I do not think you have to write exactly four paragraphs. Pearson does not say it, nor does any controlled experiment suggests so. I got 4 90 in my PTE test and I just wrote 3 without using any template.

Lucky you! Yes you have to write 4 paragraphs. It is a academic essay writing. Academic essay has 4 paragraph format for IELTS and PTE test. However, writing 3 paragraphs deducted your score, and at the same time you smashed WFD so well that you scored 90 in the writing section.
