I watched Ray play for Rangers and for Hibernian a few times during the season he played in Edinburgh. I also saw him play in the 1985 Rous Cup match for England at Hampden against Scotland, which included some other quality English players: Robson and Hoddle. Not only a gifted player, a total gentleman and humanitarian. Respectful Paul 👍 RIP Ray 🙏🇬🇧

Great tribute you made at the end. What a footballer he was. I remember seeing him play at Harrogate for Man U. Wet miserable evening, more sand than grass on the pitch and he didn’t stop running. He was coming back from injury and while out lost Man U and England captaincy to Bryan Robson. Saw him again at Ibrox and the display of skill and passing was tremendous. Seems to have been a great bloke too.

Interesting, I did watch "Butch" when he was at Chelsea. Also liked your point about his diplomacy which is warranted, although ironically he gained the distinction of being the first England player ever to be sent off in a World Cup. Was sad to hear when he died too early, and I think in the same week as that other great sportsman Eric Bristow. Would be keen to see a Famous Graves on Peter Osgood who I believe managed die while attending his uncle's funeral.
