For those that have done or are considering the”Stillen”upgrade… you don’t need to cut on the scoop to prevent the rubbing. Just remove the top two shutter blades from the shutter housing, it takes less than 10 seconds to remove one of them. They can be removed from behind the grill, so you don’t need to remove the grill. The vehicle will function normally with NO adverse effects. This method serves to not only prevent rubbing, but to provide an opening into the Stillen scoop for constant fresh air… this prevents the engine from running at an abnormal elevated temperature that many people have reported. I’ve had mine installed for about a year and a half, and have put just under 40,000 miles(it’s a lot, but I drive across country regularly)on it. My best fuel economy with the Stillen scoop, a Volant cold air intake and a flapper valve/muffler delete coupled with a lead foot is 24.7mpg. This is the 5.3 liter 327, 8 speed xsmn with the Z71 package, 3” lift and 35” tires! I know it’s a long comment, but the Stillen is a really great product that I’ve felt a noticeable difference in throttle response(even before I put a programmer in it), and done right it does work. NO I don’t work for them, and I’m not endorsed by them lol!

While it is true the blades were touching (barely) the Stillen it's the two arms that pop out that close and open the blades that were rubbing against the Stillen and causing the chattering sound. As for removing the top two rows of blades ( I do not recommend that) The shutters are controlled by a thermostat so when the temperature reaches a predetermined temp the shutters will open to allow air to pass through the entire radiator and not just the top portion. so far I haven't had any cooling issues. I left the blades intact and just trimmed the Stillen. I did get a hold of Stillen and they said they revised the one for the 2019 Silverados so they should not and will not rub. Sounds like a good idea though, I might check into doing this.

Jeremy Several have used the stillen with the 3.0 Duramax and have removed the upper 2 blades like you indicated along with the bottom flap to increase intercooler efficiency.

I was thinking about this scoop, but never mind
@HowtowithPaulHenderson2 жыл бұрын
The scoop is pretty cool It does what it says it does. At stillen they did correct the issue of the top two shutters rubbing against the scoop. Even Chevrolet realized that having a scoop is better than the lattice style that they have on there now. On a few of the newer trucks and one style of 2019's they have a scoop style similar to the stillin scoop but it is smaller opening than the stillin the scoop.

You may want to inspect your shutters for any broken or missing ones.
@HowtowithPaulHenderson2 жыл бұрын
I did check and they were fine. The shutters are working perfectly. It was actually the bars that shootout and close and reopen the shutters that was rubbing on the stillen, the stillen did slightly move back and forth a little bit so It wasn't much pressure going against those bars. no issues works perfect now.....

I just installed the Stillen scoop as well and noticed that the temp gauge went up to 210 after driving on the highway for 30 minutes. I take it the scoop is causing this as well and needs to be shaved as you recommended?
@HowtowithPaulHenderson3 жыл бұрын
210° is a normal operating temp.. if you have the active areo shutters you may need to shave off enough of the Stillen scoop and the two supports that are built into the Stillen so the shutters but mainly the two metal bars letter attach to the shutters motor that rotate towards the Stillen when the shutters close and re-open so those metal bars will not rub against it and the shutters will not touch the stillen.. it's those metal bars that are attached to the shutters motor that you need make room for. take your cell phone and use the flashlight you should be able to see while the shutters are open if they're touching the two support bars on the stillen scoop, if they are then you definitely need to modify it.
@restlessspiritsparanormal3 жыл бұрын
@@HowtowithPaulHenderson thanks. I will check it out later. I’m a just surprised that Stillen isn’t aware of this by now and has dealt with the issue. Did u try contacting Stillen about it?
@HowtowithPaulHenderson3 жыл бұрын
@@restlessspiritsparanormal they became aware of it not that long ago so on there website I think they say that the stealing cannot be used with the trucks that have the active Aero shutters... But I can say for sure that if you do the modification you won't have any problems. What you can do first locate the metal bars that are attached to the shutters motor and trim just that area with a circular file should make a nice little space for those bars to fit and without rubbing. You may not have to trim anything else

@HowtowithPaulHenderson2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if that's a good idea. Although that part of the elbow does sit back and tucked up out of the way. You could easily trim the Sterling if you don't have a Dremel or cutting tool just go buy a flat metal file it will cut through it. Or just reinstall the stock intake grille.

Hi Greg thanks for the three thumbs up. That really did sound like a ball bearing bouncing in a plastic box didn't it. Really glad it wasn't my lifters. When I drop it off the dealership to have looked at two other times I told him the truck runs perfect and told him I could floor it up a hill next to a brick wall with the passenger side window down and I don't hear any pinging or dinging so if it was a lifters it would have made it sound doing that. But I was glad the mechanic found the root cause of the problem. And what was really nice they didn't charge me for any of those three visits. But then again I do buy a lot of parts from there. Lot of stuff I installed and had installed on my truck is from that dealership. The only reason I bought my truck there at that dealership was because they didn't try to strong army into buying it.

@HowtowithPaulHenderson3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a shutter's fault it was mine for installing the aftermarket stillen cold air intake scoop. I knew the blades were touching the scoop but the rubberized I didn't realize there was aluminum bars that were attached to motors that actually extended outward while they were closing and opening the shutters. But with the video watching the shutters in action is pretty cool I had no idea how they actually worked now and I know and luckily they didn't get damaged from rubbing against my aftermarket intake scoop.
