Did I miss it? You did install another 2x4 after the tapcons right? Otherwise where is the insulation being stapled into. Just wanna make sure
@detroitdiy Жыл бұрын
I did install another 2x4 over the tapcons. Makes a better landing for insulation and trim.

This was a very helpful video. Is it recommended to use pressure treated lumber for anything that touches the concrete slab? Any reason you chose to put the two vertical studs all the way to the floor instead of doing a bottom plate first?
@detroitdiy2 жыл бұрын
It is best to use pressure treated wood when in contact with cement. No real reason, the studs can set on bottom plate. One side of the wall was not well attached to the cement and I felt that would be the best way to strengthen it.

@@detroitdiy Don't end cuts absorb more moisture?
@detroitdiy2 жыл бұрын
End cuts do absorb more moisture. The wall we closed the door in on was an interior opening from house to garage and moisture level is low.

what is a good estimate of the cost to do this from beginning to end?
@detroitdiy2 жыл бұрын
If you have all the tools for spreading the drywall compound about 150.00 all in. That will also get you the sand paper needed.

Quick question what's in the other side of the door ? From the looks of it u have Drywall , followed by R-13 by a black looking sheet ? What if I just wanted the other side to have drywall too do I add another drywall sheet after ?
@detroitdiy2 жыл бұрын
The garage is on the other side of the door. It is unheated so we used black plastic to block the opening temporarily to keep cold out. Once insulation was installed the plastic was removed in the garage and drywall installed. The drywall in the garage was unfinished. That is something hat would not fly here in Michigan. However Illinois building code must be different.

The center stud was placed directly in the center of the opening and secured to the 2x4 added at the top and bottom of the door opening with construction screws.

Hi, so I am removing an unwanted door. The walls are plasters it's an old two-family home. I have a good understanding of what to do. But I just want to know can I use Chirac to close that door?? Or do I have to use plasterboard??
@detroitdiy2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I have no idea what Chirac is. You can patch it with drywall you just need to shim the wall to the proper thickness so the drywall is flush to existing wall. Thanks for watching.

I think you mean sheetrock... and if I understand correctly, sheetrock and plasterboard are the same thing.

Would this be the same procedure if you have concrete walls at each of the door. Planning to remove a door and cover it.
@detroitdiy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is not uncommon to cover unwanted openings in Concrete with wood. I take it the finished wall is drywall. You will most likely find the width to be different than a 2x4 wall, a 2x8 can be ripped down to fit nicely. Thanks for watching.

Good video. I took out a door that goes from the master bath to the master bedroom and both floors are wood. Can I just screw the base plate down to the floor and since there are two studs where the old door jam that I took out? Don't I have to put another stud in from the top of the old door opening to the plate since the old door and jam that I removed was a 30 inch door?
@detroitdiy2 жыл бұрын
Yes you need to add a stud in the center. The studs along the outside edges, A.k.A the jack and king studs should be left in place unless you are certain it is not a load bearing wall. Thanks for watching.
@mberge12 жыл бұрын
@@detroitdiy Okay thanks. The plate would go on to the wood floor. I am doing the demo work on my master bath and after the new vanity rough in plumbing work is done by a plumber I may put up the new mold resistant sheet rock or hire a handyman to do it.
