Today was hot anyway. The temperature was about the same as a summer day. It was better because it was not humid.　The gorillas hardly moved because of the heat and stayed in the shade.　
Since Genki's cavity treatment was successfully completed, I thought about what would happen to her pregnancy and delivery in the future.

Father MOMOTARO ♂(2000/7/3)　
He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.
He is struggling with unfamiliar child-rearing.
MOMOTARO's father is BIJU.
MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO
　　
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)　　　
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAKK.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.
We can't wait to see what kind of gorilla he'll become!

⁠@@lynngold1865she is NOT living in the troop. Yes, she was introduced into the troop once, as all were interested in her through the mesh. Freddie, the expected surrogate mom picked up Jameela within seconds when she found Jameela in the nest. Jameela was with Freddie, Kayembe, Mokolo, Kebi and Kunda for a few hours, but as is his character being a toddler boy, Kayembe was too rough, maybe a little jealous too because he is still with Freddie 98% of his day. They are training Kayembe now with positive reinforcement through the mesh to be more gentle with Jameela. After that is established, Jameela will go back with her new family.

I agree, Genki is wonderful! For the past 6 months, Genki has looked the healthiest I have seen her in years. Her fur is pretty, her eyes are bright and her energy level is up. Genki is a super gorilla mom, and seeing her holding and caring for a new baby would be a beautiful sight. But, I worry it will take a toll on her health. Should she become pregnant, I know Genki's keepers will monitor her health.

BEST VIDEO EVER! That was so much important information in one video. Thank you GL!! You explained to so many people that are pushing for things to happen that aren’t possible. You gave great explanations for why things might happen or NOT happen and why. I had no idea Momotaro and Gentaro were owned by other zoos. The explanation of a female gorillas age and life expectancy and ability for not only conception but how long she would need to live afterwards and why. This was just an incredible video. Mostly the older gorillas in these programs are owned by other zoos and a good bit are born and owned by the Netherlands Zoos. And I couldn't agree more about this video, it's very informative for those who don't have the educational training and experience of western lowland gorilla life expectancy, gestation/post-partum issues. Every pregnancy is a risk, but that risk grows with age.

Genki doesn't need to get pregnant because if she has a male, Genki needs not to have another baby because if it is a male,it will have to go through what Gentaro has gone through, the family of gorillas will not think he is not their real son and will be ignored and not be treated as other children.

Genki was first paired with Bijou at another zoo. There was a 2nd female (Momoko) introduced to Bijou but when Genki miscarried and lost his attention, she started losing wait and self mutilating. She had to be sent back to this zoo to be with her mom. Momotaro is actually Momoko and Bijou's son. I think if they brought a 2nd female to live with Genki and Momotaro, there is a big chance that Genki would try to hurt herself again, so I would be very surprised if they did this. Genki is my favourite gorilla in the world, I hope she gets pregnant, maybe a little girl this time. I hope she will be Momotaro's only wife while she is alive.

@@joannburnham3992 Is she actually pregnant right now? Since Momo's offspring have both been males, it's likely she will have another son. They need more female gorillas, but they can't control that. I imagine if Genki is able to support another pregnancy, her body will. She may really thrive having another baby, but it will likely take a toll on her own health. She has to eat so much in order to feed a baby for at least 3 years. I wonder how her dental health will be having to chew and digest so much to care for an infant.

I totally agree especially after watching Genki raise Kintaro. I always felt sorry for her because she seemed so tired all the time and I believe having Kintaro took a lot out of her. I hope to God she doesn't conceive again for her own sake. Sometimes I get the impression that zoo's use the females as baby machines. Get some younger female gorillas.....please?

Genki is my favourite gorilla in the world. She is so expressive, a great mom, who loves her boys very much and she shows it all the time. She is a good female for Momotaro. When he tries to mate with her and it lasts 2 seconds, she always looks back as if to say "that's it?". lol I also love the way she tosses sand at him sometimes when she isn't happy with him. lol

I would like to see Genki have one more baby. I do worry about her health but I also know that she is strong and such a great mom. My concern is if Momotaro will be able to do the deed. I know he can because they have the 2 boys. Maybe if the Zoo were able to give them some time alone when she is in Estrus again. I have so much love and respect for them. I want nothing but the best for each of them. I worry about Gentaro and his exiting the family. He’s very sensitive but he’s really changing everyday. There needs to be a bachelor group. Kyomasa will have to leave soon as well.

During Genkis cycle, could she be in her own area with a wonderful breakfast and Momotaro in an other with his favorite foods to get them in a good mood. Then put them together alone (Gentaro and Kintaro outside) for a couple of hours? It seems that Kintaros constant presence is obstructing things...

Genki would, but I don't think Momotaro would be as accepting. I adore baby Jameela. Like Kaius, Kiango. Saambili, etc. so many infant gorillas have lost their mothers, but their troop normally kicks in for the care. I wish Jameela such a good, healthy, content life.

I don't want to see Genki have another baby. She's getting up in age and the risk factors are high, especially being a few years from 40. She's lived a good life and is loved by so many. If something happens to Genki, many will be devastated. And I truly believe if you moved Momitaro to a new environment as picky as he is, he wouldn't make it long without a mate or stable unit. These are just my observations due to working with western lowland gorillas in the past, education and training.

Gentaro should be getting his own home and mate soon, just as he would in nature. They need to open the other area as a home for Gentaro and a mate. Genki would do fine with another pregnancy in my opinion. My health has not been great having gotten asthma at the age of 9. I had 4 babies. I’ve taken antibiotics and steroids etc during my pregnancies and all went well. Why don’t they drill and fill her cavities before they get so bad? They are so much like humans, I believe she will be fine. ❤
