UPDATE Baby Gorilla In Fort Worth Zoo

Jameela, the first gorilla born by Cesarean section at the Fort Worth Zoo, is separated from the others by a mesh panel, but zookeepers are working with the gorillas to fully integrate her into the group. They are feeding Jameela next to surrogate mother Fredrika and training Freddy’s surrogate son Kayembe in calm behaviors.

In the videos from our Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, it seems like the Fort Worth Zoo keepers who worked with Jameela are still with her here (?), which is wonderful! Kudos to the Fort Worth Zoo for allowing them to stay! They know the little one so well, which will give her the best chance as she bonds with her new troop. The collaboration and support between these zoos and others is so inspiring - doing what it takes to help this sweet little gorilla to thrive.😊

So Freddie hasn’t worked out either. Poor Jameela. Sounds like they’re in talks with another zoo/facility. I hope things work out there ❤

Actually Freddie has been working out. If you watch videos from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, they show her holding Jameela like a mother would. The only problem is she now has a big adopted rambunctious brother that is trying to play with her, but she’s still too little.

Freddy and Jameela are doing great! Jameela has been nursing with Freddy which means less keeper involvement.

@@keithmuehsam8990 Kayembe will be fine. Lots of Gorilla moms take on the responsibility of more then one child. Some kids lose their mothers and go with another female that has a child as what happened at Dallas zoo. Some moms have twins and some moms are weaning while expecting the new child. Soon Kaye will have Kunda to play with and that will change his life.
