This is interesting. I like the fact that it would not interfere with my pedal drive and would fit both of my kayaks that have vastly different hull designs. I was looking at a Bixby but this is lower in price plus would work better in the shallow marshes here in Texas.
@jimwhite15572 жыл бұрын
This would be a great idea for fishing in the marsh. If it can expand wide enough, I can see putting one on my small jon boat for fishing in the marsh. I can’t pole my boat as well as I once did. Having this would be fantastic. I’ll have to check out their website.

When I receive mine I'll stop back and leave a short review or a link to somewhere that I left a review at. I ordered on a few months back. Now that production has begun I should be receiving it soon I hope. At least I'm not far from there head quarters, so hopefully that might speed things ups

I'm interested in the available thrust. I'm having trouble finding that on the website. My preference would be to install a system like this that allows my pedal drive to coexist. I really want to get to the fishing hole faster and use the pedal drive to fish the area.

I use it with my pedal drive. It does go faster if you pedal as well. Here is a link to my test - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqK6gH5mh6hqb7c

Excellent!! The only thing is what happens if it hit something?? it doesn't go backward like a normal trolling motor can and then gets back into position...
@PacMotor2 жыл бұрын
Not exactly but by design if extreme force is applied to the frame it will swing up due to the pivot points on the bottom strap, allowing for some give and saving the motors.

I just checked. It works for “boats” up to 40” wide. Oh well, it is way to narrow for my jon boat. But I like the idea a lot.
@2reelyakrz4812 жыл бұрын
That may just be the widest it will expand. Our kayak is probably too wide in the center for that. But toward either end, the boat may narrow out enjoy to be practical.
@haciendadad2 жыл бұрын
If your boat comes to a point in the front, then you can put it on in the area where it narrows, instead of the widest part of your boat
@jimwhite15572 жыл бұрын
If I had a boat with a pointed bow, the recommendation would work. But this is a job boat with a blunt end. Oh well. Thanks for the idea.
@floydaltonmiller Жыл бұрын
Do you use the PAC motor and would you recommend it?
@KayakhacksFishing Жыл бұрын
I do not use trolling motors very often. The Pacmotor is an innovative design whose primary attributes are zero radius turn and light weight. The negative is the under the hull strap for mounting. I think that reduces the speed and creates drag. I have other videos that show how I was able to hack a top only mount. The motor is not that powerful. I averaged around 3.0 mph on my heavy Jackson Cossa FD. So, it all comes down to what you need. Since I rarely use a motor, I would not spend the money for this one or the other expensive options like Bixby.
@timjones66372 жыл бұрын
I still my Torqeedo and it is build tougher.
@haciendadad2 жыл бұрын
Before I would buy it I would like to see it on a Hobie PA 14 loaded with gear. The PA is about 145lbs, and those motors look like they can move the lightest kayaks only, the demo videos show empty kayaks. I could have a bait bucket and an anchor and a battery which can bring the weight to about 200lbs without my own body weight of 220lbs.
@KayakhacksFishing2 жыл бұрын
That would be a good test!

Is there a drive mode to set the throttle at a given speed? For example, troll or cruise.
@PacMotor2 жыл бұрын
Yes, thanks for asking. We have a built-in cruise control button. Just press the button down at any given speed and it will lock in till unpressed.
@walte992 жыл бұрын
Power, i.e. Lbs. of thrust? Speed? Pretty important to many, I would think. Also, does the joystick come back to center when released or can it be set to a speed and then hold that speed hands free until changed by the boater? Thanks!
@PacMotor2 жыл бұрын
Hey Walt, PacMotor puts out 23lbs of thrust and can get up to ~4 - 5 miles per hour depending on hull type. Also you are correct the joystick will move back to the center when released thus slowing the motors to 0 thrusts. This makes it easy for usability but we also have a cruise control feature allowing the motor to be placed at any speed when enabled.

Send a note to them and ask about the thrust. Good question. I should have asked. I am not planning on getting one because I rarely use my motor as it is today.
@2reelyakrz4812 жыл бұрын
@@KayakhacksFishing I don't believe I would get one either as our primary trolling motor (Watersnake ASP 24lb) is mostly used for quick reverse on our non-easily-reversible Hobie pedal kayak... and we already have it. If I were looking for a new one, this is definitely intriguing.
@PacMotor2 жыл бұрын
Hey Stan, PacMotor has 23.8lbs of thrust! Pretty much was the watersnake has but with dual motors, better turning, and a wireless joystick!
@2reelyakrz4812 жыл бұрын
@@PacMotor Would love to see if you get spot lock. With dual motors it might be possible to also have some type of bearing lock where the 2 motors could keep the boat not only at a fixed location, but pointed in a fixed direction. May need a compass as part of the control system. Might also be challenging in heavy wind and/or current. One issue I have with the spot lock systems I've seen is you can't really control the direction the boat is pointing - it tends to want to point upstream which sometimes creates very awkward casting angles. I shouldn't complain as spot lock is already a marvel of engineering, but that would be an awesome feature - especially if it can be set in waypoints 😋

Nice concept perfect for extremely light kayaks. Thrust is not going to be a big contribution due to the small scale of the item. It’s basically like 2 bixpys with a remote control. Very nice though for a budget kayak

@@Pwnzistor a legit trolling motor for the moment is a motor guide runs about 700$. Without anchor. With anchor your looking at $1500 roughly. Unless you have let’s say extra funds you could to NKS for or Torqeedo. I’m not sure how many you have tried out already . I’ve seen my fair share of a lot of setups over the years. To me this setup if it’s under $1k. It a good start for people just getting into the scene. But if your a competitive person in tournaments and all then yeah get ready to fork out the big bucks. But for what this is I think it’s great for someone who just wants to keep it as simple as possible. But the way I didn’t catch how much this setup is at all.

If a person adds a motor to their craft, doesn't it require registration from the state? You are going from a human powered craft, to a motorized craft and generally speaking, requires registration.
@KayakhacksFishing2 жыл бұрын
It does here in North Carolina.

It would require registration in Texas as well (even electric propulsion).
