My mom isn't a diabetic, but she has poor vascular flow in one leg and she gets these ulcer-type wounds on that leg If she isn't careful, but we've never let her get even remotely close to letting it fester bad (we'd have a shit fit if she got that sick!!)

Sepsis is blood poisoning. Basically, it's the bodies automatic reaction to an infection that goes untreated, if left long enough. My father is a diabetic, as well as has prostate cancer. He had multiple urinary tract infections[UTI], thus he developed sepsis. You are doing well keeping the skin ulcers clean and disinfected. Sepsis is simply an infection that has run wild, starting with a smaller infection that wasn't treated, and progressively becoming worse. Antibiotics are almost always the way to go. Antifungal, Antibiotics, ect. As long as your mom has proper bloodwork done from time to time, to make sure her white blood count is fine, she should be just fine. Happy new 2024!

I had a sepsis infection. They told me they needed to prep for a leg amputation. I was going into shock. Thankfully, my body reacted quickly to antibiotics. Saved my leg, and saved my life.

@@exspiravit6920 It can be really sudden. When it happened to me, I barely noticed it until I nearly passed out and had a high fever. Any infection can technically lead to sepsis.

Dutch praying for your health, Sepsis is no joke I’ve had it 4 times due to bladder infections that went out of control, the first time I was hospitalized I had a temperature of 104.9 and heart rate of 140 BPM. What antibiotic did they put you on? I had IV antibiotics, I actually argued with a friend the first time, my plan was to take Advil and go to sleep, the doctor said to me “young man you wouldn’t have woken up” that hit me like a ton of bricks. Wishing you and James both a happy and healthy New Year. Two quick things, the very first time I had sepsis I had purchased ticket to an independent wrestling show, when I was told I would miss it I got so upset I actually said to the doctors and nurses “I’m not missing that show, I’ll just rip out my IV” the replies I got from them were”go ahead but just know you’re probably going to bleed to death.” The second time I had Sepsis I was in the ambulance and hooked up to a heart monitor, I use humor as a defense mechanism in bad situations, the EMT told me my heart was beating at nearly 150 BPM, I thought it was a good idea to joke with him and say “wow I beat my precious record of 140 BPM” I’m sure if he could have slapped me and got away with it he would have. As a parting note my best friend who knows how bad Sepsis is said to me “Ryan if you get Sepsis for a 5th time and it doesn’t kill you I’m going to.”

Hey Dutch, I was so scared when I heard about your recent health issues. Approaching 60 myself, I know how all health problems (even if they seem somewhat minor) can escalate into something far more serious. I have said many prayers for you, and I was so happy to see James' latest video when he said that you were home and doing better! You, and your show, have become a regular part of my life and daily routine. Every morning I watch at least one or two of your Storytime with Dutch Mantell episodes(I have now seen them all). I thoroughly enjoy your stories, memories and off-the-cuff details that I never knew. You never cease to make me laugh, learn and love this sport of old-school wrestling. Septicemia is an insanely scary and dangerous infection. It usually requires 6 weeks or more of IV antibiotics through a picc line. Which isn’t a normal IV, it’s directly to the heart so the antibiotics are a direct hit so they’re more effective. I’ve been septic 5 times. Tell Dutch I’ve been praying for him because I know what he’s went through and how he’s feeling. And thank God for his daughter Amanda (my sisters name is Amanda and she’s my transportation to the hospital as well 😂

I went to the hospital for a fairly routine operation and ended up with sepsis. I was hospitalized for 83 days. It ain’t no joke. I’m glad he’s made it back home. Hope you’re doing well too.

Question for Dutch; what was the reaction backstage once kayfabe "died"? Were wrestlers relieved that they didn't have to live the gimmick as much or did they miss it?

From what I can tell it seems that most people who were in the wrestling industry back then lamented it, they feel disillusioned by what wrestling is now. A lot of them also couldn't predict that wrestling would remain popular without the existence of "marks", as they were a large part of the wrestling fanbase up until the 1980s. Of course wrestling is not (and never will be) as popular as it was in the territory days but it is certainly more popular than they would have predicted in a world of no kayfabe. (Just a fan so this is only conjecture and from what I've read/heard from wrestlers)

@@MBM1117727 I always knew it was scripted and everything but it was 10x more entertaining/fun to watch during the days of kayfabe. I’ve not watched wrestling since the episode of Raw that saw Vince announce he was the new owner of WCW. I knew at that point everything was going to go down hill. I moved into MMA/UFC at that point and haven’t watched wrestling since.
