It’s really an amazing synth with amazingly bad presets. It’s also amazingly easy to program. Everyone that hates it has never actually played it.

@@smvproducer True I end up doing a lot of keytracking mods on every patch. It seems like every new analog synth has a really harsh high end. Newer Prophets, Polybrute, etc I have to use mods to round it out so the highs are more even with the low octaves. That’s not a problem with any of the vintage analog polys I have or had. Trident, Juno 60, JP4, OB8, Polymoog, sk50d, ax80, bitone, etc etc don’t have that issue. They all sound very nice, even, and playable across the entire keybed. But yeah, I’m used to it and just think it’s an issue with new analog and I find my way around it.
@smvproducer5 ай бұрын
@@VincentPresley i agree with you 50-60%. I mean i have a Prophet 10 rev 4 and an OBX8, and even if they are not even close to the Moog One for sound design possibilities, they have an huge sweet spot. It is pretty impossible to make bad sounds. For the Polybrute, i cannot say anything, since i don't own one and i never tried it 😀

The Moog One can sound very good, but more often it sounds quite meh. Its sweet spots are narrow and hard to pinpoint. One must use "hacks" like saturating the Moog filter with the SEM filter gain stage to get the ladder circuit to sound like it should. It requires an exorbitant amount of tweaking and time to get the most out of it, but still often sounds overly bulbous while lacking definition. The components they used in the design (op amps for ex.) were cheap and it suffers for it sonically. A competitive flagship synth like Baloran - The River on the other hand is ALL sweet spot and sounds much fatter, more complex, and has a wider dynamic range with 1/3 the oscillators. @$10k+ MSRP for the 16 voice version, the One was not worth the money and had some serious tuning issues which led to to the requirement that it be completely neutered via the oscillator compensation algorithm. It is still a capable synth with a massive feature set, but I think was a let down for many people (including myself) for these reasons. They tried to pack too much in there without focusing on sound quality first. This is just my opinion, others are of course entitled to feel differently. I did enjoy your patch and appreciate the content!

Hello. Thanks for the comment. I partially agree with you, but anyway I respect your opinion and you wrote it in a good and polite way ( not like someone who is trowing s**t just for the pleasure to do it). Anyway I saw that you have an Andromeda. I bought that synth when it was released and after a couple of years I sold it. I am blaming myself on a side, but on the other hand I don't know if I would buy it again due to the lack of spare part. It is very sad that such a beautiful machine, was totally abandoned. By the way I think, as it happened with the Andromeda, time will say what will be the Moog One. Cheers ;)
@SacSynths_Jack_Z9 ай бұрын
@sermax70 Yes the Andromeda, another controversial flagship... I have one in red & one in blue with some spare filter and osc chips. So, if you ever get another and need one of those custom ICs, I may have one for you. It is a great synth that was released at a time when most producers used only romplers & preset synths. Consequently, although it was immensely deep, it was an overly ambitious move for Alesis in the early 2000s. Also, it did NOT sound like any of the late 70's or 80's analog VCO flagship polysynths people had been used to hearing. It was much more tight, polished, glossy, and modern sounding with dance presets straight out of an Access Virus. I was not a fan when I first played through the factory patches, but after spending time with it - I found it to be an immense, wonderful, and unique sounding synthesizer. I personally prefer the sound of the A6 to the Moog One, although they have very different characters. Honestly, I was rooting for Moog with the One: I own a Memorymoog which shared several of its design/production "issues" upon release. However, the Memorymoog has proper gain staging (it is even overdriven to an extent), you get that classic Moog saturation, with a HUGE sweetspot, & a very unique punchy sound that is different from anything of its era. Regardless, I enjoy hearing your opinion and your shared passion in analog synthesis All the best to you! P.S. How long do you think InMusic will supprt the Moog One now that Moog, as we knew it - is dead?
@smvproducer9 ай бұрын
@@SacSynths_Jack_Z Yes, a very controversial flagship, and I totally agree with you that the factory presets were not good at all and it was not sounding like an 70-80s poly synth. And Alesis after went in bankrupt if I remember well and was acquired by Numark. Anyway I think I will not buy it. When I look at my small studio room, I realize that I own many synths and maybe it is time to stop buying 😀. I also own a Prophet 10 rev 4 and the OBX8 that sound very analog🤩. About the Moog One, I don't know what it will happen. I just hope, but I think that is just a dream, that they at least will release a new firmware that will fix some bugs ( that are very stupid and that are not expected on such a machine, though they not prevent me to design sounds ) and I am happy that I have not tuning issues on the Moog One ( that some people are experiencing ). By the way, I really appreciate your comments, that come from a person that has passion in synths and knows what he is talking about. I wish you all the best too :) P.S. About the Memorymoog, I never had the chance to try one but ......wow🥰

Most on point description of the M1 that I've read. I totally agree. The M1 doesn't have a bad sound by any means. But it doesn't lean forward from the outputs and send harmonic chills up your spine the way i feel it should have. It feels orchestral and well behaved. Sonically versatile, but tonally rounded. I appreciate mine. And will likely hold onto it for the duties it excels at. But I agree. Narrow sweet spot.

@@electricjuiz I also have and had enough of them. Anyway if you remember the Andromeda A6 that was so blamed, now it start to be understood by people( I bought it when it was released- I think it was 2001) and after 2 years I sold it. And I am blaming myself. The only think that stops me to buy a second hand A6, is that there are no ASICS chips available anymore. So I decided not to risk to have a synth that it could not be fixed if a problem will occur. Anyway time will say what it will be. In the meantime I am happy of my M1. It has not a big sweet spot like the Prophet 5-10 or the OBX8. But it can sound great if wisely programmed. The bad about the M1 is that Moog is not supporting it and there are still some bugs. And again it reminds me the sad story of the Andromeda

How loud is the fan? I have a computer in the room with quiet fans would it be higher or? I like to have the synth on so I can just jump on and play but with a fan that could be an issue?
@smvproducer8 ай бұрын
The fan can be set on two speeds ( or 3 I don’t remember well) or can be set on auto mode. It is noisy. Especially when it will start to increase the speed. Maybe my Moog one is also in a not good place. There is a curtain near its back. So I think there is not a good air changing. Anyway, when I play it, I don’t hear the fan. In a quiet room, you will hear it. And louder than the computer

Sounds great!! Do you have any keyboard stand recommendations for the Moog One? I’m trying to set up a multiple tier set up (Jaspers maybe) with the Moog on the bottom due to it’s sheer size and weight, but the depth of it seems like it would create issues accessing all the knobs/display. Any recommendations please?
@smvproducer9 ай бұрын
Thank you😀. I own two Jaspers with 3 levels each. One is with wheels and one is without. It think that is the best choice if you own heavy and big synths. Anyway you need just to play a bit with the height of the level that is over the Moog one and place there a synth that is not so deep in size. I placed the Prophet 08 that is about 30 cm deep. And if you want to be mad like me, you can place under the synth that is over the Moog One, a rechargeable magnetic light that you can use if the synth on the second level, it is causing too much shadow on the Moog One 😀
