I am an artist living and working in France. I learned the techniques of the Atelier of the Nineteenth century and now I try to share some of my knowledge with the rest of the world, because I think that beauty still has an important role to play in artistic creation. Hi Florent, what was the term you used when describing the blending with the chromatic colour - was it canvasating? I can't find that term anywhere.

What he said, was "canvas mixing".
@FlorentFargesarts
@FlorentFargesarts 10 ай бұрын
I said "canvas mixing", it's basically changing a color that's already wet by bringing a new color and pressing to form a new blend directly on the canvas, rather than on the palette.

where did you purchase your glass palette?

visit your local white goods recycling centre, ask them for the glass shelves from a fridge, pull off the plastic strips & free glass pallets

It's actually a glass shelf from an Ikea cabinet. I always managed to recycled glass and never had to buy a glass sheet but your hardware should cut them to size.

What color checker would you recommend? 🙏🌈✨💐

I don't really use any color checking tool except my general knowledge of color theory. I try to not check colors individually but compare them and navigate from one to the other with fluidity, don't know if it makes sense...

My first painting when I started back was a copy of a tarot card. It ws 3 feet by 4 feet. 1st mistake. I thought the colors too drab ….low chroma so I chose different colors… I thought using iridescent paint would add to the magical art ( a phoenix helping an Angel come up and spread wings full and white): I ruined the art piece with my ignorant choice of colors. It easily hurts my brain to look at it… I thought I’d be big about it and correct things only to realize it’s re do and wen5 back down low on the priorities list….how hard and discouraging it can be to be a beginner…. Only the help from someone who has gone thru will keep you going unless you have zero discouragement. Subject matter not simple enough. Too large..was wet on wet. Extra thick paint with no medium or paint filler( big waste!) weird contrived iridescence…drying to half dead metallic.. does anyone feel like they are THE “makes all mistakes first” type student? I remember I was even gonna put glitter in some places! Really what I had in my head (except colors) was fine….sort over estimated my abilities by quite a bit! I understand why some artists burn their art. Think of the $ if Jimmy Page had saved his student art? Just because he became so famous…. And that’s discouraging too! Ive on two hands artists who have a great style and results that are really great…i mean artists alive today and on social media…rambling….the phoenix is temporarily facing the wall in back of closet with some thrift store paintings i bought for the mounted canvas to gesso and paint over.. I’ll re do the phoenix. At least it has a ton of texture for the feathers!

Maybe sometimes it’s better not to think that much while painting… This complicated color theory stuff somehow takes all the joy from me.

Florence Farges has shared a wealth of information that might seem daunting seen as a whole but honestly give it another try, it could open the door to so much more enjoyment and improve your work dramatically.

Personally, I would practice the concepts used here in studies.. The more studies you do, the better the theory comes naturally to your everyday painting practice. Hence, the techniques are part of your toolkit, and you can still enjoy your creativity
