Super helpful. Took me far too long to learn about this stuff when I was younger (ran just me and my dad, neither of us having ever set up a kart before. Used to spend 6 hours at the local track changing one thing at a time till we learnt)

Yeah learning the basics on kart setup is tricky and you can go down a rabbit hole very very quickly 😂

Thanks for this one Sam, super helpful! One question related to track rods, if stub axles/column have adjustable akerman what are the effects of moving inboard or outboard?
@Wolemid8 ай бұрын
Moving the Trackrod to the inside hole on the stub will make the inside front wheel turn faster so less input needed. It will lift the rear inside wheel easier too. The outer hole will slow down the steering so you will lose initial steering

Im a heavy driver and ive been having issues on anticlockwise tracks with the kart snapping the very suddenly on left hand corners im 3 years into my karting and ive not solved this issue any advice

Hi. First thing I would do is check your rear axle settings. By that I mean is your axle centred properly. You can check this by removing the rear hubs. Measure from the bearing hanger to the end of the axle. Then repeat on the other side and make sure they are equal

@Wolemid cheers for your reply this issue has been with 3 different chassis ive used at this track ive used an hh axle as ive an otk kart and it makes no difference right hand corners no problem but left handed kart seams unstable

Hi Sam, what handling changes do shorter or longer track rods make?
@Wolemid5 ай бұрын
If you talking about them being evenly fitted on the lasers then no difference. However if you want to change how the steering feels, have a look at adjusting the Ackerman on the steering column

@@Wolemid my current stub axels have two hole options, I'm currently on the wider one. I'm going to go on the inside hole. Should this give me a sharper steering?

@@tomtom3195. I miss understood your first question. 😂 So Ackerman basically a fundamentally will lighten or heavy up your steering. Out and out performance there is nothing to be gained there. It’s more of a driver aid. I wouldn’t recommend doing it on the stub axle but on the steering column if you fancy doing it. If you move it towards the column it will lighten the feel of the steering (imagine a super hot grippy day) you may want to move it towards the steering column
