$3k overhead? Idk if i believe that…the insurance is $1000, van note is like $500, maintenance is about $500, taxes is about $1000, thats $3k right there n we didnt even mention how much he spends in gas

Being on the road is not for untrained vehicle operators. Sightseeing is cool but I view it as distracting unless I plan an itinerary to follow. Depending on whether you're running OTR or city/local, it is demanding with constant changes and idiots driving as if they own the road. You are a target, you are vulnerable to wackos, thieves, cons, and livestock to dodge enroute to your destinations. Insulation in the cargo area is best but I won't say why, I have done without it. Colorado doesnt have lake effect snow, but the upper Midwest does, guess what, OTR expediting takes you there frequently. You can't drive in Louisiana with fog blinding nights or lightening storms with winds blowing sideways and the tornadoes at night that you cant see. All I see are city diddies staying on the apps close to home, missing out on potetial $7000 weeks because that van maintenance ain't no joke if you don't wrench on your vehicle. Dealer shops will put you on vacation as long as they take to service you van, while Indies will steal parts(swap out) good for bad and claim they found new problems, you cant pay for this experience I'm giving you.

As an IC myself (Rose Courier Services, LLC. - NJ/NY) that's where I'm at for pay/work life balance ($1,250 to $3,000). My sweet spot for hours is 5:00 AM to about 2:00 PM although I'm on call 24/7. If you can make it work I'd stay right where you are. Can the $ be better? Yup, but your stress level would increase considerably.
