@@firstnamett4656 the uk has a bad drug problem because drugs are illegal you moron. time for a new approach. trying to police and criminalise drugs has led to absolute devastation across the uk, clearly prohibition is not the answer, they have been illegal for 50+ years and there is more drugs, more drug users and more drug dealers now than ever before. coming down harder would only exacerbate the problem.

Welcome to austerity! This is what the Conservative party have given us. Cutting policing, especially specialists policing and all other services. I’ve never seen so much violent crime, homelessness and poverty. It’s so depressing 🤬
@sarahashun1180

Josh McBroom , You’re missing the point and judging by your ridiculous comment, I’m assuming you have very little knowledge on the subject. There’s always been a drug habit. I’m talking about the proliferation of drugs, guns and violent crime in this country. Youth services are nonexistent because of cuts. Special police units which specialise in violent crime and drugs has been disbanded. Moreover, so many police stations have been closed and this is a travesty. The police can’t cope! How do you think the weapons and drugs get into the country. Well guess what, because of austerity they’ve made huge cuts to the boarder force. I live in an fairly affluent area and I’ve seen deals go down in plain site in broad daylight. So logic would tell you that crime has been allowed to flourish because of austerity! I suggest you do some homework. I would recommend watching gangland on channel 5 or 4 and Hometown on the BBC iPlayer. There’s plenty of good documentaries out there. Also LBC is an excellent station for hearing people’s stories and expert opinions. Incidentally, the drug industry is thriving because of the middle class and the wealthy. It’s not just the poor that use drugs.

As one of the cops said, the only way to stop/lessen the county lines problem is to start legalising drugs. For anyone that disagrees, what is better: drugs being controlled by criminals and the black market (like they currently are), or to be regulated by the government like alcohol. This problem is going to continue getting worse and worse still similar steps are taken, there is no other way to make a huge change, it is supply and demand at the end of the day - money talks.

Ask yourself this... if Alcohol was illegal, would as many people buy it or start drinking in the first place? All of this sneaking around to have a drink? if Alcohol was a prohibited, do you think people would openly talk about having a drink? being so open, it has encouraged so many people to at least try it as young as kids. If Drugs became legal, the negative stigma behind it would slowly diminish. People would openly talk about injecting themselves with heroine in front of kids, why would they not be allowed to? like people talk about having a drink all the time in front of kids, its even everywhere on the telly. What I am saying is that, the UK will have a spike in drug users. If you think making drugs legal (allowed) wont encourage youngsters or anyone to try it then please think again. You can argue that there are already a lot of kids/adults out there doing drugs on a daily basis however being illegal and having to deal with the police is still enough for most to stay away and thats crucial, the last thing we want is a nation on drugs. Also, if these drugs (once legalized) are not easily accessible for hardcore users then expect them to return to drug dealers. Its not as simple as regulated vs non regulated, otherwise the answer would be easy.

@@thisisarmando8393 Regardless of how many people use what's for sale, the market will be fought over more and more aggressively. The fact that users will hide to get a hit also adds to the potential of exploitation and violence. Legalizing will change the entire environment, Amsterdam, Holland with the coffee shops, Portugal having a massive drop in class A users since decimalizing all drugs, Switzerland pretty much irradiating drug related homelessness, (although a much smaller country) they also realized gradually the users came in less and less, because where they picked up from, had doctors and health staff ready and waiting, compared to a British underpass or trap house. I wouldn't know how to go about doing it, and I cant imagine the Co op stocking coke or even weed tbh. Having a safe space to use or even try, clean substances, regulated. Taxed to offset the inevitable rise in drug related health problems and the promise of aid if needed with every sale, It will allow the police to tackle more organized crime, not just beheading one boss to watch 2 or 3 fight over the area. There are people that inject Infront of there kids already, there will always be wrongens, wrongens are always out weighed by reasonable people. Ultimately, I don't think they will be legal anytime soon, police can barely admit they arrest/investigate there own without it being broadcasted on BBC first, so imagine them admitting failure with regards to the war of drugs a 20/30 year campaign. The amount of people that would try these mind altering drugs once or twice for fun with friends, will far out weight the people who get addicted, it may alter perception and build more progressive thoughtful beings, of course that wont be a blanket affect and not for all substances. Psychedelics for example, think of all the good and bad times you had with friends while drunk, now imagine it when your horizon of reality was broadened, warped and stretched, your not aggressive, you still care for risk(compared to being drunk) and you had your mates beside you to carry that experience forever, who has ever fought on psychedelics? What crack addict has had the help they deserve as readily available as another hit? Drug policy needs reform for sure. Would you rather your kid trying drugs in a safe/comfortable space, maybe becoming addicted, maybe making a good memory? or your kid buying the drugs, that he has no guarantee of what's in them, off a gang that he may end up joining and sentencing himself to a perpetual motion of convictions and violence?

Imagine how much knife crime could be reduced that is drug and gang related. @@firstnamett4656 First of all I was only explaining what I thought his point was. As for my second point that was intended to be humorous. My argument on legalising drugs is this: I believe that legalising drugs, or relaxing the laws, would benefit our society more because of how deeply ingrained drug use is in our country. Making the laws harsher would work on career criminals but there are many innocent people who unfortunately get caught up in drugs for whatever reason, mostly 16-24 year olds. punishing these with harsh sentences would destroy families up and down the country. what about those who stay away from alcohol and only smoke cannabis, would it be right to enforce strict sentences on them? would it be right to enforce strict sentences on a father who works tirelessly to provide for his family who did a little bit of cocaine at a wedding? you would be very coldhearted to want to destroy even more lives just for the sake of one day hoping everyone is sober. do you really think that all the current drug addicts are just gonna magically quit drugs and that will be the end of it? if worst comes to worst and you do manage to rid the street of illegal drugs, those addicts will all just switch to legal alternative such as alcohol, subutex and diazepam none of which are safer than cannabis at all.

We need legal drugs. These things wouldn't happen if drugs were legal most illegal activities surrounding drugs would end, the government can put the money from profits into housing and other things for the problematic users ultimately would be better for everyone. The quality of drugs on the streets ATM are terrible if they were legal ppl wouldn't be getting made rich from rubbish products and ppls health wouldn't be jeopardised as much u would just have to sign a waver saying if u OD its your own fault and government can't be held accountable. All drugs derived from plants should be legal all chemical or synthetic drugs should remain illegal
