u got to altitude it was time to come back down but must of been an amazing experience for a young boy. I never got to fly until I was 17 when I joined the UK 🇬🇧 Army n I had no idea what to expect but I tried to play it cool 😎, not sure if it worked lol. I’ve always been an aviation but the strange thing is that I was terrified of flying until I got to the age of around 40 n something just clicked n now I’m ok but still a bit nervous. I always got on the planes n just stayed quiet but inside I was actually terrified, more terrified than what was waiting for us when we went to various war zones. I think it was a control issue. Not being able to do anything if something went wrong, basically stuck in a metal cigar tube waiting to hit the ground 🙈. But like I said I’ve gotten over most of that now.

This caravel was bought by the Brazilian company VARIG, directly from the factory in 1959. It was the first commercial airplane of the Brazilian aviation, VARIG, acquired for international flights, even if the CARAVELLE were not designed to that, but were adapted. Although the Boeing 707-441 ordered did not arrive, the Caravelle were then used on smaller roads in the vast Brazil and South America, which I identified as it was later sold and one of its buyers, the dictator Bokasa. I live in Porto Alegre, in the south of Brazil, where was the seat of the requirement of Varig. I saw the story of this plane in the still existing museum of the company. I do not think I'm screwed. He follows his story when he arrives in Brazil. On August 31, 1959, the first Caravelle I commanded by Varig, for which the registration of the PP-VJC was reserved for the RAB, took off for the first time in Toulouse, France. In the weeks that followed, the four selected commanders, the most experienced of the company, attended intensive training in Toulouse. The PP-VJC was officially accepted by Varig on 22 September 1959 and took a shuttle flight to Orly airport in Paris to comply with customs and legal procedures to leave France to Brazil. The next day, September 23rd, the long flight began, with the four Varig pilots, Captain Guinard, a South Aviation instructor, three flight engineers, a navigator and a radio operator. Scheduled stops for refueling were Casablanca in Morocco and Dakar in Senegal before crossing the Atlantic. The night in Dakar was canceled due to lack of hotel for the crew. From there, the plane flew a little over six hours, landing in Recife / PE in the late afternoon. culturaaeronautica.blogspot.com/2017/07/os-caravelles-da-varig-primeiro-jato.html

@@perbertelsen2860, in 1963 Boeing came out with the same tail stairs on the tri-jet 727. I used to fly on 727 mail-cargo many times during the month on schedule and was responsible for mail documentation and critical mail. We did not have internet then, not even in a dream, so letters and else had to "travel". I was the one to open the huge cargo door on the side of the fuselage, receive the cargo (pallets), sign doc's, etc. The jump seat behind the captain was my seat. We used to make those flights in the wee hours and with four people in the cockpit and the rest of that tube with cargo to the brim it was as fun as hell, literally. The best nights were when we had to fly thru bad (tropical-Brasil) weather with the windshield covered with Saint Elmo's fire while lightning and thunderbolts would illuminate our way thru the clouds. I was surprised to see it look so nice inside after 24 years being stationary. When I was a kid, I was wanted to be a pilot. I can remember being on them when's they had propellers & were noisy. At 67, I've become more nervous about flying, but I still love planes & enjoy watching them take off & land.

Impressed by her condition after so many years of not being used. Would have loved to see all those instruments come to life again. Beautiful lines and elegant design (love the fins on the wings) - looks so .... aerodynamic (compared to quite a few of today’s mastodons) 😊.

The most beautiful jetliner! To go inside one of these airplanes is a real treat. The Fire Department at the airport in Columbus, Ohio, were very kind to let me inside their (ex-United and Airborne Express) example. Even though the passenger cabin was stripped out (unlike the Toulouse piece), being inside the plane left me breathless. The Caravelle was a true pioneer; even though it was quickly obsolete, the beautiful design has endured.

Indeed, from a time when passenger comfort mattered. Your ticket price was the same no matter where you sat, and it included a checked bag, meals, drinks and snacks even in Economy. It wasn't today's mentality of 'charge for everything.'

I loved seeing these aircraft when they were in service TOTAL LUXURY for the 1960’s! These helped inspire me and I signed up for the Royal Air Force and trained to be an aircraft engineer! Excellent explore im so pleased that at least ONE has been preserved! In their time they were way ahead of other airliners with their rear onboard stairs that saved airports having to to drag up steps for passengers. The Caravelle brought its own! 👍🏻

wow ... the interior views really gave me some flashbacks .. my very first flight was with a caravelle in the early 80s, i was 4 or 5 years old. FRA-LYS-TLS and back .. almost last row, right window seat. the engine was just next to me, and i found it sounded surprisingly similar to our vacuum cleaner...... i also remember our easter holidays in tunisia 1989, the hotel had a very large garden/park and behind some trees there was an abandoned tunis air caravelle ... oO ... it served as a playground for kids, you could actually climb inside etc.... ;)

Thank you for a very nice tour of the Sud Caravelle. A pretty plane, looks to be in pretty good shape too. Never got to see one of these fly; I have heard the Caravelle was one of the noisiest airliners around. The elevator placement reminds me of a Sud Vautour or a Super Mystere. And the window shape-best combination of see through-ability and keeping the windows intact throughout God knows how many pressurization cycles throughout the life of the plane. You see this distinctive and sexy looking airliner (yes planes can be sexy) and you see today's frumpy, harsh riding Airbuses. The caravelle was built in a different time; I can imagine the machine work and construction quality are light years ahead of today's airliners. What a shame- I'd love to fly in a Caravelle!
