UPDATE! 3 MILE 1967 MUSTANG and 1968 Shelby GT500KR Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode 299
Every car has a story, and sometimes, we get lucky and hear from a viewer who knows something about a car we featured from The Brothers Collection on Muscle Car Of The Week. Recently, we were contacted by not just one, but two individuals who each owned a car we’ve featured that now lives in The Brothers Collection. Today, we’re revisiting these two cars - the 6800 mile 1968 Shelby GT500KR from episode 249 and the controversial 3.4 mile 1967 Mustang Fastback from episode 290 and sharing more information straight from a couple guys who owned them.

Very neat "rest of the story ", hard to imagine having such a car and avoiding the temptation to rack up more miles on it.

It’s the story that really counts. I’d rather have a car with a good story, than have a perfectly factory correct car. But that’s just me. 🏁

The worn shift knob on the 289 car makes some sense - before you start a manual trans car most folks grab the shifter and pop it from side to side to check its in neutral before turning the key. Any rings mean wear. Also, the looks to be a lot of, ahem, 'hand grease residue' on the concave top surface of the shift knob too...

A friend I grew up with his dad was a Ford collector and my friend got a restored 69 Cougar in 1988 for graduation gift, anyway his dad had a collection of Fords and one day he showed me a Mustang his dad kept in his shed which was full of trophies for his 55 Ford truck but under a mountain of sheets was a convertible Mustang, I don't remember if it was a 1969 or 1970 but he told me it had a big block Cobra Jet engine and the car itself had less then 100 miles on it but I never got a good look at the car my friend didn't pull the sheets off he just lifted it up high enough so I could see a tire and thats about it but I never forgot about that car and wonder if he still has it today.

On a 3 speed stick first gear would be bottom left. It's not the same on a 4 speed. If there are no tool marks near the knob then the whole stick may have been replaced.....look for tool marks under the boot.

If I remember correctly only 11 “68”. GT500KR’s came with the 10 spoke wheels, yet every one wheres them!

I had a '67 fastback w/ a 289 and 4-speed and that car was a blast!!! I upgraded the intake to an Edelbrock and a four barrel carb from the two barrel stock system and that li' honey would do 12/13 second quarters. Not sure what diff it had, but it would rev like no tomorrow, so I'm guessing a 3:90 or better. Sadly, the car got totaled by a sleepy semi driver and I'm lucky to be alive to talk about it. Sigh!!

It seems to me he would have found out about the wrong gear knob right away. He would have put it what he thought was first and about backed thru the shop wall. Also, the 4 speed lever has a small chrome T-handle under the knob that you pull up on when going into reverse.

Whoever is yapping about how the engine looks need only look at gensets for wells and other critical systems that only ran now and then for testing over many years. Same thing happens with them and they have little to no time on them.

3.5 miles? Bullshit. Anyone who ever worked at a car dealer will tell you that cars roll up more miles than that just from being moved around on the lot.
@darrellkidd5177
@darrellkidd5177 5 жыл бұрын
Remember that this was a special order car, ordered by the owner of the dealership specifically as one he planned to store away and not drive. Not likely he let anyone drive the car "around on the lot".
@MrSloika
@MrSloika 5 жыл бұрын
@@darrellkidd5177 So it rolled off the assembly line, on to the car carrier, to the dealer, and straight into storage, where it was untouched for 50 years? No one moved it even to sweep the floor under it? Just sat there. For 50 years. Bullshit. BTW, no one can even prove that's the color it was when it left the factory, only that it was a special order color.
@DoudD
@DoudD 5 жыл бұрын
I spent 30 years working at new cars dealerships. How many miles are added 'moving around the lot' depends on how big the lot is and how long the car is in inventory. A special order car does not typically get moved much at all before leaving the premises. A 'dealer stock' car, which might be in inventory for weeks or months, might be moved around quite a bit. I'd say 5-6 miles on the odometer is typical but the 3.4 miles on this Mustang is 100% plausible and not particularly unusual
