Many, many years ago, I stopped to let Ray cross the road in Wimbledon High St. I shouted a “Hello Ray” out of the window, he smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I’m not a football fan, but it was nice to know that someone of his stature actually took the time to be nice and polite, and friendly. Many stars don’t. Thanks Ray. RIP 🙏🏼

Great tribute you made at the end. What a footballer he was. I remember seeing him play at Harrogate for Man U. Wet miserable evening, more sand than grass on the pitch and he didn’t stop running. Ray always came across as a really decent chap, humble, ego free; so likeable. He was also very passionate and knowledgeable about the game. I particularly enjoyed his punditry during Channel 4's coverage of Italian football and his appreciation of the great technical players. In his own parlance he was, 'my word, terrific, tremendous, smashing... an exceptional man'.

Until I watched your video I had no idea Ray Wilkins died, and Glen Hoddle had a heart attack. Life is fleeting, but when we face up to reality of living, accepting the painful losses, losing love ones and close friends, throughout the years, and that fateful moment, when we face our own mortality, looking death in the eye, it’s like a bitter pill to swallow, but something we all have to accept, no matter how much we try running away from the inevitable. Happiness and sadness go hand in hand, like sunrise and sunset, in a constant state of flux. RIP Ray Wilkins.

I saw him play at the end of his career for QPR against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. He was way past his best by then but he still got a huge round of applause from the Chelsea fans despite having left them 15 years earlier. Such a talented player who deserved more silverware in England than he got. I also didn't realise he was an MBE either. Sad also to see him alongside Gianluca Vialli in that picture, another exciting, intelligent player who left us way too early.
