I missed the original video about helmet orientation, but I've been printing helmets right side up with no internal supports for quite a while. Printing upside down can be a good approach in some cases, but it always leaves the top of the helmet looking rough from the supports. The natural dome shape of the helmet generally means that it will come together fine without any internal support as long as you use enough top and bottom layers, and it takes a lot less time and filament.

Great vid What infill and shell count do you use for helmets for nozzle size? I use a .8 to cut print time. I found 2 shells to be abit flimsy with 10% infill. Thanks for the help
@agepbiz6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your methods. How much does the helmet weigh? How much PLA do you save by only using perimeter support?
@UncleJessy6 жыл бұрын
Will have to double check the weight. Hollow Support structure vs No center supports was like 6-8 hour difference, Regular center supports was like 10-12 hours saved. Pretty wild man.

@phiromseng56986 жыл бұрын
Going forward will you still use your interior support structure or start using Niko's method of just rim supports?
@UncleJessy6 жыл бұрын
Phirom Seng really all depends on the print. If it’s a full helmet like this I will probably do rim only. If it’s a faceshell/face mask I will probably use the support structure still. Awesome to have multiple ways to do things.

What about the gases and "micro" dust? your melting plastic and pushing it through a nozzle... aren't you affraid of slowly taking the plastic particles into your loung? (copyed this a bit that you actually read this)

Great job, friend. I see you use the zyltech filament brand. I would like to try them and I wonder if these filaments have a lot of brightness or are they more matte? I like the filament matte. I'm used to using esun pla +. What do you think about the zyltech filament? Thank you.
@michaelellis50246 жыл бұрын
Your helmet prints are phenomenal. I just started a Shoretrooper helmet and it's taking forever at a 0.16 mm layer height. Are you printing at 0.2 mm? I'd like to print faster at 0.2 mm but I'm concerned that the surface will be more difficult to clean up and get to a smooth finish.

Is there any chance to get your supports settings? I keep getting a really hard to remove supports in a way it hurts the print, or getting supports that are easier to remove, but making the supported structure distorted .. So I will really appreciate if you can share your supports setting :)

What printer did you use? I've been wanting to buy a printer that can fully print helmets in one go, and i'm so envious that you can do it! I'm currently rocking the Prusa I3 MK3, and i love it, but the volume just isn't enough.
