For a small channel your videos are very high in quality and your insight is interesting. For me it's like a second "Game Maker's Toolkit".

I really love the educational side of this channel that informs the viewer of decisions in game development and reasons behind choices through the gaming medium. As long as you keep producing videos of that subject and of the quality you have shown, I'll be watching!

Hey, I saw your first video, the one on Half Life 2 randomly on reddit and checked it out on a whim. I love Half Life 2 and the notion of thinking about the unique things games can do as a medium. That video, like all your others was just so insightful and concise and relevant without being pretentious or full of pseudo-intellectual nonsense. I've been a huge fan since and I pray you keep making videos for as long as possible. That's all I wanted to say :)

wow, i wish i could have been here a year ago, i had you reccomended by Elder Geek and i have to say you're providing me with professional level game design information and teaching. I don't know how you come to understand this much, or why you're not WAY bigger than you should be, but i CAN tell you that you've taught me quite a lot, and i'm an animator and a beginner director that loves computer games and this stuff is right up my ally. i will progress through all the videos until i reach the current ones and hopefully will have more helpful things to say aside from just compliments.

I really like your series 'The First Fifteen Minutes', would love to see some more of those videos, could maybe do some 'The Last Fifteen Minutes' as well, that would be pretty cool. I enjoy your one off essays on games too though so whatever you've got planned for the future, I'm sure I'll enjoy it!

+thinreaper I've got a few games on deck for First Fifteen Minutes so that will be making a return in the next month or two! Last Fifteen Minutes is something I've played around with doing but haven't landed on a good first game for it.

Yeah it's definitely harder to think of games with a really strong closing 15 mins compared to a strong opening. Couple that spring to mind straight away are Journey and The Last of Us.

Personally I'm a fan of your The First Fifteen Minutes series; it was why I initially subscribed. I would be really exited for more of that, or something else like it. I like the analysis of a small part of a game and how it ties into the overall structure, and this is especially true if the small part is a microcosm of the overall game.

+captainparadoxius Got good news then! I've got a couple games lined up for First Fifteen Minutes. You should see the first one within the next month and a half or so.

I haven't watched anything more recent than this video yet, but so far it's enjoyable. i was overjoyed to find something that did more of what 'Extra Credits' set out to do, namely talk about video games, not the industry. Personal preference would be that the videoes are as heavily researched as possible, (while still coming often). i think the better setup for a channel is that you make some well researched, nitty gritty details videoes, covered in theory and education, that you would feel proud to present as teaching material, and then you do some quick and easy commentary videoes that you don't have to script, and simply stream some play with interesting design and go over the 5 or so keywords you jotted down the day before. Becoming a "T-Shaped" channel will hopefully allow you to conquer both the nececary quantity and quality requirements to challenge both the MatthewMatosis...es, and the Extra Credits...es.

Hey, man! Congrats on your milestone. You videos are very informative as well as entertaining to watch. Suggestions? Your analysis of certain section of games like you "First Fifteen minutes series" is awesome, which you can extend to a bigger time limit, or a section within a game. You can also analysis the Narration aspect and Ludology aspects of games separately. (like your MGS V analysis) You can explore certain aspects of the game like environmental puzzles, choice and consequences etc. individually and how each games executes it. New topic? Well, the recent debate over the the staleness of Assassin's Creed series is quite hot. No one seems to be interested in the series despite the over positive reception of AC Syndicate.

Hey there [game array]! I've loved all the videos so far. Something I've been thinking about a lot recently is under-utilized mechanics. When a game does something revolutionary, but it strangely never gets copied by other games. For example, in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (blast from the past, I know), the repeating 3-day system worked brilliantly to tell that story, made the NPC's feel alive because they could have scripted movements, and the game felt large even though it took a fraction of the time to develop as Ocarina of Time. Why haven't we seen this mechanic repeated or copied in other games? I can't think of a single other game that uses a similar repeating timescale. Imagine a modern, gritty, cyberpunk mystery, stuck in an endless loop where you play the same 7 days over and over again. Admittedly, not the most practical idea for a video, but maybe there's something there. :) Keep up the good work!

Hey mate, missed this video last week, so I'll reply without expecting you to respond. Been here since the first video (pretty sure was a recommendation from Elder Geek) and I loved it. It's hard to find channels of this quality that celebrate the art and design of games. I would love to see more of the First Fifteen, but would also like a longer commentary-style video, where you go through a game talking about it. I don't know if it's possible or how hard it would be to make, but the video matthewmatosis made about Dark Souls is a good example of what I'm talking about. But whatever you do, keep up the quality and the videos coming. Cheers

+Pedro Franco Thanks for the support Pedro! I'd love to do something like what matthewmatosis did with Dark Souls and Demons Souls. I even kicked around the idea of doing a longer commentary-style video for Silent Hill 2. I honestly don't know if I'll ever get the time to do it though... Here's to hoping!

Here's to hoping! maybe if you start off doing 10-15min chunks of gameplay while you talk over it it can help. Even if you don't upload it, just to test it.

I think the more focused your content is the better. Right now, your videos are a good length, they're long enough for the point to get across, but the videos never start rambling. Everything seems to be written and edited before anyone does any voice recording, and that's REALLY important. The video editing is solid too. If you feel like you spend an awful long time on 5 minutes of content, don't think that extra quality goes under appreciated. You'll fill your channel much faster with let's plays and commentaries, but content like what you have been making is what's going to get you to stand out. I saw another user say that you shouldn't cover the same games as everyone else (Dark Souls, Half Life, The Witcher) but I disagree. I think there's so much to talk about in those games, your 'first 15 minutes' is a great way to focus what you want to talk about so you can discuss something other youtubers haven't. Focusing on the Family Matters quest in TW3 serves that same purpose. Good luck out there.

suggestions? well my suggestions would be: - look at the games which were not cowered by tens of thousands other channels already. dogpiling same topics as everyone doesn't bring anything new to the table. and there is no shortage of near perfect games, there is only very low education on topic of games (in general on the youtube) - more academia-like stuff, less leksplays

I love your videos, but I've very much hoping you won't be doing "Let's Play" videos. I've seen that happen to channels going from interesting short videos to let's plays. And there's a ton more people who want to see let's plays than there are people who want to hear about game design etc, so I get it, but it feels like youtube gets poorer because of it.
@gamearray
@gamearray 9 жыл бұрын
+Michel Mohr I have zero plans on doing Let's Plays right now. I guess that could change, but I don't find them particularly interesting to watch, and I doubt I'd find them particularly interesting to produce. I have played around with the idea of doing longer commentary style videos every now and then, but they'd be edited in some way...
