Is it just me or is Bockman really stepping up their game and their sounds are so good

TCS WOWSound is the best sounding decoder to my ears anyway. Anything with that decoder in it will make it very appealing. But yes Bachmann's execution on this model is nice also.

Bachmann did an impressive job on this J3A Hudson type model, this engine is well detailed and has high quality sound features being equipped with a TCS wow sound decoder. I find this Hudson model attractive and steam locomotive models like this engine here sometimes make me wish that I modeled the steam era.

Bachmann seems like they are really trying to step their game up in their DCC SOUND STEAM LOCOS. I am really considering purchasing this one.

Same here, last locomotive I got from them was the streamline K4, and it was crap. But this one looks very good.

I just got one of those as a Christmas gift from my parents. It’s a beautiful engine, and it fits in well with my current set of engines. It’s also very powerful, being able to pull about 18 Rivarossi passenger coaches with lead weights. I even gave it a ceremonial nickname. I, somewhat ironically, named it “Alfred E Perlman” after the president of the New York Central Railroad and later Penn Central.

For anyone curious, the second smokestack is for the booster engine in the rear truck.

The TCS WOWSOUND Decoder in the NYC 4-6-4 Hudson has nearly, if not as many whistles/horns as The ESU LokSound v.5 Decoder. I should know because my parents got me that locomotive as a surprise birthday present from TrainWorld. Truly an impressive model.

Mine should be coming in soon. The Wowsound won’t last that long in it as I’ll be installing Tsunami 2 hoping to use the BH-2 decoder that is a straight drop in board replacement.

James, as a Subscriber to your channel wanted to say thanks for another great review... beautiful locomotive - but a word of caution ⚠️ here... not sure of anyone else's experience, but this model has an Achilles Heel, a long, thin, plastic drawbar that is prone to breaking off in shipping. The two I received from Trainworld NY arrived broken, the first one, AND THE REPLACEMENT. Huge inconvenience, hopefully the 3rd try will be successful. I understand from an electrical standpoint why Bachmann did a plastic drawbar vs a metal one on the tender, but it is a weak point to be aware of... happy railroading... sort of 😕 -George

One thing I can't understand is how model railroad companies think the boiler jacketing that covers the side sheets of the firebox were ever graphited. The firebox jacketing is just boiler jacketing and should be black.

Still not as deatailed as a BLI model, or Athearn. However, this thing is still cool. It'll look even better if it had builder plates and more seperate detail. It still looks really good for what it is. A+

I got mine but it makes a weird sounds as it run once in a while. According to Bachmann the WOW sound decoders have SD card that trialed to defrag extra data which causes the noise. The guy I talked to said his does it as well as the European models with the wow sound. He said to be on the lookout for a recall notice when they figure out a fox. Other than that a very nice model.

Not sure that's a $400 loco detail wise. I moved from HO to O3r in 1995, still have all my HO stuff. But I picked up a few BLI locos in the $100-150 range that are much better detailed with full sound. O3r does not seem so expensive now. Thanks

The little stack in front of the big one is to vent exhaust steam or not condensed steam from the coffin type feed water heater. The stack looking thing over the boiler is anyone's gueas
@Toledo1940
@Toledo1940 7 ай бұрын
The smaller stack is the exhaust for the Booster, attached to the trailing truck. These engines were built with Elesco feed water heaters; they were eventually replaced by Worthington feed water heaters. What you describe as a "stack looking thing" is a bundle over the pops (safety valves).
