@giantfisher5 жыл бұрын
HAH! I did NOT notice it in Fury Road but a week or two ago, I watched MM2 for the ZILLIONTH time and noticed the head butt flash for the very first time! But given the nature of this video, it's not at all surprising that the exalted Mr. Miller would carry that tiny detail through.

One small think I've noticed on my latest rewatch of road warrior is that the rendezvous for the refinery refugees and pappagallo, powder river is very similar to where the war boys found max in fury road, powder lakes.
@MadMaxBible Жыл бұрын
That's true! Also both those locations are not real, but seem to be rather a general term for 'dried up'. Originally George Miller wanted to shoot Mad Max 2 on a salt lake perhaps indicating the rafinery was built on a dried out lake/ocean. So the idea of dried out bodies of water was there since MM2, it was obviously is in MM3 and in Fury Road there are 'powder lakes' and the entire Plains of Silence are the receded ocean that Max was planning to drive out into.

i’ve just discovered your channel. truly amazing stuff might i say. my dad used to show my brother and i the mad max films when we were little, and when i was in my freshman year of high school when Fury Road came out, i’ve been hooked on the mythology ever since. i’ve had ideas of writing and filming Mad Max continuations and even prequels, which will obviously never become a thing, but i’m really into it. i would love to see more videos from this channel. you certainly put the work in to do proper research and bring up conversations no one else talks about in regard to these films. keep up the great work. fans like me really appreciate this kinda stuff.

Thank you! Your comment is really appreciated. I do have a lot of topics that I would like to cover. Starting from what Max's 'madness' really is (believe me, there is an evolution of his madness) to how Fury Road was hijacked by sociopolitical movements in 2015. There is a ton of things to say about those movies.

5:53 this version of max's car vaguely reminds me of the Gigahorse too. mostly because of all the pipes and shit coming out in the front of the car. probably just a coincidence since the exposed pipes in the Gigahorse are meant to resemble Immortan's mask and the skull symbol, but everything is possible when it comes to mastermind George Miller. i think its cool how they sort of reprised the idea of old May, the old woman with leg braces who threatens Toecutter with a shotgun coming back in Fury Road as Miss Giddy, an old lady with leg braces threatening Immortan Joe with a shotgun. Or even the scene where Toecutter says to Jessie ‘what if you were to lose the face?’ and then Immortan Joe, well, loses his face.

Want to know where Miller got the idea of Captain Walker from and the language the children speak? Check out Riddley Walker by Russel Holban. I have the book. It was written in 1980 before Thunderdome. Its a post apocalyptic future where everyone has gone back to speaking in a medieval kind of way, making up new words from our words. The whole book is written in this new language. And if you read the book and look at the timeline of when Thunderdome was written and made Miller clearly lifted it for the second half of the film.
@MadMaxBible Жыл бұрын
That is absolutely correct! I made a whole video about what inspired George Miller to make Mad Max movies. And the part about Riddley Walker was... let's just say they weren't very candid about where they got that idea from.
@dustyv8sound3 жыл бұрын
I really enjoy the details you find and the untold back stories, my biggest questions about the Mad Max world mostly come from "Beyond Thunderdome', like what happened to the the Waiting Ones after they moved to Sydney, what happened to the ocean and where did it go- as seen in the final shots of Beyond Thunderdome you see a shot from under the Sydney Harbor Bridge and from the angle of that shot you would be under water implying there is no longer water in the harbor. Perhaps one of the most strangest things I would love to know the back story to is where did Max come across and befriend a trained monkey

Yeah, Mad Max series does feel like Miller is refining the same movie over and over sometimes and in a way he is. For example, that camera shot when War Rig gets crashed is the exact shot Miller planned for the big crash in The Road Warrior (the camera being placed in front), only then it couldn't have been done since it was a safety issue so he did it again in Fury Road.

@rich_edwards792 жыл бұрын
In the early scripts for MM2, Humongous was supposed to be the Goose (which would have made sense since we are told in the Preamble that lots of MFP cops went rogue and joined the road gangs) but apparently the idea was dropped because the first movie didn't do well in the US and so the resurrection of the Goose would have confused audiences there.

One idea from Fury Road that had to be scrapped was warriors flying around above the bog with heli-packs - like a jet pack but with overhead propellers. I'm curious to see if this idea will be repurposed for "Furiosa".
@MadMaxBible4 жыл бұрын
I don't think we will. There were a few ideas for a flying tribe in Fury Road, Harpies, Furies, Roto Raiders, but I can't remember who was it, Miller or Lathouris who said that they removed that idea from the movie because then that tribe could just fly over to the Citadel and do an aerial attack and take it over.

What I want to see in the next one is Miller change up the dynamic of the movies. Mad max, is actually ALOT like terminator and blade runner sequels, in that it tells a new story but the broad strokes remain the same. In terminator, it begins in some place out doors populated by trucks trash and urban environments, it is a chase movie, in the middle the characters stay somewhere, have have a journey changing moment, in terminator one, its kyle and sarah getting it on, in t2 special edition, its the terminator having his AI imitations turned off, then both movies end with a fight in some kind of industrial complex, in t1 its a machine factory, in t2, its a smelting factory, in t2 a fallout shelter, in t salvation, finally, which is why I consider it the last canon terminator movie, it ends in Skynet where they build the terminators. Mad max does the same thing, broad strokes repeating the same things, so in MM4, id like to see it be influenced by the dynamic of MM1. With max alone, but seemingly finding peace, only to have it taken away from him but never lose his interceptor, and use it through out the movie, to go after the villains, just in a bigger way, and actually do things in various settings, instead of the movie being purley a chase movie. 2 or 3 chase scenes imo would be good, but the next MM should have no kids, and no women after the first act. and they changed his son to a daughter because of fucking politics, men cant have sons anymore in Hollywood.
@Lanz19647 жыл бұрын
hey there, big fan I have an interesting question for you... What I think makes fury road so good, is that the world and the story are so thought-trough and beautifully created. Miller literally had 40 years to think of how everything would work So my question is if 'The Waistland" can be as good as fury road? Do you think it can be, because the world is established and the story can be written in 2 years? Or are you frightened (like me a bit) that they will have to rush it and dont have time to create everything so detailed? I'd love an answer, mabye even a video? :P
@MadMaxBible7 жыл бұрын
The script for The Wasteland was written around the same time they wrote Fury Road and refined a little after Fury Road came out. From my understanding The Wasteland will be a very different movie, very bleak. I'm afraid that it will be a rehashing of the story that we already saw in the Mad Max#1 and #2 comic books, because The Wasteland takes place about a year before Fury Road. They won't have to rush the script writing process because it's all done and it's just sitting on a shelf, unless Miller wants to refine it a little bit more, so I wouldn't worry that the movie is going to be bad. It's definitely going to be different though.

Now we can only hope that Warner bros stop being dicks and pay Miller the money they owe him. The deal was for a $7 million bonus that they promised him for bringing the film under budget for $150 million which they did. Now Warner went and welched on the deal. Miller has every right to sue them. You don't go back on your word. It's about the principle.
